Current membership is estimatedto be 25000 to 10000. The recent

“million man march” drew several

thousand men



Nation of Islam

Almost entirely African-American inthe U.S. They often focus againstthe Caucasian race and anti-Semitic

Anti-Christian Distinctive in dress (head coverings

for women and community-

oriented). Some NOI members wearthe traditional white cotton gown-like dress (men and women)



NOI-Background

NOI was created by Wallace Fard(Wallace Fard Muhammad) whoclaimed to come from the Islamiccity of Mecca.

He established a mosque inDetroit in 1930.

He preached against the “slave-master’s religion”, that isChristianity



NOI-Background

Fard mysteriously disappeared in 1934and was succeeded by ElijahMuhammad (Elijah Poole).

Malcolm Little became the NOI

spokesperson for Elijah Muhammadand changed his name to Malcolm X.

Malcolm X fell out of favor due toinappropriate remarks related toPresident Kennedy’s assassination andaccusing Muhammad of reportedsexual misconduct



NOI-Background

Malcom X began the Muslim Mosque in1964 but was himself assasinated.

Warith Muhammad became the leaderof the NOI after his father Elijah

Muhammad died in 1975. He beganteaching that Fard was not Allah. Hetaught conventional Muslim beliefs andchanged its name to the World

Community of Islam and later American Muslim Mission. It eventuallydisbanded.



NOI-Farrakhan

Louis Farrakhan was originally anentertainer but joined the NOI. He leftthe NOI in 1978 because of doctrinalissues.

He formed a splinter group under theNOI banner and reestablished theteachings of Elijah Muhammad andalso restarted the movement’s security

force (Fruit of Islam)

Their teacings are not compatible withChristiantity as well as traditional Islam.

God is a man (Fard was Allah in physical form)

Scripture Authority

Claims the Bible holds some value andthat Christ was actually a Muslim. Theyclaim the Bible was corrupted. They deny

most of its teaching. They stated the torah was Holy until the

Jews and Christians tampered with it.

Elijah Muhammad’s “Message to theBlackman in America” is the primarydocument for instruction.



Scripture Authority

They also teach that the Koran wastampered with and therefore it is notauthoritative.

Our response: The Bible is the infallableword of God and it has been proven overand over as trustworthy.



Who is God? NOI claims God is a man, “God is a man and we just

cannot make Him other than man” - MTTB, page 6 Fard was Allah in physical form- MTTB-page 17

The NOI continue to teach that Fard is Allah- who hasbeen missing since the 1930s.

The NOI believe that Christians worship an “invisiblespook somewhere in space”. MTTB page 5

Our response: God is spirit. Jesus was coequal with theFather and the Spirit. God had no creation, he has

always existed and is responsible for all creation.



Who was Jesus?

Jesus is the false belief of the Christians. Hewas a prophet who was pointing to ElijahMuhammad. Jesus was not the God-man, notthe Messiah, not the means of our salvation

Our response: Jesus is the Alpha and theOmega, the Prince of Peace, WonderfulCounselor, Prince of Peace, Heavenly Father,

Wonderful Counselor, the Living Word. He was,is, and is to come. No other historical figurehas died and been resurrected to eternal life.He has proven himself to be true.



Who is the Holy Spirit?

The deity of the Holy Spirit isdenied.



How are we saved?

Strict adherence to the NOI beliefs.



Who is Man?

Blacks are gods, whites are demons

Blacks are of the same race as God

The Black race was self-created. Black scientistscreated white man. MTTB-page 42

A black scientist created the moon. 66 trillion yearsago he attempted to blow up the earth, in doing so hesplit off the moon

Whites were created by Yakub about 6000 years ago.MTTB- page 51. The Bible clearly teaches that thewhite race is a race of devils (page 23) and wascreated to mislead Blacks

White race is only 6000 years old- bad scientist’s idea



Who is Man?

Our response: All of mankind have been created byGod. All men were created in God’s image.

God wants all men to love one another- not toseparate themselves based on skin color or any other

factor God created all things through his son Jesus Christ



The Resurrection

The NOI denies the phyiscal resurrection of thedead. Their doctrinal statement says, “We believein the resurrection of the dead--not in physicalresurrection-- but in mental resurrection,

therefore they will be resurrected first” Final call-7/16/96.

Even so, they apparently believe that ElijahMuhammad is still alive. The newspaper alwayscarries his picture and states, “He lives”

Our response:The Bible teaches physicalresurrection of the dead. There is a heaven and a

hell.



Last Days

The NOI believes that a giant spacecraft- the MotherPlane- will carry out Allah’s judgement. Black scientistswill use the same bombs that tried to explode the

earth to destroy the white race- Final Call-7/16/96. Judgement will fall on Christianity and the white race

Christ was not a Christian but a muslim- MTTB page22.

Louis Farrakhan claims to have been aboard thespacecraft in a vision and met with Elijah Muhammad.He also claims the craft follows him when he travels



Last Days Our response: God is not a spaceship. Christ will

return following the rapture. There will be Armageddon following a time of great tribulation

Believers will be rewarded for their lives at the

judgement seat of Christ Unbelievers will suffer physical and then eternal death

following judgement

God will reign with his children in a new heaven and

new earth

Sin will be no more, death will be destroyed

He stirs up the masses of Negroes

Stopping his teaching would result in race riots

Quotes from MTTB Christians refer to God as a Mystery and a Spirit and divide Him

into thirds…one part Father, another part Son, and third part

they call Holy Ghost- which makes the three, one. This iscontrary to both nature and mathematics.- page 1

Quotes from MTTB He pointed out a destructive-dreadful looking plane that is

made like a wheel in the sky today. ..it is a humanly built plant.

It is up there and can be seen twice a week; it is no secret.Ezekiel saw it a long time ago and was built for the purpose of destroying the present wold, page 17-18.

Surely, if the Father of two peoples, black and white, were the

same, the two would love each other because they are of thesame flesh and blood, page 24.

They must get away from the old slave teaching that Jesus.. Isstill still alive somewhere waiting and listening to their prayers,

page 26 Islam teaches an eternal heaven for the righteous, for hell is

not eternal. These (heaven and hell) are not necessary placesbut conditions. Page 76.



Quotes from MTTB The Bible does not claim God to be its author. Where do we

find in the Bible that it was given to Moses by Jehovah under

such name as Bible or the BooK? Page 86.

The Bible is like a rattlesnake in the hands of my people, forthey do not understand it. Page 87

Witnessing to NOI

Have a clear understanding of what membersof the NOI believe

Have a good understanding of what the Bibleteaches about creation, who God is, God’s planfor mankind, and why the Bible is true

Ask why they joined the NOI- listen for thereasons. It may be for social or racial reasons

The NOI are taught to distrust all whites and allChristians. It would be easier for an African-

American Christian to communicate with a NOI

member



Witnessing to the NOI

Define all terms, remember they have a fardifferent idea about who God is than you.

Tell them about Jesus. Most will have heardabout Him but would not know who He reallyis.

They are taught to distrust all Christians, youmay have to repeatedly witness to them to geta breakthrough.
