What is it and How long…

• Medical Transcription is the transcribing of dictated recordings made by physicians and other healthcare providers.

• The projected time to complete the course requirements is 30 credit hours.

• Although certification is not required, you will be ready to take a certification test or go directly to work as a medical transcriptionist.

• CertificationThe Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI)

• Offers 2 voluntary certifications• Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT)

• Fewer than two years experience• Recent graduate• Re-certify every three years• Earn continuing education credits

• Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT)• Two plus years of experience in acute care • Has used many different types of dictation• Re-certify every three years

• Certification is a mark of quality and professionalism• It is an indication of dedication to continuing education

Salary Ranges…

• A medical transcriptionist can make between $13.00 to $21.00 an hour

• Some are paid by the page or by the number of lines• Employed by a transcription business

• Salary set up on production• Benefits

• Self-employed contractor• Salary may still be set but you can possibly make more • Have freedom to work in your pajama’s • Freedom to work at any time you want• No benefits
