ARDUINO EDUCATION

REDEFINING THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE, ONE CLASSROOM AT A TIME.

Arduino has become much more than just a tool for making, tinkering, and exploring physical and digital interaction, but an entire ecosystem supporting students across all disciplines. Arduino Education is committed to empowering educators with the necessary hardware and software tools to create a more hands-on, innovative learning experience.

“Back in 2012, I was given the challenge of bringing project-based learning to my first group of upper secondary schools in Spain. I realized at the time that almost no one was addressing the needs of teachers when introducing curriculum. Therefore, I decided that we had to put educators at the center of our concept and help them find creative ways for using technology. CTC is not just about making interesting projects with students, it is also about getting acquainted with developing technologies and new methods of teaching.” - David Cuartielles, Arduino co-founder

That’s why we developed CTC, which officially became an Arduino Education product in 2016.

CTC TESTIMONIALS

CTC has been proven to boost creativity, collaboration skills and problem-solving competencies, with a satisfaction rate of 99% among both educators and students.

"CTC is one of our best examples of educational activities and makes us especially proud on account

of its potential for teacher training, student motivation, and transformation of the society in which

we live."

Javier Hidalgo, Head of Exhibitions and Programmes, la Caixa Foundation

“I really liked to create a game from scratch that people can play and enjoy.”

Student, CTC Barcelona, Spain

“It was new, interesting and educational. The students appreciated Arduino, and the interest is wide

among students and teachers alike.”

Teacher, CTC Kreatech, Skåne Sweden

"If there is an essential factor that distinguishes technology from other subjects of secondary

education, it’s objects’ analysis and construction. In this sense, the CTC Cataluña project represents an

opportunity to broadly fulfill this objective, to guide project-based learning, to encourage teamwork

and, at the same time, maximize the creativity of students. It is an excellent initiative that brings extra

value to secondary education. "

Joan Nivera Roig, Professor of Technology, Institut de Tecnificació, Amposta, Spain

"[CTC] It's a great way to get started with programming, electronics, and automation — this program

is so entertaining and fun that it does not seem like you're taking a class — all classes should be as

interactive and constructive just like these!”

Joel Borja Tomàs, Student, Institut de Tecnificació, Amposta, Spain

"The CTC program, through its didactic proposal based on creative technologies, has provided

important input to learning through problem solving, and the application of computational thinking

and teamwork, key aspects for the development and achievement of key competences for the citizen

of 21st century, among which is there is also how learning to learn. "

CTC FAQ

WHAT DOES THE CTC PROGRAM INCLUDE?

CTC consists of five modules or blocks covering various topics. The CTC program is a toolbox comprised of more than 25 hands-on and easily assembled electronic projects, an online source for course materials, documentation tools, content specific reference sections, and professional support services.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE FULL CTC PROGRAM?

CTC is flexible and can be planned to suit the needs of the participating schools. The recommended length of the program is approximately 19 weeks (a semester), including teachers’ training, though it can be delivered to students at the educator's own pace. The core themed modules have a duration of 10 weeks, with 9 weeks of students’ project work.

The last day of the program is dedicated to students’ final exhibition. During the final exhibition, or Technology Fair, students get a chance to showcase their work to the community and get some feedback on their projects.

IS TRAINING INCLUDED?

The general design of the CTC program provides 20 hours of training for the educators. This will be done online, and through a combination of recorded lectures, support materials, and Q&A forums. There will also be the option of joining live webinars that will be pre-scheduled every other week.

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN USE ONE KIT?

The kit is designed to allow one entire class to be split into six groups and work with the material in a project-based manner. The groups are meant to pick one project each per themed block, something they find interesting to start building together.

17ARDUINO EDUCATION

ARDUINO.CC/EDUCATION

HOW MANY BOARDS ARE IN A KIT?

There are six boards in the CTC kit.

CAN A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION OR COMMUNITY GROUP RUN THE PROGRAM?

The CTC project is aimed at schools, but any group interested in bringing STEAM disciplines to young learners can take part as long as the terms and conditions are agreed upon.

HOW CAN TEACHERS INCORPORATE CTC INTO THEIR SCHOOL CURRICULUM?

We recommend implementing CTC work with a cross-curricular approach. As there might be some subjects that are more relevant within different classes. CTC provides the flexibility to

be easily adapted into more theoretical or practical subjects—not just limited to technology, mathematics, and physics, but art, woodworking, sewing, civics, English, etc. as well..

HOW DO I GAIN CONFIDENCE IN TEACHING CTC?

Many people, including teachers, are hesitant to step into and explore unknown territories. It is more comfortable to stick to the lesson plans that they put together and become familiar with

over the years. CTC learning materials, with their emphasis on easy-to-read instructions and hands-on approach, encourage instructors to embrace the possibilities of collaborative learning.

FOR WHAT AGES ARE THE ACTIVITIES BEST SUITED?

We recommend that participants are at least 13 years old. On the other hand, there is no age limit—you are never too old to learn!

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS IN THE CLASSROOM?

Participating schools should have student access to computers with Internet, a dedicated room that can function as a workshop (or at least a room with tables to work on), as well as common

accessories such as pens, scissors, sticky tape, etc.
