DİYARBAKIR CITY WALLSThe old town surrounded by great walls of black basalt stone, naturally attracts most of the tourists.

Turbot shaped city walls has 5.5 km length and 10-12 m. height.

Diyarbakır Castle was built at the west end of Tigris River, on a large basalt plateau extending to Karacadağ.

The length of the castle is approximately 5.700 meters, height of city walls is 10-12 meters, and thickness varies between 3-5 meters.

TEN ARCHES BRIDGE-TIGRIS BRIDGE

The bridge was built during the reign of Mervanoğulları between 1065 and 1067.

The bridge is classified as multi-arches and plain floored bridges.

It is quite long since the river bed is quide wide and thus a smooth floor was formed.

DİYARBAKIR VE ŞANLIURFA’DAKİ TARİHİ VE KÜLTÜREL MİRAS

Kalkan balığı şeklinde surlar yaklaşık 5 km. uzunluğunda olup yüksekliği 10-12 metre ve genişliği 3,5 metredir. Kuzeyde Dağ kapı, güneyde Mardin Kapı, doğuda Yenikapı, batıda Urfa Kapı olarak adlandırılan “kapılar “baktıkları yöndeki komşu şehrin adlarını almıştır ve her kapı iki yanına yapılan burçlarla korunmuştur. Burçların en önemlileri Yedi Kardeş Burcu (Ben-u Sen Burcu), Evli Beden Burcu (Ulu Beden Burcu), Keçi Burcu, Nur Burcu’dur.

It is estimated that Urfa Castle has been established in 9500 B.C. and on a Neolithic tumulus.The two columns on the castle was built in 240-242 A.D. as a memorial column.

GÖBEKLİ TEPE- WORLD FIRST TEMPLE

The archeological researches performed in the city prove that there had been a settled life in the region dating back to 12.000 years ago. 

Approximately 12.000 years ago, the area of land between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers was the site of the most important change in the history of mankind.

12.000 years old, the oldest temple on the earth found out in Göbeklitepe which is 20 kms far from the city center.

HARRAN

Harran is the central city of Sabii belief in which planets were considered as sacred.

It has a distinct architectural feature with its dome houses.

The Late Roman (4th-5th century AD) ancient city of Suayb, 38 km from Harran, is known as the Ephesus of Southeast Anatolia due to its similar architecture. The city had typical Roman houses, with triangular gables (pediments), roofs and walled courtyards The ancient city of Sogmatar,

15 km from Suayb, also dates back to the Roman period (2nd century AD). This was a cult centre where, during the reign of King Abgar, the people of Harran worshipped the gods of the moon and the planets.
