Zip Up a Beach TowelCarry your things to the beach or pool, then

unzip & fold out your beach towel! Coats black 

& white dot Fashion Zippers add pizzazz.

4. Fold printed tote fabric in half crosswisemarking the center on the top and bottom of the panel. Center pocket panel on the rightside of the center mark. Pin and baste pocketpanel in place.

Cutting:1 24 ½” x width of towel plus 1”1 8” x 6” print fabric for top pocket panel1 8” x 19” print fabric bottom pocket panel2 3” x towel length plus 6” from strap fabric(piece if necessary)

Instructions:1. To make straps fold in half lengthwise rightsides together. Sew raw edges together leave

an opening for turning. Turn and press seamto side.

2. Sew a 2” piece of the hook side fastenertape to both ends of one strap. Sew the loopside of fastener tape to both ends of theother strap. Set aside.

3. To make pocket press under ½” alongone 8-inch edge of top and bottom pocketpanel pieces. Place the folded edge of the toppocket panel under the Coats Fashion zipperwith the zipper pull facing right. Zipper teethshould extend over the folded edge. Stitchzipper in place down the center of zippertape. Secure the outer edge of the zipper tapewith a row of decorative stitches such as abuttonhole stitch. Repeat with bottom pocketpanel.

5. Press the lower edge and sides of the toteunder ½”. Press under ¼” on tote top. Turnunder another 1”. Press. To finish top edgestitch along outside fold. Make another row of stitching close to the fold making a 1” hem.

6. Strap placement: Place the ends with hook side fastener 2” below tote bottom edge withhook side up. Pin strap over raw edges of pocket panel leaving a loop for the handle.Stitch each side of strap a scant 1/8” fromstrap edge. To secure stitch a crossed squareat the top of the handles.

7. Measure placement of strap over pocketpanel and pin remaining straps in the sameposition on left side of tote extending straps2” below with loop side down. Stitch in place.

8. Place the tote on top of beach towelwrong sides together. Pin along the bottomfolded edge matching folded sides to towelsides. Sew the tote to the towel along the

bottom edge. Lengthen stitch length toaccommodate extra thickness of towel andfabric.

9. Mark center of tote with tailor’s chalk.Stitch down the center of the tote andbeach towel.

10. Baste tote sides to towel sides.

11. Place the bottom of the Coats SeparatingFashion Zipper even with the bottom edge of tote. Pin zipper to the right side of tote andtowel extending zipper teeth off folded edge.At the top pin extra zipper tape between thetote fabric and the towel. Baste in place.

12. Stitch a row of straight stitches downcenter of zipper tape. Secure edge of zippertape with decorative stitches.

13. Unzip and repeat for the other side beingsure to match bottom edges before sewing.

14. To fold tote: Lay towel down with thetote side down and towel up. Fold the bottomof the towel to the line of stitching. Fold upagain. Fold tote in half lengthwise. Closezipper. Fasten hook and loop tape to maketote bottom. You are ready for the beach!
