What is a drug?

• Drug is any substance, natural or manmade, introduced into the body alters its functions.

Drugs and the Law?

• The term drug, lends itself to various interpretations, but often raises the idea of a prohibited substance, illegal use and harmful to the individual, modifying its functions

Drugs and you?

• It is easy to think that everyone is taking drugs and that you are missing out on something, or that you will look 'scared' if you don't take them. Do you try them? Do you have the confidence in your own judgement to say no if you do not want them? How would you react if you felt that a friend was getting into trouble with drugs? Would you be strong enough to talk to them about it and help them to get the help they need?

Examples of drugs of abuse? • Alcohol is a sedative. It can

result in a person loosing their normal sense of control and acting out of character. In very high doses, the sedative effect can cause a loss of consciousness.

Effects of Drus to the human body? • Anxiety, drug demand, watery eyes, runny nose,

intense, frequent yawning, excessive sweating, weakness, general weakness, dilated pupils, muscle tremors, cold waves, heat waves, by the erection of the skin, bone pain, muscle aches, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, a lot of restlessness, increased respiratory rate, rapid pulse, increased depth of breathing, increased blood pressure, hyperthermia (fever), abdominal pain, diarrhea, spontaneous ejaculation, weight loss, spontaneous orgasm, clinical signs of dehydration , increase in blood leukocytes, increased blood glucose, blood acidosis, disturbance of acid-base metabolism

Drugs and health ?

The damage can be physical (as in the case of hepatitis from the administration of injectable drugs) or mental (eg depressive episodes secondary to a large consumption of alcohol).

Drugs and behavior?

• It is a transient condition following the administration of alcohol or other psychoactive substance resulting in disturbances in level of consciousness, cognition, perception, affect or behavior, or other psychophysiological functions and responses.
