Mumbai Airport Among Least Punctual

Airports In The World: Study

International

Airport has been

ranked as the fifth least punctual airport in the world

with a rank of 509 out of the 513 airports globally.

The Nagoya Komaki Airport in Japan topped

the global ranking list with an ‘on-time

performance’ (OTP) rate of 94.5 percent.

Further, Air India is the lowest ranking

Indian airline on the list, ranked at 64 out of

65 airlines.

South Korea’s low-cost airline T’way Air

topped the global ranking.

Kiren Rijiju to lead a High Level delegation to

participate in AMCDRR 2018

A high level Ministerial delegation from India

headed by Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for

Home Affairs will be participating in the Asian

Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

2018 (AMCDRR 2018) to be held in Ulaanbaatar,

Mongolia from 03-06 July, 2018.

The AMCDRR 2018 is expected to host over

3,000 delegates and participants from Asian

and Pacific countries, governmental and

inter-governmental organisations, United

Nations and international organisations.

The theme of the AMCDRR 2018:

‘Preventing Disaster Risk: Protecting

Sustainable Development’ reflects the

essence of the Sendai Framework.

9th meeting of EPG on Indo-Nepal relations

concludes in Kathmandu

The ninth and

final meeting of

Eminent Persons

Group (EPG) on

India-Nepal

relations

concluded in Kathmandu.

The Representatives from Nepal and India

deliberated up on various bilateral issues

including 1950 Peace and Friendship treaty,

trade, transit and border during the two day

meeting.

Indian side was represented by Bhagat Singh

Koshyari, Jayant Prasad, Bhuvan Chandra

Upreti and Mahendra P. Lama.

UNESCO to set up Gaming University in Andhra

Pradesh

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural

Organisation (UNESCO) will be setting up a 'Design

University for Gaming' in Visakhapatnam.

UNESCO delegation entered into an

agreement with Andhra Pradesh Economic

Development Board (APEDB) for the

establishment of 'Gaming Digital Learning

Hub'.

The UNESCO delegation asked the Chief

Minister for an allocation of 100 acres of

land in Visakhapatnam.

International Day of Cooperatives 2018: 7 July

The United Nations' (UN) International Day of

Cooperatives is observed on the first Saturday of

July each year.

Some of the day's goals are to increase

awareness on cooperatives, as well as

strengthen and extend partnerships between

the international cooperative movement and

other supporting organizations including

governments.

The theme for the 2018 International Day of

Cooperatives (IDC) is "Sustainable

Prakash Javadekar to inaugurate 17th World

Sanskrit Conference

Human Resource Development Minister Shri

Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the 17th World

Sanskrit Conference to be held at Vancouver,

Canada from 9th July to 13th July, 2018.

More than 500 scholars and delegates from

over 40 countries will be participating in this

conference and exchange their knowledge by

presenting papers on various subjects

followed by discussions from amongst the

members.

There will be a special panel discussion on

over a dozen topics like; History &

Education of Women in Vedic Literature;

Sanskrit Buddhist Manuscripts; Mimamsa

Beyond the Yagasala; The Yuktidipika

Forging a Place for Sankhya; Introducing

Bhagavata Purana Commentaries; Research

on the Gargiyajyotisa.

Over 500 papers on various themes are likely

to be presented during the 5-day conference.

The purpose of this conference is to promote,

preserve and practice the Sanskrit language

all over the world by the people.

The World Sanskrit Conference is being held

in various countries across the globe once in

every three years and so far it has been held

thrice in India.

World Population Day: 11 July

World Population day is an annual event, observed

on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise

awareness of global population issues.

The event was established by the Governing

Council of the United Nations Development

Programme in 1989.

World Population Day 2018 observes the

theme, "Family planning is a human right."

India climbs 3 spots to 57th in global innovation

rankings

The Global Innovation Index (GII) has ranked India

as the 57thmost innovative nation in the world.

The country has improved its ranking from

60th position last year.

India has been improving steadily since it

was ranked 81st in 2015.

Switzerland ranked for 8th straight year.

Nepal to host BIMSTEC Summit on Aug 31

Nepal is set to hold a two-day Bay of Bengal

Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and

Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit,

starting from August 31, in Kathmandu.

Nepal, the host nation and the current chair

of the BIMSTEC, has made preparations to

discuss over the trans-border crimes,

terrorism, natural calamities, extremism, and

illegal trade of arms, ammunition and drugs.

6th meeting of BRICS Education Ministers at

Cape Town

Union Minister of State for HRD, Dr Satya Pal

Singh attended the 6th meeting of BRICS Education

Ministers at Cape Town, South Africa.

In this meeting of BRICS, India was allotted

the key theme of ‘Digitization in Education’.

He apprised to all present about the India’s

initiatives like SWAYAM, SWAYAM

PRABHA, National Digital Library,

National Academic Depository, E-Yantra,

Virtual Labs, Operation Digital Board, E-

Pathshala, Diksha, and Geographic

information System (GIS).

India unveils world's largest visa centre in

Bangladesh

Visiting Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh

inaugurated the world's largest state-of-the-art visa

centre in Dhaka with modern facilities.

Singh inaugurated the integrated centre at

Jamuna Future Park (JFP) along with his

Bangladeshi counterpart Asaduzzaman

Khan Kamal.

India becomes Vice Chair of the Asia Pacific

Region of World Customs Organisation

India has become the Vice-Chair (Regional Head) of

the Asia Pacific Region of World Customs

Organisation (WCO) for a period of two years, from

July, 2018 to June, 2020.

The WCO has divided its Membership into

six Regions. Each of the six Regions is

represented by a regionally elected Vice-

Chairperson to the WCO Council.

Being the Vice Chair of AP Region of WCO

will enable India to take on leadership role.

WCO represents 182 Customs

administrations across the globe that

collectively process approximately 98% of

world trade.

Rajnath Singh co-chairs the 6th meeting of India-

Bangladesh Home Minister level talks

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh co-

chaired the 6th meeting of the Home Minister level

talks with his Bangladesh counterpart, Mr.

