Unparalleled in community welfare promotion

Education Opened 200 schools to provide education to 122000 children In addition supports other public schools

Health Over 2 million people served by SAIL hospitals 19 in number (including 4 superspeciality) 39 primary health centres 18 reproductive and child health centres

Other Initiatives Access to potable drinking water to 100000 persons every year Construction of 40 kms of pucca roads every year Support for extending benefits to physically challenged Nurturing young talent through specialized academies promoting sports

Solid waste utilization increased to 75 an improvement of 4

Water consumption reduced to 531 M3tcs an improvement of 5

3 lakh trees planted cumulative plantation - over 135 million trees Restored over 150 acres of degraded mining area at Purnapani under the Delhi University ndashSAIL agreement

Pisciculture has been taken up in the abandoned mining areas at Purnapani and 50000 fishlings released in quarry water

bull Over the years SAIL has established 133 company-run schools that impart quality education to more than 80000 children

bullSAIL provides access to improved sources of drinking water to more than 2 million people

bullMore than 20 million people have benefited from SAILs 20 hospitals four speciality hospitals and numerous primary healthcare centres

bullSAIL has so far covered more than seven lakh people in its AIDS awareness programme since 1999-2000

bullTo promote and help develop smallscale industries around its plants

bullThe company generates orders worth more than Rs 600 crore for ancillary industries annually

bullIn addition the Mahila SamajSamitis in SAIL plantsunits have been working relentlessly for empowerment of women from weaker sections of society by forming self-help groups for income generation

bullSAIL has also created sports facilities at the townships while organising sports activities all over the country in football archery tennis athletics cricket etc Tribal children with sporting talent are also trained at SAILs four sports academies

bullTribal welfare is another thrust area of SAILs CSR activities Bokaro Steel Plant of SAIL has adopted a number of children of the nearly extinct Birhor tribe of Thakurani Bhilai Steel Plant is providing free education with free boarding and lodging to 76 SCST children

bullTo preserve the environment in and around its plantsmines SAIL has planted 135 million trees and is nurturing them As part of the Clean Development Mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol several other projects have been taken up

bullBesides the company regularly afforests areas that are denuded due to mining activities

During the current financial year SAIL has planned to spend nearly Rs 100 crore on CSR activities which inter-alia include -

gt Developing 16 model steel villages in the states of Chhattisgarh West Bengal Orissa Jharkhand Karnataka Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh

gt Setting up a technical university at Chhattisgarh in association with the state government with a contribution of Rs 50 crore

SAIL CSR IN BRIEF

bull Over the years SAIL has established 133 company-run schools that impart quality education to more than 80000 children

bullSAIL provides access to improved sources of drinking water to more than 2 million people

bullMore than 20 million people have benefited from SAILs 20 hospitals four speciality hospitals and numerous primary healthcare centres

bullSAIL has so far covered more than seven lakh people in its AIDS awareness programme since 1999-2000

bullTo promote and help develop smallscale industries around its plants

bullThe company generates orders worth more than Rs 600 crore for ancillary industries annually

bullIn addition the Mahila SamajSamitis in SAIL plantsunits have been working relentlessly for empowerment of women from weaker sections of society by forming self-help groups for income generation

bullSAIL has also created sports facilities at the townships while organising sports activities all over the country in football archery tennis athletics cricket etc Tribal children with sporting talent are also trained at SAILs four sports academies

bullTribal welfare is another thrust area of SAILs CSR activities Bokaro Steel Plant of SAIL has adopted a number of children of the nearly extinct Birhor tribe of Thakurani Bhilai Steel Plant is providing free education with free boarding and lodging to 76 SCST children

bullTo preserve the environment in and around its plantsmines SAIL has planted 135 million trees and is nurturing them As part of the Clean Development Mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol several other projects have been taken up

bullBesides the company regularly afforests areas that are denuded due to mining activities

During the current financial year SAIL has planned to spend nearly Rs 100 crore on CSR activities which inter-alia include -

gt Developing 16 model steel villages in the states of Chhattisgarh West Bengal Orissa Jharkhand Karnataka Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh

gt Setting up a technical university at Chhattisgarh in association with the state government with a contribution of Rs 50 crore
