PROFILECuan was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Samancor Chrome Limited from May 2005 to July 2016, the world’s largest integrated Chrome Mining and Smelting Company, with an executive accountability on Group- and Executive Level, including being responsible for the Group’s Mineral Resources and Exploration programmes from 2010 to 2013. He is also a member of the Samancor Chrome Leadership

Team. He has a direct reporting line to the CEO of the Samancor Chrome Group. Cuan is also member of the Corporate Employment Equity Committee of Samancor Chrome.

Cuan was also the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African SAP User Group (AFSUG) for the 5 year term (2009 to 2014).

Appointed by the Board of Directors, Cuan currently, serves on IEMAS Financial Services Board of Directors' Information Technology Advisory Committee. A Position he has held since October 2011.

Kloppers is Geologist and a Registered Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat), and completed the Executive Development Programme (EDP) obtained at UNISA’s School for Business Leadership.

Cuan has over 25 years of experience of which the last 15 years was on Senior Management and Executive Level.

Cuan is also an International Certified SAP Consultant in both Functional and Solution Management areas, including Value Engineering as well as a Certified Quality Systems Auditor.

He is also certified in Principles and Practices of World-class Corporate Governance, including King III, the new Companies Act, GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance).

Three ferrochrome plants and two chrome ore mining complexes operate as separate business units in different locations in South Africa: Western Chrome Mines in the Rustenburg area in the North West Province. Eastern Chrome Mines near the Lydenburg /Steelpoort area of the Limpopo Province. Ferrometals near eMalahleni, Mpumalanga Province. Middelburg Ferrochrome near Middelburg, Mpumalanga Province. Tubatse Ferrochrome in the Lydenburg / Steelpoort area of the Limpopo Province.

Cuan was headhunted and appointed by BHPBilliton (and the then Chrome Division) to lead the migration and subsequent transformation of Samancor Chrome Information management solutions and applications, shared services, including re-implemented business processes – and systems landscape, including SAP to an independent environment away from BHP Billiton.

Thus, following his appointment in September 2004 and the subsequent divestment of Samancor Chrome from BHPBilliton in May 2005, he lead the re-implementation of the total SAP R/3, and established a very successful Business Systems architecture and – Centralized Group Business Systems Department, re-established and implemented all the previously BHPBilliton support shared services and business processes as well as an blended support agreement with Deloitte within a record time when Samancor Chrome was sold by BHP Billiton.

The business requirement and executive mandate was clear: (1) Zero Risk; (2) Business as usual and (3) total independence. The resulting benefit realization for Samancor Chrome was primary in that the total Business Systems and SAP Solution was established with a “Zero Risk - business as usual” approach without compromising any ERP data integrity and transactional history (in total 3 years), with a total reduction of operating Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of 45 % and an increase of SAP operational efficiency and performance. This is regarded as an industry benchmark.

Following a Board decision in 2008 (with the global shareholders) – a full fiscal year conversion was successfully done on SAP R/3 V7.5 at all the 6 Business Units and Corporate Office. This was a very unique project and was a first in South Africa. Deloitte Consulting and SAP AG SLO was involved in this huge success.

Under Cuan’s leadership, Samancor upgraded it’s SAP Financial and Logistics environment in 2009 to SAP ERP 6 and implemented wall-to-wall SAP HR; Time management and Payroll in a separate environment on SAP ERP6. The SAP HR Time Management solution integrated with 3 different Time and Attendance (clocking) systems at all the mines and smelters and are the basis for all the payrolls at the 6 Business Units

With Samancor Chrome becoming mature in SAP transactional processes, Cuan embarked on a new journey in 2010 to take the business to the next level of enabling business drivers, performance

management and decision making through Business Intelligence. Samancor Chrome utilized SAP BI as an executive reporting tool and subsequently upgraded to SAP BI7. During 2014 and 2015 SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation was implemented in three phases. During 2015 SAP BI and BPC was migrated to SAP HANA on BI.

Cuan’s focus and strategic initiative since 2010 was also to take IT Operations to the next level of Information Delivery maturity (from Level 2: cost effective to level 4: information technology to give a competitive advantage for the business. This lead to a detailed Enterprise Architecture assessment and subsequent maturity transformation, through three (3) Strategic Objectives (1) Standardization all Business Processes, IT platforms and Applications (2) Consolidation of the total Enterprise Architecture, including Applications and (3) The Establishment of Enterprise Collaboration (wall-to-wall implementation of Sharepoint as the Samancor Chrome Enterprise Portal (ChromeNET). Leading the Mineral Resource Throughput Management Strategy and programme Cuan lead the Mineral Resource Throughput Management Programme with the assistance of a team of 2 highly specialized and senior consultants and 4 Mine Managers at Eastern Chrome Mines.This is an integrated mining approach based on the Master Course (MSc) at the University of the Free State. The main purpose is managing the mineral ore body from source to product and the principles used in the discipline is based on the well-known “Theory of Constraints” principles as define by Eli Goldratt.The main objectives is to determine the relevant facts from a flow perspective for each operation, those facts are: Determine the capacity constraint(s) Understand the resource(s) variation and the impact of those variances on the operation What resource dependencies exist and how does it impact the flow The logical constraints impose by the resources and the dependencies impose on the flow Determine the level of fragmented decision making based on balanced capacity type operations

Solutions are crafted to address each of those facts in order to improve the material flow and quality of the product in order to EBIT and EBIT growth of the operation

The business objective and subsequent achievement of this project was to:1. Unlock the productive mining capacity of the current operation, i.e. increase the current ROM

tonnage as plant feed by at least 20% through the application of flow techniques2. Unlock the plant beneficiation potential of the current operation by implementing flow

principles in the mining value chain by increasing the current product tonnages by at least 20%. Standardisation and consolidation of Mine Technical Systems and Geological Modelling

Applications throughout the Group Establishment of a successful Geology succession strategy as well as a new bursary scheme

Key Responsibilities:Cuan was headhunted and appointed by BHPBilliton and the (then Chrome Division) to lead the migration and subsequent transformation of Samancor Chrome Information management solutions and applications, shared services, including re-implemented business processes – and systems landscape, including SAP to an independent environment away from BHP Billiton.

Thus, following his appointment in September 2004 and the subsequent divestment of Samancor Chrome from BHPBilliton in May 2005, he lead the re-implementation of the total SAP R/3, and established a very successful Business Systems architecture and – Centralized Group Business Systems Department, re-established and implemented all the previously BHPBilliton support shared services and business processes as well as an blended support agreement with Deloitte within a record time when Samancor Chrome was sold by BHP Billiton.

Key Achievements:Successfully migrated BHPBilliton GSAP and Re-implemented SAP R/3 (called "ChromeSAP") for Samancor Chrome and established a very successful Business Systems architecture and – Centralized Group Business Systems Department as well as a blended support agreement with Deloitte when Samancor Chrome was sold by BHP Billiton.The business requirement and executive mandate was clear: (1) Zero Risk; (2) Business as usual and (3) total independence. The resulting benefit realization for Samancor Chrome was primary in that the total Business Systems and SAP Solution was established with a “Zero Risk - business as usual” approach without compromising any ERP data integrity and transactional history (in total 3 years), with a total reduction of operating Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of 45 % and an increase of SAP operational efficiency and performance. This is regarded as an industry benchmark