Asaduzzaman Khan in Dhaka.

During the meeting, all security related

matters of interest including counter-

terrorism, capacity building and increased

cooperation between security agencies,

border management, countering illegal

activities like fake currency, drug and human

trafficking, consular issues etc. were

discussed.

The two Ministers also witnessed the signing

of the Revised Travel Arrangement 2018

(RTA 2018) amending the earlier RTA 2013

for further liberalizing the visa regime

between the two countries, including

enhanced duration for employment and

student visas.

8th India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting

Begins in Muscat

The Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and

Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, today co-chaired 8th

session of India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting

(JCM) along with Minister of Industry, Investment,

Trade and Digital Economy of Oman, Dr. Ali bin

Masoud Al Sunaidy.

Addressing the Joint Commission Suresh

Prabhu invited Omani companies to build on

their success in India and make investments

to benefit from ‘Make in India’ and ‘Invest

India’ programmes which are aimed to

encourage manufacturing.

Areas of discussion in the JCM include

cooperation in space, renewable energy,

start-up, SMEs, food security, including

durable foods and packaging, services

sector, tourism sector, exchange of ideas and

visit of young entrepreneurs.

Iceland takes up US seat at UN rights council

Iceland was elected to take

up the seat left vacant at

the United Nations Human

Rights Council after the

United States quit the body

over what it charges was

anti-Israel bias.

In a vote at the General Assembly, Iceland

picked up 172 votes during a secret ballot as

the candidate put forward by the regional

grouping for that seat.

Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela

Day) is an annual international day in honour of

Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July,

Mandela's birthday.

The day was officially declared by the

United Nations in November 2009.

Mandela Day is a day to honour the legacy

of Nelson Mandela, South Africa's former

President.

BRICS Media Forum opens in Cape Town, South

Leaders of media organizations from BRICS

countries met to discuss cooperation at the BRICS

Media Forum that opened in Cape Town, South

Africa.

The 3rd BRICS Media forum is being held

Ministers’ Meeting at Durban

“India affirms strong support for TB cooperation

plan in every aspect as agreed upon in the 6th BRICS

Health Ministers’ meeting held in Delhi in 2016 and

in the first High-Level Meeting of the UN General

Assembly on Ending Tuberculosis.’This was stated

by Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and

Family Welfare during his address at the ‘8th BRICS

Health Ministers’ Meeting at Durban, South Africa.

Shri J P Nadda further said that to improve

healthcare, there is a need for increasing

accessibility of affordable, quality, effective

and safe drugs, vaccines and diagnostics for

TB patients.

“I would like to state that India is committed

to eliminating TB by 2025,” the Union

Health Minister further emphasized.

India, US to hold first '2+2 dialogue' on

September 6

The inaugural 'two-

plus-two dialogue'

between India and

the US will be held

on September 6 in

New Delhi, the

State Department announced.

Last month, the US had postponed the

dialogue due to "unavoidable reasons".

'2+2 dialogue' is an interaction between the

foreign and defence ministers of the two

countries.

Myanmar joins International Solar Alliance

Solar Alliance (ISA), becoming the 68th member of

the grouping that is aiming at optimum utilisation of

solar energy.

PM Modi Flags Off Emergency Ambulance

Service In Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated first

phase of the India-assisted emergency ambulance

service over Sri Lanka, through video conferencing

from New Delhi.

The inaugural function was held in Jaffna of

the Northern Province, in the presence of Sri

Lankan Prime Minister Ranil

Wickremesinghe.

During the launch, PM Modi recalled the

Srilankan PM's idea of setting up such

project in 2015. He expressed happiness over

completion of the project.

The service has been introduced in two

provinces of Sri Lanka with assistance from

India and is being expanded to the remaning

seven provinces.

India extends $200 million credit lines to Rwanda

India has extended $200 million lines of credit to

Rwanda as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held

wide-ranging talks with President Paul Kagame and

discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in

trade and agriculture sector.

After the one-on-one talks with president

Kagame, Modi announced that India will

soon open its mission in Rwanda.

The two countries signed agreements on

leather and allied areas and agricultural

research.

Myanmar to host Asean education meet in Oct

Myanmar which will host the next Asean Education

Ministers Meeting (ASED) in October seeks to boost

its education sector by cooperating with India, China

and the US among others.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations

(Asean) partner countries include India,

China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand,

Russia, the US and Australia.

The first ASED was held in Singapore in

2006, while the last in Malaysia.

Ireland to hold international conference of

female parliamentarians

Ireland will hold an international conference of

female parliamentarians in September.

Organised by the Irish Women's

Parliamentary Caucus (IWPC) the

conference will be held at Dublin Castle on

September 9-10.

The event will be attended by an estimated

300 delegates from over 27 countries and

regions.

The word Girinka can be translated as ‘may

Indian Air Force Participates for the First Time

in Exercise Pitch Black – 18

An Indian Air Force contingent comprising of four

Su-30 MKI, 01 X C-130 and 01 X C-17 aircraft,

landed at Darwin Air Force Base, Australia for the

Exercise Pitch Black – 18.

This is the first time that an IAF contingent

is participating in a multinational air exercise

in Australia with Royal Australian Air Force.

This exercise involves over 100 aircraft from

around the globe and will provide a unique

opportunity to the air-warriors to operate in

a dynamic warlike environment.

Thaawarchand Gehlot Attends Global Disability

Summit 2018 in London

Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for

Social Justice & Empowerment attended the Global

Disability Summit held in London on 24th July 2018.

The motto of the Conference was to firm up

the commitments of the country leaders

towards the cause of persons with

disabilities.

The Global leaders expressed their

commitments towards elimination stigma

and discrimination, promoting inclusive

education, economic empowerment,

technology and innovation in assistive

devices, data desegregation etc.

Besides India, global leaders from more than

40 countries attended the summit and have

committed themselves to work in the

direction of economic empowerment of

persons with disabilities.

