It’s not all about the network

“Support for today’s complex services requires an end-to-end, real-time business support process that involves interaction with various network technologies, computing capabilities, and external partners or suppliers.

Stratecast, Global CSP Billing Part 1a – 2013 Edition

“ Infonetics, Policy Management Software Analysis, 2nd Ed 2013

… to better monetize these network investments via mechanisms such as service tiers and “turbo” offerings and enable QoS for voice over LTE.

“ GSMA Intelligence, Quarterly Review, June 2013

Those customers that do use LTE services exhibit higher usage levels, prompting operators to develop innovative ways to monetise the increased data traffic and range of value added services.

CONTEXT

XL AXIATA

DEPLOY CSG’S OCS FAILURE GATEWAY FOR ONLINE PROCESSING AT VAST SCALE

• XL Axiata Indonesia is the 3rd largest mobile operator in Indonesia, with over 46 million subscribers

• Were losing revenue due to Online Charging System (OCS) outages, and needed to replace aging legacy mediation systems

• The mediation solution needed to support over eight billion events a day in the first phase, rising to 19 billion once all phases were live.

• The OCS Failure Gateway solution alone needed to process 4.9 terabytes of data a day, approximately the same amount of data held on Wikipedia!

CSG SOLUTION XL BENEFITS

• As ninety nine per cent of XL’s customers are prepaid, eliminating revenue loss due to OCS outages meant a quick return on investment

• Enables XL to meet new regulations on SMS settlement, allowing them to settle with partners terminating traffic on-net

• Further reduces TCO, supporting all online and offline mediation requirements in a single solution, so simplifying XL’s system architecture and back office operations

TSM OCS Failure Gateway Offline Mediation

“XL was looking for a solution that would provide us with better operational management and improve our business processes. We selected CSG on the

basis of their high performance, proven scalability with huge volumes, best-in-class ease of use and in-

region support.” Dian Siswarini, Director of Technology, XL Axiata

Online Charging Offload

Gy CHARGING OFFLOADKeeps counters for bundled charging events reducing the load on rating and balance management, controlling platform costs. Reliable scalability means no revenue is lost as volumes continue to grow.

Scaling Balance Management databases and rating for spiraling mobile data is expensive. Most mobile data events are zero rated or included in a big bundle
