ECONOMY/BANKING

Union Cabinet has approved to bring regulation of cooperative banks under Reserve Bank of

India. In order to achieve this, the Cabinet approved amendments to Banking regulation act. + The

amendments will apply to all urban co-operative banks and multi-state cooperative banks.

FDI INFLOW = rises 10% to USD 36.76 billion during 2019-20 + Singapore - largest source +

Amalgamation of 10 state-owned banks into four = amalgamation of United Bank of India and

The State Bank of India has launched an additional liquidity facility “Covid-19 Emergency Credit

Line (CECL)” + The facility has been launched by India’s largest lender State Bank of India to

meet any liquidity mismatch for its borrowers in order to tide over the current crisis situation.

Securities and Exchange Board of India has launched a mobile application ‘Sebi SCORES’ for

The World's first Digital Solutions Exchange in the cloud "GOKADDAL" has been launched in

The Sanctuary begins in the Vindhyan Ranges, extends along the Chambal river and ends in

commission + The coalition was named “United for Biodiversity”+ The Global Coalition is

constituted of national parks, aquariums, zoos, botanical gardens and science museums + The

Coalition cited Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services ( IPBES)-

is Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services + It is not a

part of United Nations. However, on the request of IPBES, the United Nations Environment

Programme provides secretariat services to IPBES. IPBES focuses on assessments, building

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

CRISPR (CaS9)-The Gene Editing Tool used to treat blindness for the first time + The Gene

Editing Tool called CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats).

Biomethanation = The Government of India has taken the technology of Biomethanation as a

solution for stubble burning+ Biomethanation is a process by which organic materials are

microbiologically converted into biogas in anaerobic conditions. Anaerobic condition is an

environment without oxygen.

Anti-HIV drugs (Lopinavir and Ritonavir)used against COVID-19 for the first time in India.

GOI develops cost effective Solar Receiver Tube Technology = The tubes developed absorbs

solar energy and converts the heat to required application + They provide high resistance to

corrosion especially to Indian weather conditions+ The Technology is a wet chemical process that

is used to coat stainless steel tubes that are used in industrial heat applications.

Hydroxychloroquine drug = Anti-Malarial Drug used Only in India and USA for asymptomatic

persons that are in close contact with the COVID-19 patients + India has also banned the export of

the drug adopting wider usage + WHO believes that the safety of the drug to use it against COVID-

19 is still not confirmed + it declared as an essential drug+ declared the Hydroxycholoroquine as a

Schedule H1 drug.

Hanta Virus = also called the Orthohanta virus spreads through rats + It causes hemorrhagic fever

with renal syndrome + It transits through urine, droppings, saliva of rodents. The virus enters

humans through their nose, mouth or eyes + The virus does not spread from person-to-person.

Rather, it spreads when a person comes in direct contact with the bodily fluids of the rodents +

spreads through bites of the rats + The virus is not airborne + virus was named by Hantaan river,

after river hantan (river in south korea)

Starch-Based “Hemostat” developed at Institute of Nano Science & technology under Department

of Science & Technology which concentrates the natural clotting factors in blood that are critical for

stopping the blood flow/loss.

India plans to launch Chandrayaan-3 by first half of 2021 + Chandrayaan-3 will be designed to

increase design, capacity with a cost of around Rs 610 crore, including Rs 360 crore for the launch

rocket. ISRO also decided to launch in the same area where Chandrayaan-2 launched, and would

have a lander, rover and propulsion module like its predecessor.

The International Advanced Research for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad

has developed a fuel cell technology called Polymer Electrolyte Membrane fuel cells (PEMFC).

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi will establish a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH)

under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary CyberPhysical Systems (NM-ICPS).