India, B'desh Coast Guards conducting exercise

on pollution

The Indian Coast Guard is conducting a bilateral

table-top exercise on maritime pollution response

with Bangladesh Coast Guard at the regional

headquarters (North East) of the ICG.

ICG (NE) commander Inspector General

said the two-day exercise is being conducted

in the backdrop of the MoU signed between

India and South Asian Cooperation for

Environment Protection (SACEP).

The Bangladesh Coast Guard delegation was

led by Captain M Ehsanullah Khan,

Commanding officer, BCGS.

World Hepatitis Day, observed on July 28 every

year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis — a

group of infectious diseases known as Hepatitis A,

B, C, D, and E.

World Hepatitis Day is one of eight official

global public health campaigns marked by

the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO (World Health Organisation) has

declared theme for World Hepatitis Day

2018 as: “Test. Treat. Hepatitis”.

International Tiger Day: 29 July

Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger

Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for

tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July.

It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg

Tiger Summit.

The goal of the day is to promote a global

system for protecting the natural habitats of

tigers and to raise public awareness and

support for tiger conservation issues.

Indo-Nepal Tourism Forum to be set up

The second

meeting of

tourism Joint

Working Group

(JWG) between

India and Nepal

was held in Kathmandu on 06.07.2018.

In this meeting it was agreed to set up the

Indo Nepal Tourism Forum with

representation from government and private

sector from both sides for mutual

consultation and promotion of tourism in

both countries.

This JWG also decided to officially

recognise two circuits, Ramayana Circuit

and Buddhist Circuit by both governments

for joint promotions through common

branding and marketing exercises.

Tourism Minister inaugurates the Jodhpur

Institute of Hospitality Management

The Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism Shri. K.J.

Alphons inaugurated the Institute of Hospitality

Management in Jodhpur.

In his inaugural speech,the Minister

highlighted that India is among the fastest

growing Tourism economy in the world and

in 2017, the Indian tourism receipts went up

by 20.8% against a global growth rate of 7%.

Shri. K. J. Alphons hoped that in three years

we will be able to double the revenue from

foreign tourists.

1st July 2018 to be celebrated as ‘GST day’

Government of India is celebrating the 1st

Anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST)

coming into force. GST was launched on the 1st

July, 2017.

The first year has been remarkable both for

the sheer variety of challenges that its

implementation has thrown up and for the

willingness and ability of policy makers and

tax administrators to rise up to these

challenges and respond befittingly.

But more importantly, the first year of GST

has been an example to the world of the

readiness of the Indian taxpayer to be a

partner in this unprecedented reform of

Indian taxation.

Accordingly, it has been decided that

Sunday, the 1st of July, 2018 shall be

commemorated as ‘GST Day’.

Before implementation of GST, Indian

taxation system was a farrago of central,

state and local area levies.

India gets its 37th WORLD UNESCO World

HERITAGE SITE

In yet another landmark achievement, India’s

nomination of the “Victorian and Art Deco

Ensembles of Mumbai” has been inscribed

on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

The decision was taken at the 42nd session

of the World Heritage Committee of

UNESCO at Manama in Bahrain.

As recommended by the World Heritage

Committee, India accepted the renaming of

the ensemble as “Victorian Gothic and Art

Deco Ensembles of Mumbai”.

India has been successful in securing the

inscription of the "Victorian Gothic and Art

Deco Ensembles of Mumbai” on UNESCO's

World Heritage List under Criteria (ii) and

(iv) as defined in the UNESCO's Operational

Guidelines.

This makes Mumbai city the second city in

India after Ahmedabad to be inscribed on the

World Heritage List.

AI task force hands over Final Report

To study the whole gamut of issues surrounding

strategic implications of AI in national security

perspective, a Task Force was constituted in

February 2018, under the Chairmanship of Shri N

Chandrasekharan, Chairman, Tata Sons.

The Task Force, on June 30, 2018 has

handed over its Final Report with

recommendations.

The Task Force in its report has Studied the

level of AI/ML development in India in

general and specific in the context of defence

needs.

National Doctors’ Day: 1 July

National Doctors’ Day was celebrated throughout

India On 1st July 2018.

This day marks the birth and death

anniversary of the most famous physician of

India Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has

declared the theme for Doctors’ Day 2018

as: ‘zero tolerance to violence against

doctors and clinical establishment’.

IMA has also decided to observed July 1 to 8

as ‘Safe Fraternity Week’.

Instant e-PAN based on Aadhaar launched

The new PAN will

have the same name,

date of birth, gender,

mobile number and

address as in the

Aadhaar.

The e-PAN facility is only for resident

individuals and not for Hindu Undivided

Family, firms, trusts and companies.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT),

which makes policies for the Income Tax

Department, has extended the deadline for

the PAN-Aadhaar linking to March 31 next.

INS Sahyadri adjudged runner-up in an

innovation competition

Indigenously built stealth frigate, INS Sahyadri,

which is participating in RIMPAC (Rim of the

Pacific Exercise), the world’s largest international

maritime exercise, has been adjudged runner-up in

an innovation competition during the harbour phase

of the exercise.

The 26th edition of RIMPAC, hosted by the

U.S. Indo-Pacific Command

(INDOPACOM), commenced off the

Hawaii coast with the participation of about

25,000 personnel and more than 45 surface

ships and submarines from 25 countries.

Election Commission of India to hold a National

Consultation on Accessible Elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has

organized a two-day “National Consultation on

Accessible Elections,” from the 3rd July, 2018 in

New Delhi.

It will be inaugurated by the Chief Election

Commissioner Shri O.P. Rawat, in presence

of the Election Commissioners Shri Sunil

Arora and Shri Ashok Lavasa.

The event is a part of the ECI’s pursuit of its

mission ‘leave no voter behind,’ with special

focus on “Persons with Disabilities” (PwD).

During the inaugural session, a dedicated

portal for the ECI’s ‘Systematic Voters

Education and Electoral Participation’

(SVEEP) initiative will also be launched.

