Current Affairs – 27 February 2018 Q1. Chilika Lake for Dolphins? Chilika Lake in Odisha has become the single largest habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins in the world now. Information Provided by: A Chilika Development Authority (CDA) official, he said that, 155 Irrawaddy dolphins have been identified in the Chilika Lake. Q2. National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC)? Foundation Stone Laid by: Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.

Foundation Stone laid at: IIT Chennai. NTCPWC is set up under the Sagarmala programme of Ministry of Shipping and It will function as a technology arm of the Ministry of Shipping. The cost for setting up NTCPWC is Rs 70.53 crore. This amount is shared by Ministry of Shipping, IWAI and the Major Ports. NTCPWC will offer indigenous software and technology, and will develop technical guidelines and standards and work towards modernization of Indian ports. Launched by: Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti at Village Bhikampura, in Rajasthan. What is Swajal Project: Swajal is a community owned drinking water programme for sustained drinking water supply. 90% of the project cost will be provided by Central Government while remaining 10% of the project cost will be contributed by the local community. Fund of Rs. 54.17 lakh has been allocated for Swajal Project at Bhikampura. Under the Swajal Project, four reservoirs will be constructed in the village and common tap connection will be given to all the households. Q4. Health-cum-life insurance scheme for farmers? Announcement made by: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao He announced health-cum-life insurance scheme of Rs.5 lac for farmers in the state. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has raised the exposure limit under the exchange traded currency derivatives (ETCD) for residents and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) to USD 100 million across all currency pairs. Earlier this exposure limit set by RBI was USD 15 million for USD-INR contracts and USD 5 million for other currency pairs. As of now, four currency pairs, viz. USD/INR, EUR/INR (Euro), GBP/INR (Great British Pound) and JPY/INR (Japanese Yen) are traded on Indian exchanges.

RISE- Revitalising Infrastructure and Systems in Education (RISE) scheme. 23 IITs will get 25 % of govt loans for higher education institutes under this scheme. Announced by, Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley during Union Budget 2018 speech, RISE scheme with a fund allocation of Rs 100000 crore. Under this scheme, all centrally-funded institutes (CFIs) can borrow funds from the corpus over the next four years to expand and build new infrastructure.
