New method puts India’s FY15 GDP growth at 7.4%

Indian economy is estimated to grow at 7.4 per cent in 2014-15 against 6.9 per cent in previous year.

India now measures GDP by market prices instead of factor cost, to take into account gross value addition in goods and services as well as indirect taxes. The base year has been shifted to 2011/12 from 2004/05.

The Indian economy is also set to cross the two-trillion-dollar-mark at $2.1 trillion in 2014-15, according to the latest GDP data.

According to estimates released by Central Statistics Office, economy grew at 7.5 per cent during the October - December 2014 quarter. The GDP growth for first quarter of 2014-15 has been revised to 6.5 per cent as opposed to 5.7 per cent estimated earlier. GDP growth for the second quarter has been revised to 8.2 per cent from 5.3 per cent estimated earlier.

10th edition of Aero India 2015 to be held in Bengaluru

10th edition of Aero India 2015 will be held in Bengaluru from 18th of this month.

The five day event which is a biennial Air show will be based on the theme- Make in India.

The show includes both flight and static displays of a wide range of Civil and Military aircrafts from leading manufactures, vendors and suppliers.

Around 600 companies across the globe are participating in the function to showcase their strength and expertise in the filed of defence and aviation sectors.

The event will provide a great opportunities for international and domestic companies to explore possibilities in identifying projects of collaborations in manufacturing besides, promoting investment in defence sector.

India's Ricky Kej, Neela Vaswani bag Grammys

At the 57th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles two Indians , Ricky Kej and Neela Vaswani have been awarded.

Bengaluru-based musician Ricky Kej's collaborative album 'Winds of Samsara' with African flautist Wouter Kellerman has won the best new age album award at the 57th Grammy Awards announced in Los Angeles.

Neela Vaswani, won the trophy in the Best Children's Album category for " I am Malala:How one Girl Stood Up for Education and changed the World." In the album, she had narrated the audio version of the book of the same name.

British crooner Sam Smith won four awards including Song of the Year and record of the year for his mega hit 'Stay With Me'.

Pharrell Williams won best pop solo performance for a live version of 'Happy,' released in 2013. He also won best music video for the song as well as best urban contemporary album.

68th British Academy Film Awards announced

The 68th British Academy Films Awards (BAFTA) was announced on 8 February 2015.

The awards were announced to honour the best British and international contributions to film in 2014.

The American film Boyhood won the Best Film Award.

The Theory of Everything was named the Best British Film while The Lego Movie won the Best Animated Film and Citizenfour won the award in Best Documentary category.

Health Minister Shri J P Nadda launches National Deworming Initiative

One of the biggest in the world; It aims to deworm 24 crore children.

The Minister for Health & Family Welfare Shri J P Nadda launched the National Deworming initiative aimed to protect more than 24 crore children in the ages of 1-19 years from intestinal worms, on the eve of the National Deworming Day, at Jaipur today.

They administered the deworming tablets to some school going children.

State Visit of the President of the Republic of Singapore to India

The President of Republic of Singapore H.E. Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Tan, paid a State Visit to India from 8-11 February, 2015, at the invitation of the President Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

Railway Minister Flags off Eight New Trains

The Minister of Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off eight new trains by remote control at a function here today.

These trains are: i) 22813/22814 Paradeep-Howrah Express (Weekly), ii) 58505/58506 Gunupur-Visakhapatnam Passenger (Daily), iii) 56035/56036- Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli passenger (Daily), iv) 58659/58660- Hatia-Rourkela Passenger (Daily), v) 16863/16864 Mannargudi-Bhagat ki Kothi (Jodhpur) Express (Weekly), vi) 15547/15548 Jaynagar-Mumbai Jansadhran Express (Daily), vii)14613/14614- Ferozpur-Chandigarh Express (Daily) and viii) 56665/56666- Byndoor-Kasargod Passenger (Daily).

These trains are a part of the budget announcements made in the Railway Budget 2014-15 (February and July).

A total number of 22 new train services and one extension of existing train service will be implemented over a period of next ten days.

Out of these 22 train services, eight trains were flagged off by the Railway Minister today and remaining train services will be implemented in the course of next nine days.

President of India to preside over two-day Conference of Governors on February 11 & 12

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will preside over a two day Conference of Governors on February 11 and 12, 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

This is the 46th such Conference to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the third Conference to be presided over by Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

Twenty-one Governors and two Lt. Governors of the States and Union Territories will attend the Conference.

The Conference will deliberate on the following agenda items: 1. Security- internal and external with special focus on border security in

States sharing international frontiers; 2. Financial inclusion; 3. Employment generation and employability- making skill development

programmes effective; 4. Sanitation – achieving the goal of Swachh Bharat by 2019 on

Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary; and 5. Issues relating to Fifth and Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India

and development related issues of North Eastern Areas.

Gamesa to set up 300MW wind farms in Rajasthan, Karnataka and AP

Wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa will supply wind turbines for 300 megawatt (MW) of wind power projects that are being set up by independent power producer Greenko in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. 

Gamesa will use its wind turbines that have been designed for low wind speeds at these sites. 

The first phase of 160 MW is underway and the project is expected to be commissioned by June 2015, a statement from the company has said. 

Gamesa will supply, erect and commission 80 wind turbines at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and Basavanabagewadi in Karnataka.

The second phase of 140MW is expected to be secured by April 2015. 

Gamesa will supply 70 of turbines in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. 

This project is expected to be commissioned by September 2015. Gamesa has signed a total of 600MW with Greenko till date of which 160MW of wind capacity in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh has been commissioned.

China launches first maritime Silk Road cruise liner

A Chinese cruise liner started its maiden voyage from the Beihai port in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday morning.

The liner has scheduled stops in Vietnam, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia before eventually reaches Kuantan Port in Malaysia.

The 135-m-long 20-m-wide modern cruise ship can accommodate about 400 people and is equipped with wireless Internet access.

The new cruise liner was another milestone in China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) cooperation and would promote maritime connectivity in the region.
