International Literacy Day was held on 8 September 2013. September 8 was

proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first

celebrated in 1966. The day was celebrated to highlight the importance of literacy to

individuals, communities and societies.

Fresh Paper.

Union government of India is set to launch ISRO’s ambitious Mars Orbiter Mission in

November 2013.

Tokyo won the right to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Tokyo will host the

2020 summer Olympics after beating Istanbul in a head-to-head voting by the

International Olympic Committee. This will be the second time the city will be hosting

the Olympics. Next Olympics 2016 is going to be held at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The Lok Sabha passed the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment

Bill, 2013.

Ray Dolby - The Engineer who pioneered the noise reduction in audio recordings died.

He was the founder of Dolby Laboratories. Ray Dolby gave cinema viewing a

completely new experience with invention of some of the most pioneering works in high-

end sound reproduction and noise reduction. He held more than 50 US patents, and has

written papers on videotape recording, long-wavelength X-ray analysis, and noise

reduction.

Voyager 1 has become the first human-made object to venture into interstellar space