Consultative committee meeting on “Marine

Fisheries-Mariculture in India”

The Ministry

of Agriculture

and Farmers’

Welfare has

notified the

“National

Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2017”, which will guide

the development of marine fisheries sector for the

next 10 years.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare

Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh said this

at the inter-session meeting of the

consultative committee of the Ministry of

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on

“Marine Fisheries-Mariculture in India” in

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry

of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to

discuss and deliberate various issues related

to “Marine Fisheries - Mariculture in India”.

Union Home Minister felicitates medal winners

of 17th World Police & Fire Games-2017

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh

felicitated the medal winners of the 17th World

Police & Fire Games held at Los Angeles,

California, USA from August 7-16, 2017.

He was the chief guest in the function

organized by All India Police Sports Control

Board (AIPSCB) to felicitate the medal

winners.

The 101-member Indian Police contingent

returned with a record breaking haul of 321

medals from the 17th World Police & Fire

Games.

The contingent bagged 151 Gold, 99 Silver

and 71 Bronze medals in the seven events

they participated in the Games.

18. MOD approves construction of 17 New Baffle

Firing Ranges

Ministry of Defence has given a go ahead sanction

for construction of 17 new baffle firing ranges in

Military Stations/Cantonments/Training

Establishments at an approximate cost of Rs. 238

crores.

This will add seven ranges to the Southern

Command, Three to the Eastern Command,

Two to the Northern Command, one each to

the South Western and Central Commands.

The one at Central Command is proposed for

the Officers Training Academy, Gaya.

These 17 will be in addition to the 60 similar

firing ranges existing all over the country.

The proposed baffle shooting ranges can

facilitate firing from 300 to 500 meters.

Baffle firing ranges are covered shooting

practice areas which prevent possible

accidents due to stray bullet injuries.

Commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas

the Corps of Military Police, was flagged off’ on 02

July 2018 to commemorate the victory of Indian

Army in Operation Vijay 1999.

The expedition will traverse a distance of

more than 3250 Kms from Bangalore to

Dras, Jammu and Kashmir over a period of

24 days across eight states of the country,

reaching Kargil War Memorial, Dras on 26

July 2018.

The ‘SHWET ASHW’ was raised in the year

1952 at CMP Centre & School, Faizabad.

Since its raising the team has performed at

various National and International events

and holds Three Guinness Book World

Records in its name.

The Chief Election Commissioner Shri. O.P. Rawat,

along with the Election Commissioners Shri Sunil

Arora and Shri Ashok Lavasa launched a mobile

app, called ‘Cvigil,’ on July 3, 2018, for citizens to

report any violation of the model code of conduct

during elections.

“cVIGIL" is a user-friendly and easy to

operate Android application. It will be

operational only where elections are

announced.

However, the beta version of the app will be

made available for the public and election

staff to download so that they can acquaint

themselves with its features and also try

sending dummy data.

Upon successful completion of the trial that

is underway, the application will be made

available for general use by all, right from

the forthcoming Assembly elections in the

States of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh,

Mizoram and Rajasthan.

The practical use of the app during the four-

state Assembly polls will also serve as a pilot

initiative before it is put to extensive use

during the next Lok Sabha General

Elections.

Jharkhand to set up country's first Khadi mall

The first 'Khadi Mall' of the country will be opened

in Ranchi soon, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar

Das announced.

Land in the Heavy Engineering Corporation

(HEC) campus will be made available to the

attended the famous 4-day Meghalaya Annual

Cultural Festival, "Behdienkhlam", held every year

at the small peripheral town of Jowai, Meghalaya.

On the concluding day of the festival, Dr

Jitendra Singh spent time with the visitors

from across the region who had come to

attend the festival. He also showed interest in

the religious rituals associated with the

event.

Cabinet approves Umbrella Schemes for Relief

and Rehabilitation of Migrants and Repatriates

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri

Narendra Modi has given its approval for

continuance of the 8 existing schemes of the

Ministry of Home Affairs upto March 2020 for relief

and rehabilitation of migrants and repatriates under

the Umbrella scheme "Relief and Rehabilitation of

Migrants and Repatriates".

The financial implication for this purpose is

Rs. 3183 crore for the period 2017-18 to

2019-20.

The year-wise phasing of the scheme will be-

Rs. 911 crore in 2017-18, Rs.1372 crore in

2018-19 and Rs. 900 crore in 2019-2020.

The schemes will provide relief and

rehabilitation assistance to the refugees,

displaced persons, civilian victims of

terrorist/communal/LWE violence and cross

border firing and mine/IED blasts on Indian

Territory and riot victims of various

incidents etc.

The schemes are as under:

Central Assistance for one-time settlement

of displaced families from Pak Occupied

Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Chhamb

settled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

Rehabilitation Package and up-

gradation of infrastructure of the

Cabinet approves DNA Technology (Use and

Application) Regulation Bill, 2018

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri

Narendra Modi has approved The DNA Technology

(Use and Application) Regulation Bill 2018.

The primary intended purpose for enactment

of "The DNA Technology (Use and

Application) Regulation Bill" is for

expanding the application of DNA-based

forensic technologies to support and

strengthen the justice delivery system of the

country.

The utility of DNA based technologies for

solving crimes, and to identify missing

persons, is well recognized across the world.

Cabinet approves renaming of Agartala Airport

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister,

Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval to

rename the Agartala Airport in Tripura as ‘Maharaja

Bir Bikram Manikya Kishore Airport, Agartala.

The decision comes in the wake of the long

pending demand of people of Tripura as well

as the Tripura Government for paying tribute

to Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Kishore.

MP govt launches outstanding power bill waiver

scheme ‘Sambal’

In Madhya Pradesh, the government has launched an

outstanding power bill waiver scheme and

subsidised power scheme ‘Sambal’ for labourers and

poor families.

Under the scheme, the Below Poverty Line

(BPL) families would be provided electricity

at a cost of 200 rupees per month.

One crore 83 lakh workers registered under

Sambal Yojana in the state till now.

