Introduction 3
CEP08028: March 2009
Purpose of this document
This supplementary report to the CEP buyers’ guide to multislice CT scanners [1] provides comparative specifications of CT scanners that are capable of acquiringmore than 64 slices. In this category the number of slices is generally considered inconjunction with the length of coverage. These are specialist scanners primarilyaimed at cardiac or perfusion imaging, and length of coverage along the z-axis is ofparticular importance for these studies. A greater number of slices may mean longercoverage, or may be as a result of a higher slice acquisition density due to thedynamic focal spot.
Comparative specifications are also available for other categories of scanner, asshown below.

The data given in this report are representative of the scanners as of August 2008,and are liable to change. Features such as workstations and software packages maybe listed as cost options here, but such additional costs are generally negotiable.
Specifications are presented side-by-side to facilitate comparison, and grouped into a
series of topics relating to different aspects of the scanner, such as gantry, tube and

It is not possible to accurately predict "The lifespan" of some components such as X-ray tubes as there are tgoverning their usage, for example - the number, type and frequency of examination procedures carried out, t
made, the parameters selected for those exposures, the intervals between exposures, etc. all factors which artime. However based on average usage and historical data X-ray tube should typically have a life span of 3 ye
