Watershed Technologydevelopment

Rainwater harvesting and their Conservation & Adoption of High Yielding Varieties in rainfed conditions

2005-2008

♣ Erodibility, aggregate stability and Resource characterization of 4 watersheds of Jalaun, Hamirpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur district of Bundelkhand zone and 3 watershed of Kanpur, Hardoi and Fatehpur district of Central Plain zone of Uttar Pradesh.

♣ The rainfed technology developed and adopted in the Ghatampur watershed was found suitable, economically viable and ecologically sustainable in managing the problems of the ravinous watershed of Yamuna river namely; Contour bunding, Land leveling and smoothening, Contour furrowing, Field bunding & leveling, Sunken structures along with Vegetative barriers of Vetiver, Sacchrum munja and Rambans in controlling soil loss & runoff which resulted in an overall increase of 20 – 25 percent in the yield level of crops like; wheat, barley, gram, mustard, linseed, pea, soybean, groundnut, pigeon pea and sorghum in the post project studies.

Technology development

Silvi-medi-culture model

2005-2008

Jatropha and Aonla based agriculture models have been developed under NMPB funded projects as PI

Technology Developed

Developed agro-technology

2004-2007

♣ Developed agro-technology of important medicinal plants viz., Safed musli, Aswagandha, Kalmegh, Tulsi, Milk thistal, Satavar, Isabgoal, Sarpgangh and Stevia etc.

Concept Ex-situ conservation

2004-2005

♣ Ex-situ conservation of 110 Medicinal & Aromatic plants species in Azad Herbal Garden established under Dept of Forestry.

♣ In-situ conservation block were developed in the forest range of mirzapur and chitrakoot distrct to conserve the medicinal and aromatic plants

Methodology Erosional behaviour of soils of Shahpur- Basdev watershed of Distt. Hardoi

2008-2011

Erodibility behaviour found in order of : silvipastoral > agri-horti> cover cropping > vegetative barrier > strip cropping > contour cropping > precision land leveling > bunding > gully plugging > control that warrant prompt attention for effective implementation of various intensive soil conservation measures in the watershed for conservation of natural resources and sustainable production.

Highlights of Salient Research

Screening of Mulberry clones forearly sprouting high foliage yielding clones at CSAUA&T, Kanpur

2010-2015

♣ On the basis of two years observation, early sprouting was seen in the clone S-1635 followed by Kanva-2, S-146 and BC-259 in the nursery. On the basis ofinitial and final evaluation trial, variety S-1635, K-2 and S-146 showed better performance regarding biomass attributing characteristics and mulberry leaves yield as well as foliage quality, quantity and palatability to silkworm so that all these varieties can be utilized as a dual purpose variety for spring as well as autumn season.
