This campaign has been all about supporting Red Cross services, including disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid and CPR training and disaster preparedness information for our community. Meet our Heroes for the Red Cross

For the past several weeks, a group of local “Heroes” has worked tirelessly to help the Red Cross continue its services in the Northwest Georgia area (which includes Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker and Whitfield Counties). For more than 97 years, volunteers with the Northwest Georgia Chapter have been heroes to thousands of people throughout our area, lending aid during times of disaster, supporting military families and training citizens in lifesaving CPR and first aid skills.

“Heroes for the American Red Cross” has been a wonderful, grassroots campaign raising over $75,000 to support our neighbors over the past three years!

Responding to Everyday Disasters

Over the past week, storms have left a wide swath of damage, devastation and despair from the Great Plains to the GulfCoast and across the Mid-Atlantic. The Red Cross has been there every day to help – and our work is really just beginning.

SPRING TORNADOES AND STORMS - Red Cross Relief Efforts ContinueFollowing last week’s far-ranging and destructive storms, the American Red Cross continues providing comfort and hope to thousands of people in affected communities across 14states from the Midwest and South to the East Coast.

Tornadoes, floods and other severe weather resulting from the slow-moving storm system caused widespread damage, as high winds ripped apart homes and rising waters floodedneighborhoods. Early estimates show about 2,500 homes across eight states were destroyed or heavily damaged. In response, the Red Cross has mounted relief efforts in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina,Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Dedicated Red Cross workers are providing food, relief supplies, health services and emotional support for families and communities traumatized by tornadoes, storms and floodwaters.

And as people began the monumental task of recovery, the Red Cross is distributing relief supplies such brooms, buckets, gloves, shovels, rakes and tarps throughout many affected communities to support cleanup efforts.

In Arkansas, the Red Cross is providing meals and is distributing cleanup items in the hardest hit areas. With such widespread

damage, volunteers are connecting with and supporting new people in need of Red Cross assistance every day. A Multi-Agency Resource Center is open thisweekend in Conway where people can get help. Three emergency aid stations are also open where people can get a hot meal, pick up relief items, and connect with Red Crosshealth services and emotional support teams.

Similar relief efforts continue across other impacted states, as emergency relief stations and response vehicles deliver desperately needed nourishing meals, cleanup supplies andwater, while Multi-Agency Resource Centers are now open in many affected areas.
