Maritime Labor Convention 2006
Internationally agreed regulation to improve working
conditions on board, regulate safety and improve salary
for seafarers, enacted on 20th Aug 2013
Has drastically changed life on board, for better and

Specifically makes reference to crew
communications, that recommend that crew
members have; reasonable access to ship-to-shore, telephone
communications, and email and Internet facilities, where available, with
any charges for the use of these services being reasonable in amount.’
(Guideline B3.1.11 ss 4 (j)).