Under this scheme, outstanding electricity

bill worth five thousand 179 crores rupees is

to be waived off.

Vaccine-preventable rabies is India’s most fatal

infection

Rabies is the only

disease that had a 100%

death rate in India in

2017, compared to 12%

encephalitis and 6% for

H1N1, popularly

known as swine flu,

according to data from the National Health Profile

2018.

There were 4,370 rabies deaths in India in

2016, which accounted for one in three of the

world’s 13,340 rabies deaths.

Successful flight testing of Crew Escape System -

Technology Demonstrator

ISRO carried out a major technology demonstration,

the first in a series of tests to qualify a Crew Escape

System, which is a critical technology relevant for

human spaceflight.

The Crew Escape System is an emergency

escape measure designed to quickly pull the

crew module along with the astronauts to a

safe distance from the launch vehicle in the

event of a launch abort.

The first test (Pad Abort Test) demonstrated

the safe recovery of the crew module in case

of any exigency at the launch pad.

ICAT releases First BS-VI engine certificate

ICAT has completed the first BS-VI certification for

a heavy duty engine model for M/s Volvo Eicher

Commercial Vehicle Limited.

The engine has been developed and

manufactured indigenously by Volvo Eicher

in India.

The successful completion of the compliance

test of the engine, much ahead of the

implementation date of 1 April, 2020, gives

sufficient time for product stabilization in

terms of making it more robust and cost

competitive for the end consumers.

Railways approves digital Aadhaar and Driving

Licence from Digital Locker as proof of identity

The issue regarding accepting Aadhaar and Driving

Licence as valid proof of identity when presented

from digital locker account of the passenger has

been examined by Ministry of Railways and it has

been decided that while undertaking journey in a

train, if a passenger shows the Aadhaar/Driving

Licence from the ‘Issued Documents’ section by

logging into his/her DigiLocker account, the same

should be considered as valid proof of identity.

It is, however, clarified that the documents

uploaded by the user himself/herself (i.e. the

documents in ‘Uploaded Documents’

section) will not be considered as a valid

proof of identity.

First meeting of e-Commerce Task Force held

Commerce Secretary,

Rita Teaotia, chaired the

first meeting of the Task

Force on e-commerce in

New Delhi.

The meeting

deliberated upon the suggestions emerging

from the sub-group meetings held during 20th

– 22nd June, 2018.

The suggestions were on wide ranging issues

such as cross border data flows, taxation,

trade facilitation and logistics, consumer

confidence, IPR and future tech, FDI and

competition issues.

The sub-groups saw participation from

various ministries and departments, high

level representatives from the industry

bodies, e-commerce companies,

telecommunication and IT companies and

independent experts.

NTA to conduct entrance examinations for

higher educational Institutions

The Minister of Human Resource Development,

Shri Prakash Javadekar has said that the National

Testing Agency (NTA) has started its work and will

be conducting various entrance examinations for

higher educational Institutions from next academic

sessions onwards.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi,

he said that the NTA will bring qualitative

difference in the examination process by its

focus on research and scientific test design

using services of Experts, Researchers,

Statisticians, Psychometricians, Test Item

Writers and Education Specialists.

The new system will be student friendly, fair

, transparent and flexible, the Minister

added.

Nepal, India to jointly promote tourism

Nepal and India have decided to jointly promote

historically and culturally important tourism circuits

like the Ramayana and Buddhist Circuit and

adventure tourism.

India will also extend all possible

cooperation in the domain of human resource

development in tourism.

During a joint meeting of the Nepalese and

Indian officials, both the sides also decided

to establish an industry-led Indo-Nepal

Tourism Forum with the support of the two

governments.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime

Minister described the occasion as a special

He said the investment of about Rs. 5000

Government declares 6 educational ‘Institutions

of Eminence

The Government has shortlisted Six Institutions of

Eminence (IoEs) including 3 from Public Sector

and 3 from Private Sector.

An Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) in

its report recommended selection of 6

institutions (3 from public sector and 3 from

private sector) as Institutions of Eminence.

The details of these Institutions are as under:

Public Sector: (i) Indian Institute of Science,

Bangalore, Karnataka; (ii) Indian Institute of

Technology, Bombay, Maharashtra; and (iii)

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Indian Railways Introduces First Double Stack

Dwarf Container Service

Under the guidance of Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister

of Finance, Corporate Affairs, Railways and Coal, in

order to capture the lost traffic through new delivery

model for domestic cargo, Indian Railways has

introduced Double Stack Dwarf Container Services.

This freight train was flagged off on 7th July,

2018 from Western Railway’s Rajkot

railway station on its maiden commercial

run.

This train was booked from the Reliance Rail

Siding at Kanalus to Rewari in the state of

Haryana; it was loaded with 82 containers

Polypropylene Granules.

Due to this Double Stacked Dwarf Container

service, Indian Railways has received

increased revenue of Rs. 18.50 lakhs.

HM chairs the 67th Plenary Session of the North

Eastern Council in Shillong

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has

asked the North-Eastern states to expedite work on

long pending projects of the North Eastern Council

(NEC) and ensure maximum utilisation of funds.

Addressing the 67th Plenary Session of the

NEC in Shillong today, he said NEC and the

eight North-Eastern States would have to

ensure that all the ongoing projects were

completed in a time bound manner.

financial package of Rs 4,500 crore by the

released the final rankings of States in Ease of Doing

Business in New Delhi.

The top rankers are Andhra Pradesh,

Gujarat stood fourth and fifth respectively.

conducted an annual reform exercise for all

The aim of this exercise is to improve

Ministry of Water Resources Launches “Jal

Bachao, Video Banao, Puruskar Pao” Contest

In an attempt to engage with the people of India on

the important issues of water conservation and water

management, the Ministry of Water Resources,

River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has

launched a video contest titled “Jal Bachao, Video

Banao, Puruskar Pao”.

The Ministry has joined hands with MyGov

portal of the Government of India to run the

contest.

