Consumer unitsThe new consumer unit range from CED

The new Consumer Unit range from CED has been designed with the specifier, installer and user in mind.

Enclosures and devices are coordinated to provide comprehensive circuit protection solutions, ease of installation with a stylish contemporary design to integrate within any home.

For further protection the range includes:-

n High Integrity Dual RCD Split Load Unitsn Split Load Unitsn Main Switch Unitsn Garage Units, Shower Unitsn RCD Units, MCB, RCD & RCBO

To ensure protection on all circuits and to aid usability for all, CED has taken into consideration the need of RNIB and the on - off symbols are now embossed into each unit.

Including 17th Edition High Integrity Split Load Units

From the inception of the design, CED have worked closely with contractors and electricians, to offer the homeowner products that not only provide safety and peace of mind, but that are easy to use and pleasing on the eye.

n RCD protection (will disconnect the protected circuits whenever it detects current leaking from the circuits)

n Safe and secure n MCB, RCD, RCBO to suit most combinationsn Supplied with kit, contains - Pre-printed circuit designations

CED Consumer Units and the 17th Edition

Under the 17th edition wiring regulations (from January 2008) the following will apply to all domestic and residential installations.

1. All socket outlets should be protected by 30mA RCD whether on ground floor of a house or the top floor of high rise apartment block.2. All circuits in a room with a fixed bath or shower should be protected by one or more 30mA RCD’s.2. All cables concealed in metal stud partitions (common in new build) should be protected by 30mA RCD’s.3. All cables buried beneath the plaster surface of a wall or partition (at less than 50mm) should be protected by 30mA RCD’s.4. Installations should be divided up into circuits so as to take account of danger and inconvenience caused by a single fault - e.g. such as a lighting circuit.4. Installations should be designed and arranged so as to prevent unwanted tripping of the RCD’s.

Note: Additional protection is provided as additional protection. It does not obviate the need for circuit protection by circuit breakers or fuses.1. Regulation 411.3.3 socket outlets with rated current not exceeding 20A that are for general use by ordinary persons.2. Regulation 701.411.3.3 Additional protection shall be provided for all circuits of the location by use of one or more 30mA RCD.3. Regulations 522.6.6 522.6.7 522.6.8 cables concealed in a wall or partition at less than 50mm depth and without earthed mechanical protection e.g. conduit.4. Regulation 314.1 Every installation shall be divided into circuits as necessary to avoid danger and inconvenience in the event of a fault. Take account of danger that may arise from failure of a single such as a lighting circuit, reduce the possibility of unwanted tripping of RCD etc.4. Regulation 314.2 Separate circuits to be provided for parts of the installation that need to be separately controlled in such a way that those circuits are not affected by the failure of other circuits.
