Dear Mayor Henry

I am following up in respect to the letter dated December 11 2014 regarding the consideration to add a new crossing guard to the Harmony and Rossland Road intersection

As you may recall there was an incident that took place on November 27 2014 which resulted in one of our younger students from Harmony Heights Public School taken to hospital (httpwww du rham reg ion comnews-storv5157 925-ch i ld-i n-serious-con d ition-after -being-hit-byshyveh icle-i n-busy-oshawa-i ntersection) I am pleased to report the student is recovering and doing well however as of March the student had not return to the school The school administration along with the teaching staff has provided tremendous support to empower the student feel connected with the school work and activities

Mayor Henry respectfully I am troubled not to have received an acknowledgment to my initial request I certainly understand and respect your busy portfolio however I would tremendously appreciate if you could let me know whether there is any possibility to have the additional crossing guard added to this intersection in the near future

Our school community continues to grow and while we want our children to become responsible adults we as parents teachers and leaders in the community must ensure there are safeguards that will enable them to walk study play safely within their own community

Current crossing guards are highlighted for you along with the proposed location for the additional guard we are requesting for your reference

Dear Mayor Henry

On behalf of the school community at Harmony Height Public School I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit us at the annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday December 6 2014 This years marked our 101

h year running this event some of our students and their families enjoyed a fun filled breakfast served by you Your interaction with those present and your kind words certainly helped this event a great success

As you may recall I had the opportunity to discuss briefly with you an unfortunate incident which involved one of our young students on Thursday November 27 2014 The family affected is new to our school community and the young child was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Rossland and Harmony the child was airlifted to Sick Kids Hospital and thankfully has returned to the family home to recover from his injuries

While we appreciate that a thorough investigation is taking place regarding this incident on behalf of the entire school community I would like to advocate to you for a crossing guard to be assigned to this busy intersection (Rossland and Harmony) The School Community Council has brought forward this subject in previous years yet the City has failed to provide this type of much needed service

Our school community has grown over the past few years and no doubt it will continue to grow Young families are embracing the City of Oshawa as their new place to live Harmony Heights Public School has embraced the new families and welcomed them to our community We have confirmed that there are approximately 50 children (self-declared) who use the crosswalk at this intersection to attend school With best intentions at heart taking into consideration that we wish to prevent further incidents of this nature we would like to respectfully request that a crossing guard be appointed to the intersection of Harmony and Rossland
