WHAT IS CSR??
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IS THE CONTINUING COMMITMENT BY BUSINESS TO BEHAVE ETHICALLY AND CONTRIBUTE TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WHILE IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE WORKFORCE AND THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL AS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND SOCIETY AT LARGE
CSR ACTIVITIES OF BGMEA BGMEA runs 12 Health Centers. BGMEA operates five schools for the workers children BGMEA has started food rationing program. Runs skill development programs. Provides arbitration facilities. BGMEA worker fairs annually. Building Code has been made mandatory for all member
units. Conduct regular fire drills and fire safety training program. The Group Insurance.
BGMEA HEALTH CENTERS BGMEA runs 12 Health Centers. provides healthcare facilities and medicines to
more than 60,000 garment workers per year at free of cost.
The centers also provide awareness program on HIV/ AIDS, tuberculosis, reproductive health.
Besides, for RMG workers, a full-fledged hospital is operational in Chittagong, and a 100-bed hospital in Dhaka is under construction.
BGMEA OPERATES FIVE SCHOOLS
BGMEA runs five schools for workers’ children. provides books, study materials and stipends to the
meritorious students.
BGMEA HAS STARTED FOOD RATIONING PROGRAM.
BGMEA has started food rationing program for workers in August 2009.
Under the programed, each worker will get five kilograms of rice a week at Tk 16 a kg.
Each worker will be able to buy no more than 20 kg a month. some 651,271 workers of 758 readymade garment factories has
come under food rationing at the initial stage.
RUNS SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.
BGMEA Runs skill development programs for the garment industry. 34 training centers in different regions of the country. The “Better Work Program” with ILO is underway for its operation in
Bangladesh.
BGMEA WORKER FAIRS ANNUALLY.
• BGMEA organizes Workers Fair annually.• It also organized a voice talent hunt program for garment workers
titled “Gorbo” (pride).• This program aims to provide the workers a platform where they can
discover their talents and make themselves motivated.
