Where is my wallet data? Your wallet passphrase is the means to recover your wallet from any computer. Be sure to write the passphrase down and store it in multiple secure places. Also, write down and store the wallet password!

Mac

/Users/<username>/.electrum-CRYP-tor

On the Mac, open the file explorer window, navigate to your user home (/Users/<username>) and display the hidden files and folders by pressing: SHIFT-COMMAND-PERIOD (the single dot “.”) You should see the hidden folder, .electrum-CRYP-tor

Windows

Using the command window: dir %appdata%\Electrum-CRYP-tor

or explorer: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Electrum-CRYP-tor

If you cannot see your AppData folder under your user home C:\Users\<username>\, then you should open the View tab in the explore and set the view settings to reveal all hidden files. Subsequently, the AppData should appear in the explorer. Below is user realgreen at C:\Users\realgreen. The hidden items box is checked to unhide the directory AppData that is normally hidden by default.

Think about your personal and family safety For high value wallets, whether CRPY or other cryptos, consider not storing the passphrase and wallet password in your home! The passphrase is the key to downloading your own personal bank, however, unlike a bank, there are no security guards in case of robbery or home invasion. Keep enough crypto in another wallet at home for purchases, possibly another for trading. In the event of a home invasion, keep enough at home to lose, but to keep your family safe. Remember, if criminals know you have crypto, then your home might be a target and they might scoff at small amounts. Therefore plan ahead and prepare a wallet with the objective of getting the criminals out of your home without violence. Make a plan for this situation, just in case. Keep you and your family safe.

1. Make a plan about where to keep your crypto wallet passphrases and passwords in multiple places

2. Make a plan for a possible robbery or home invasion 3. Make an estate plan for your family to access your crypto in case of your demise. 4. Visit the CrypticCoin’s CryptoEducation site to learn more. Always keep learning

Tips for protecting yourself against phishing and other hacking

1. Install Anti-virus and ransomware software 2. Use a VPN (also protects against DNS hacks) 3. Chrome browser extensions: install multiple software extensions that will warn you about sites

and links, even twitter accounts and posts: MetaMask, EtherAddressLookup, Metacert (also Twitter), Ghostery

4. Use a password manager e.g. Dashlane 5. Protect your trading accounts with 2FA. Google Authenticator, Authy (desktop, mobile) 6. Use cold storage hardware for supported cryptos e.g. Ledger Nano s, Trezor 7. Educate yourself about the latest crypto security issues and recommendations. Keep learning.

Uninstalling the wallet software

Your wallet passphrase is the means to recover your wallet.

Uninstall the Electrum lite-wallet (WIN) This is the normal option. If you have expertise and wish to remove the Tor service, see that option below.

From the either the start menu, choose electrum uninstall or open an explorer window and navigate to C:\Program Files (86)\Electrum-CRYP or C:\Program Files\Electrum-CRYP and run uninstall.exe

The uninstall does not delete your wallet data, however, you will lose the wallet configuration info, including contacts, etc. if you plan to reinstall your wallet software, then it is not necessary to delete your wallet data. If you wish to delete the wallet data directory, then please see the section “Where is my wallet”. However, be sure your passphrase is written and secure in case you wish to restore your wallet on another computer.

Removing the Windows TOR service if you have installed another crypto Electrum wallet using Tor such as electrum-svg, please be sure that you do not delete the Tor service and the Tor libraries used by this other Electrum wallet. You will need to check the Window services panel and determine which library path is used by the Tor service.

If you decide to remove the Tor service, then open a command window as administrator and

Type cmd in the search box and right-click to view

run as administrator as shown in the screenshot.

In the command window, type:

SC stop tor (stops the tor service if running)

SC delete tor (deletes the tor service)

Ignore any errors, it’s possible that the TOR service was already stopped or it was was already deleted.

Uninstall the Electrum lite-wallet (MAC)

Be sure to save your secret passphrase of your wallet, if you need to recover your wallet from another computer, then recover the wallet with this passphrase.

To uninstall, drag both the Electrum CRYP application and the Electrum CRYP folder (it contains the TOR startup file) to the trash bin and, of course, empty the trash to prevent odd behaviors later.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if I see a message saying that I’m offline? (WIN)

When starting up the wallet software on Windows, some computers show a message that you are offline and then you’ll see a RED onion on the lower right of the wallet interface. Ensure that the computer is online and reboot the computer. In some cases, the computer was previously connected by both WIFI and ethernet connection. Be sure that only one is running: your ethernet connection or your WIFI connection. Reboot your computer after any changes.

Connection Problems – The RED Onion (Windows) Connection problems can occur with Win8.1, Win10, but not Win7 by the same users.

Is there a firewall running locally on your computer or on your provider? Does your country block particular ports?

Tricks to try: 1. Download and open the TOR browser, and try connecting to a familiar site. 2. Start the wallet after the TOR browser is running ok. 3. Hopefully you will see the GREEN onion (wallet bottom right) 4. If the onion is still RED, then adjust the connection settings by clicking on the onion or choosing the network settings in the menu. Try changing the server address and/or setting a proxy. These are a few variables to play with. Please tell us what works for you and your country.

Experiment (1): we used step #1-4 and then shut off the TOR browser, next the wallet showed RED onion and would not connect. The TOR browser was restarted and then the GREEN onion appeared. Note: the tester had also changed the connection settings (non-default server and set the proxy)

Experiment (2): changing the server back to the default resulted in a RED onion. Note, this happens with two testers from India.

Conclusion: Connection fixes include installing and running a TOR browser and possibly changing the connection settings to us an alternative server or possibly the proxy setting. Users should experiment with these factors.

My wallet does not display anything new, I was expecting a new CRYP transaction!

If the onion is GREEN, it is possible that the wallet is unresponsive and should be closed and restarted. With an early lite wallet version, a tester left the wallet open for a few hours and the wallet became unresponsive to receiving new wallet notifications. Possibly the computer slept and caused this problem, restarting the wallet software resolved the problem.