The fortnightly contest which was launched

through MyGov, will last till 4th November

2018.

Three winners will be chosen every

fortnight.

INS Tarangini Visits Sunderland to Participate

in Tall Ship Races – 2018

INS Tarangini arrived at her seventh port,

Sunderland in the UK, during her Lokayan-18

voyage and also to participate in the prestigious ‘tall

ship races - 2018’.

The ship is part of the first Training

Squadron based at Kochi, under the Southern

Naval Command of the Indian Navy.

The name ‘Tarangini’ is derived from the

Hindi word ‘Tarang’ meaning waves; thus,

Tarangini means ‘the one that rides the

waves’.

INS Tarangini is the first ship of the Indian

Navy to have circumnavigated the globe in

the year 2003-04 and has participated in tall

ship races conducted around the world in

2007, 2011 and 2015.

This beautiful ship, in her 21st year of

service, is once again ready to create history

with Lokayan-18.

Lokayan is a combination of two Sanskrit

words: ‘Lokya’ meaning worldwide and

‘Yana’ meaning travel, thus literally

meaning, ‘travel around the world’.

An independent survey agency will conduct

announced in the form of a ranking of all

districts and states on the basis of

quantitative and qualitative sanitation

(Swachhata) parameters.

The top performing states and districts are

Pipe Conveyor System

The Union Minister of Railways, Finance, Corporate

Affairs and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the

MAHAGENCO Pipe Conveyor System for coal

transportation from cluster of mines of Western

Coalfields Limited (WCL).

The first Pipe Conveyor project of 6.3 Km

length is a dedicated system for Chandrapur

Super Thermal Power Station of

MAHAGENCO by taking coal from Bhatadi

OC mine, Chandrapur Area and feeding to

MGR at Padmapur.

The second project of approx. 20 Km length

will have five feeding Open Cast Mines of

Nagpur Area of WCL, namely Gondegaon,

Kamptee, Inder, Bhanegaon and Singhori

dedicated to Khaparkheda and Koradi Power

Plants of Maharashtra State Power

Generation Co. Ltd. (MSPGCL).

This project is being carried out in two

phases.

On completion of this project, road

transportation of coal will be stopped and

100 per cent coal production from these

mines of WCL will be transported through

Koradi & Khaperkheda Coal pipe conveyor.

floods, according to government data.

As many as 107,487 people died due to

Samagra Shiksha Scheme to ensure inclusive and

The Department of School Education and Literacy

has formulated the Samagra Shiksha - an Integrated

Scheme for School Education as a Centrally

Sponsored Scheme and it is being implemented

throughout the country with effect from the year

This programme subsumes the three

erstwhile Centrally Sponsored Schemes of

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya

Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and

Teacher Education (TE).

It is an overarching programme for the

school education sector extending from pre-

school to class XII and aims to ensure

inclusive and equitable quality education at

all levels of school education.

Union Home Minister to launch Student Police

Cadet Programme

The Student Police Cadet (SPC) Programme is

scheduled to be launched nationally on the 21st

July, 2018 by the Union Home Minister, Shri

Rajnath Singh.

The programme seeks to build a bridge

between the Police and the larger community

through school students by inculcating

values and ethics in them through classes in

school and outside.

The programme focuses on students of class

8 & 9 and special care has been taken to

ensure that it does not lead to increase in the

workload of the students.

Multi Modal Terminal on Ganga at Varanasi

Nearing Completion

The Rs 169.59 Crore Multi Modal Terminal (MMT)

being built at Varanasi by Inland Waterways

Authority of India under Jal Marg Vikas project is

set to be completed by November this year.

This would be a major landmark for the

project.

The construction of the Rs 280. 90 Crore

MMT at Sahibganj is to be completed by

May, 2019, and the one at Haldia, being

constructed at a cost of Rs 517.36 Crore, is

scheduled to be completed by December

2019.

In addition to this the work on the Rs 359.20

Crore state-of-the-art navigational lock at

Farakka is to be completed By June, 2019.

Contract for maintenance dredging in the

Farakka-Kahalgaon stretch of the river was

awarded in April, 2018, for Rs 150

Crore, and work on this has started.

The work for construction of two Inter-

Modal Terminals (IMT)on NW-1, at

Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and Kalughat in

Bihar will be awarded this year.

Jal Marg Vikas is a Rs 5369 Crore World

Bank aided project on National Waterway 1

(River Ganga), aimed at augmenting the

navigational capacity of the Varanasi to

Haldia stretch of the river, to enable

commercial navigation of at least 1500-2000

ton vessels.

Minister expressed hope that the SPC would

with little attention being paid towards

negative effects on society in terms of

increased crime.

28th meeting of the GST Council held in New

Delhi

The GST Council in its 28th meeting has

recommended certain amendments in the CGST

Act, IGST Act, UTGST Act and the GST

(Compensation to States) Act.

The major recommendations are as detailed below:

Upper limit of turnover for opting for

composition scheme to be raised from Rs. 1

crore to Rs. 1.5 crore. Present limit of

turnover can now be raised on the

recommendations of the Council.

Composition dealers to be allowed to supply

services (other than restaurant services), for

upto a value not exceeding 10% of turnover

in the preceding financial year, or Rs. 5

lakhs, whichever is higher.

The threshold exemption limit for

registration in the States of Assam,

Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh,

Meghalaya, Sikkim and Uttarakhand to be

increased to Rs. 20 Lakhs from Rs. 10 Lakhs.

7th Annual General Body Meeting of ITRHD was

held in New Delhi

The 7th Annual General Body Meeting of Indian

Trust for Rural Heritage and Development (ITRHD)

was held in New Delhi.

This meeting was aimed at recognizing

efforts of preservation of Indian Heritage and

Culture in Rural India and working in

about 7 states of India by ITRHD.

The project involved conserving 62 temples

KHELO INDIA launches unique programme to

nurture sporting talent

Following the successful conduct of the Khelo India

School Games, Sports Authority of India took

another significant step towards the development of

sports, cleared 734 players for a scholarship

programme under Khelo India Talent

IdentificationDevelopment scheme.

