Absolute poverty Absolute poverty refers to Lack of Basicneeds like clean water, nutrition, healthcare, education, clothing and shelter.Relative povertyThe condition of having fewer resourcesor lesser income as compared to otherswithin the society or a country or ascompared to world wide averages.

Population in Pakistan: 180Million(approx).Poverty Rate: 37.5%( Increased from23.9% to 37.5% in last three yearsbecause economic shocks and naturaldisasters)

17% of the total population lives belowpoverty line.

Bottom 20% of the household getsmerely 7% of the total income(theseincludes household that lives below the

poverty line).



CAUSES OF POVERTYPakistan at the time of independence hadvery little resources and capital thus theprocess of developments was very slow.Over the years the number of causes hasincreased they are;
