FOR THE INNOVATION AND BIOECONOMY

• The “Consortium for the creation of Biotech-innovative business Incubators – In Bio” was established within the Project “Creation of Innovative Business Incubators in the biotechnology field”, financed by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development.

• In 2012, the Consortium changed its legal status in “private non profit research organization”. • The members of the Consortium are: ENEA (Italian National agency for new technologies, energy and

sustainable economic development), CRS Conoscenza Ricerca Sviluppo S.r.l. (Rome) and Inno AG (Karlsruhe).

IN.BIO ACTIVITIES

The following are some examples of the Consortium activities:

the realization of operative projects through National and International funding;

the promotion of some innovative initiatives (spin off and start up) through feasibilities studies and logistic support;

the evaluation and promotion of technological innovation projects to support production systems.

In 2009, it is now Phenofarm Ltd. and the system is implemented in Scandriglia (Lazio)

November 2009, the first year of the system based on the patent ENEA

Genelab operates the plant in the first oil campaign

June 2010 Genelab leads the educational training of new staff Phenofarm and remains stable consultant for plant optimization and quality control of finished products

Currently Phenofarm produces and markets several products (plant compounds) for use in food and cosmetics

In 2008, the working group Genelab (start up ENEA) won the invitation FILAS business lab with the project "Biophenolive"

Taking advantage of the selective capacities of

the membrane filtration technologies, it is

possible to implement a process innovation for

the optimisation of removal of lactose β-

lactoglobulin from milk, deveoping new milk

products (special milks) in GRANAROLO.

Supporting the demand for Innovation: LA VIALLA Farm

La Vialla Farm is a model enterprise of Italian agro-industrial system, following entire cycle of production, from cultivation, transformation, to product sale of wine, olive oil, milk, wheat, tomatoes, etc.

Research Contract for ENEA for the recovery and valorisation of wastes from olive oil and wine production using membrane technology.

The concentrated fraction rich in polyphenolic compounds recovered can be used as food supplement or in the preparation of new

products for the market.

Innovation for the Public Administration: Natura2000 Net

Natura 2000 network is the main instrument of EU policy for the conservation of biodiversity. ENEA supports regional administrations to ensure the long-term

maintenance of natural habitats of threatened or rare species, facilitating integration with HNVF.

Natura 2000 network Basilicata, consisting of SIC 53 and 17 SPAs to an area equal to 17.1% of the regional area, is an example of participatory ecological network in the area, realized with the support of ENEA.

Conclusions

Strengthen the relationship between public and private to:

• Promote the excellence of research and the value of scientific knowledge

• Transform public administration (not by cutting but semplifying, integrating reasearch programs, decreasing burocracy) to face the present challenges, for which create links between Regions, States, Europe and third countries - Most advanced economies use governments as engins for development -

• Think innovative with a wide strategy to develop actions of technology transfer and to boost innovation.