A talent identification committee was

formed comprising Arjuna Awardees and

Dronacharya Awardees to shortlist and

propose the names of the beneficiaries to the

High Powered Committee, which cleared the

above numbers after due diligence.

The scholarship programme is designed to

take care of their expenses including

training, development, boarding and lodging

and tournament exposure apart from offering

them out of pocket expense allowance.

Nadu, according to the Public Affairs Index 2018

released by the think tank Public Affairs Centre

(PAC).

five states delivering good governance,

according to the report, Madhya Pradesh,

Jharkhand and Bihar ranked the lowest on

the PAI.

Released annually since 2016, the index

examines governance performance in the

First Meeting of India-Bangladesh Joint

Committee on Border Haats

The first meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint

Committee on Border Haats was held on 22-23 July

2018 in Agartala, Tripura.

In the meeting both sides noted the positive

impact of Border Haats on the livelihoods of

the people living in areas adjoining the

Haats.

Extensive discussions were held on issues

related to review of operations of the four

functional Border Haats and suggestions for

improvement, timeline for setting up the six

additional Border Haats that had earlier been

agreed to by both sides and the roadmap for

further expansion of Border Haats.

It was agreed that the next meeting would be

held in Bangladesh on mutually agreed

dates.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen launched in UP,

The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018)

announced by the Ministry of Drinking Water and

Sanitation on July 13th, 2018, was launched by three

States this week.

Under the SSG 2018, an independent survey

agency will conduct the survey in all districts

from 1st to 31st August 2018, and the results

will be announced in the form of a ranking of

all districts and States on the basis of

quantitative and qualitative sanitation

(Swachhata) parameters.

The top performing States and Districts are

expected to be awarded on 2nd October

2018.

36th Central Sanctioning and Monitoring

Committee (CSMC) Meeting of PMAY

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved

the construction of 2,67,546 more affordable houses

for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri

Awas Yojana (Urban).

The approval was given in the 36thmeeting of

the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring

Committee in its meeting.

With the above proposed houses, cumulative

houses under PMAY(U) after subsuming

projects of RAY scheme the total number of

houses being funded under PMAY(Urban)

would be 53,74,306 houses.

17 sites in the country to be developed as Iconic

Tourist Sites

Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12

clusters in the country for development under Iconic

Tourist Sites Development Project, pursuant to

Budget Announcements of 2018-19.

Ajanta & Ellora; Delhi- Humayun’s Tomb,

Karnataka is the new national leader in renewable

energy generation, US-based Institute for Energy

Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) said.

It has overtaken Tamil Nadu that had long

been India's top renewables market.

With a population of more than 60 million,

Karnataka has a total of 12.3 gigawatts (GW)

of renewable capacity installed till March,

after having added five GW in 2017-18

alone, it said.

International Children's Film Festival

36 films from 17 countries would be screened.

The Governor also called for screening of

one children's film in every cinema hall of

International conference on India-Vietnam

economic ties

Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies

among the ASEAN countries said Union Minister of

Commerce& Industry and Civil Aviation in New

Delhi. He was speaking at an international

conference on India-Vietnam economic ties.

The Minister said that India values the

Category States where the ratio is 90:10.

The scheme is envisaged to work at various

levels and at the national level and state level

Srikrishna Committee suggests amendments in

Aadhaar Act

The Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee on data

protection in India has suggested amendments to

various laws including the Aadhaar Act to provide

for imposition of penalties on data fiduciaries and

compensations to data principals for violations of the

data protection law.

The 213-page report, prepared by a 10-

member committee set up last year under the

chairmanship of the retired Supreme Court

judge, was submitted to Law and Electronics

Minister Ravishankar Prasad who said that

the government will go through the draft bill

and take stakeholder comments before

taking Cabinet approval for finalising the

legislation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- led government in

Assam will be introducing a law from October 2 that

will make it mandatory for state government

employees to look after their aged parents and

physically-challenged siblings who do not have any

source of income.

Assam Employees Parents Responsibility

and Norms for Accountability and

Monitoring (PRANAM) Bill, 2017 was

passed by the government last year.

Dependent parents not having any source of

income can get up to 10 percent of the salary

of the employee.

PM attends groundbreaking ceremony of various

projects in Uttar Pradesh

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited

Lucknow. He attended the groundbreaking

ceremony of 81 projects in Uttar Pradesh, with a

total investment of over 60,000 crore rupees.

These projects have materialised within a

few months after the UP Investors Summit,

which was organized in February 2018, in an

effort to attract investments and promote

industrialisation in the State.

He said India has become the world's second

17 antiquities returned to India from U.S since

2016

Cabinet approves extension of Scheme of

Recapitalization of RRBs upto 2019-20

scheme of recapitalization of Regional Rural Banks

(RRBs) for the next three years i.e. upto 2019-20.

This will enable the RRBs to maintain the

minimum prescribed Capital to Risk

Weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR) of 9 per

cent.

A strong capital structure and minimum

required level of CRAR will ensure financial

stability of RRBs which will enable them to

play a greater role in financial inclusion and

meeting the credit requirements of rural

areas.

There are 56 RRBs functioning in the

country. As on 31st March, 2017(Prov.), the

total credit given by RRBs is Rs.2,28,599

Bank of China gets RBI licence to launch

operations in India

The Reserve Bank of India has issued licence to

Bank of China to launch operations in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a

commitment to Chinese President Xi Jinping

to allow Bank of China to set up branches in

India when they met on the sidelines of the

SCO summit in Chinese city of Qingdao last

month.

Bank of China is one of the very few state-

25 countries in global banks’ ‘high risk’ list

China, UAE, Cyprus and significantly, Mauritius,

along with 21other countries have been tagged as

“high-risk jurisdictions” by global banks acting as

custodians for foreign funds which comprise the

largest group of investors in the Indian stock market.

