Why are we here? Why did we move tothis part of the world and what are wedoing? I was reminded of the answer thismorning while working on the Bibletranslation of Luke 4 in the Gurbet, Arli andChergash languages. In verse 18 Jesusdescribes his mission, including the words, “hehas anointed me to proclaim good news to thepoor. “ Christ came to announce good news tothe needy and has sent us to do the same.

Good news is what is needed worldwide,including in our little corner of the globein Croatia (and Serbia), whichever words areused to express it (see these examples):* εὐαγγελίσασθαι (original Greek) (”to-proclaim-good-news”)* te anav šukar haberia” (Arli) (”that I proclaim good message”)* te abav bahtali nevimata (Chergash) (“that I bring joyful news”)* te vačarav o Lačho lafi” (Gurbet) (”that I speak the Good word”)

We’re so grateful for how well everything hasgone with our move from Hungary to Croatia.The kids did well navigating the transition andconstantly living with packing boxes around.

They each helped out byunpacking, making meals,assembling things, etc.It was fun to explore ournew town, learning wherethe supermarkets, shops,stores and Croatian fastfood joints are.