Sebi-registered foreign portfolio funds invest

in India through 56 countries. Of these, 25

are now considered ‘high risk’.

Govt. launches GST ‘Verify App’

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs

(CBIC) has developed and launched a mobile app

named ‘GST Verify’ to protect interest of

consumers.

The application is to verify if the person

collecting GST from the consumer is eligible

to collect it or not.

It also provides the details of the person /

company collecting GST.

HDFC Bank most valuable bank in the emerging

HDFC Bank has gone past Russia's Sberbank to

become the most valuable bank in the emerging

market outside China.

HDFC Bank’s current market capitalisation

is $78.4 billion against Sberbank's $74.4

billion.

There are four lenders from India that now

rank among the world's 500 most valuable

companies.

HDFC Bank is followed by Housing

RIL becomes India's largest tax payer in private

sector

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said

that Reliance is India's largest payer of Goods and

Services Tax (GST), Excise and Customs Duty, and

Income Tax in the private sector.

Speaking at the Reliance Industries' 41st

Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani

highlighted that Jio's subscribers grew from

124 million at the end of last year to 210

million at the end of FY18.

BHEL to partner Ukraine's Zorya for overhaul

of warship turbines

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is setting up a

joint venture (JV) in India with the Ukrainian

manufacturer, Zorya Mashproekt, to overhaul

turbines in India.

The navy will soon have 34 warships driven

by Zorya turbines, with four turbines per

vessel, adding up to 136 in-service turbines.

There will also be a stock of six-eight spare

turbines. A turbine is overhauled after

running 30,000 hours.

RBI cancels licence of Alwar Urban Co-operative

Bank

The RBI said the licence of Alwar Urban Co-

operative Bank in Alwar, Rajasthan has been

cancelled as it is not in a position to pay its

depositors in full as and when their claims accrue,

among other reasons.

The present financial position of the bank

leaves no scope for its revival, the RBI said,

adding that the cancellation of the licence is

effective from the close of business on July

5.

ADB accords approval for lining project of the

Son canal in Shahabad – Bhojpur region

Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New &

Renewable Energy Shri R.K Singh took a meeting

with the officials from ADB and Finance Ministry to

review the progress of lining project of the Son

canal in Shahabad – Bhojpur region of Bihar.

During the meeting ADB representatives

informed that ADB had accorded approval

for this project.

Shri RK Singh asked the ADB and Finance

Ministry officials to fix a timeframe for the

completion of the project.

It was agreed during the meeting that

Finance Ministry will give permission to

appoint consultants by 17th July, 2018 and

ADB consultants will start their work by the

end of July.

It may be noted that the estimated cost of this

project is USD 503 million (Rs 3272.49

crore) out of which USD 352 million is being

provided by ADB.

India-Korea Technology Exchange Centre

Inaugurated

The India-Korea Technology Exchange Centre was

Inaugurated by the Minister of State (I/C) MSME Giriraj

Singh and Minister of SMEs and Start-ups of Republic of

Korea, Hong Jong- hak in New Delhi.

Speaking on this occasion,Giriraj Singh said

that the purpose of the Technology Exchange

Centre is to create a platform for micro, small

and medium enterprises of India and Korea

where they can be assisted to identify and

exchange latest technologies, share

management expertise, product development

and technology applications for product

development.

The MSME Minister further said that the

Technology Centre will also work towards

building reliable alliances in Space, Solar

Energy, Nano technologies and some other

upcoming technologies.

He said that a number of Korean

organizations have showed keen interest to

initiate technology transfers in MSME

sectors between the two countries and this

Centre will provide them reliable partners for

effecting business alliances.

Microsoft signs MoU with Raj govt for digital

training to 9,500 students

Microsoft has signed an MoU with the Rajasthan

government to provide free digital training to 9,500

college students in one year.

The initiative was taken for the enhancement

of digital learning and capacity building of

college students in the state.

The state few months back had signed MoU

with IGNOU for nearly two dozen courses

on skill development.

Five PSBs to get Rs 11,337 cr fund infusion

The government is going to infuse Rs 11,337 crore

within next few days in five state-owned banks.

The capital infusion will be made in Punjab

Overseas Bank (IOB).

The latest round of infusion is aimed at

helping the banks meet the regulatory capital

A new Cruise Terminal having facilities to handle

5000 tourists will come up at Ernakulum Wharf of

The estimated cost of construction of the

Govt slashes minimum yearly deposit for

Sukanya Samriddhi account to Rs 250

The government has slashed the minimum annual

deposit requirement for accounts under the Sukanya

Samriddhi Yojana to Rs 250 from Rs 1,000 earlier.

The government has amended the Sukanya

Samriddhi Account Rules, 2016, to state that

the minimum initial deposit to open the

account would be Rs 250.

Till November 2017, more than 1.26 crore

accounts have been opened across the

country in the name of girl children.

The Government has signed a Memorandum of

Authority Act, 1999 (UK) to improve public

transport in India.

The MoU would help mainly in sharing of

MCA constituted Committee to review the

offences under the Companies Act, 2013

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has

constituted a 10 Member Committee, headed by the

Secretary of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, for

review of the penal provisions in the Companies Act,

2013.

The MCA seeks to review offences under the

Companies Act, 2013 as some of the

offences may be required to be

decriminalised and handled in an in-house

mechanism, where a penalty could be levied

in instances of default.

This would also allow the trial courts to pay

more attention on offences of serious nature.

Committee set up to synergise NCC and NSS

Government has decided to set up a committee under

the Chairmanship of Shri Anil Swarup, former

Secretary, School Education, with suitable

representations from NCC, M/o Youth Affairs and

Ministry of HRD to suggest measures to strengthen

National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service

Scheme (NSS).

The Committee will deal with on issues like

expansion, strengthening training

infrastructure, rationalizing resources,

reducing manpower deficiency affecting

NCC and NSS.

The Committee will also submit recommend

for building synergies between these two

institutions viz. NCC and NSS and further

strengthen them for empowering the youth.
