WELCOME TO THE ANNUAL WINTER CONCERT!

AS PRESIDENT of the Crescenta Valley Instrumental Music Foundation, I would like to welcome you all to this very special evening for our Instrumental Music Department, the annual Winter Concert.

AS WE LOOK FORWARD to the upcoming holiday season and winter break, it’s also an opportunity to reflect upon another successful year for instrumental music at Crescenta Valley High School. Our Mighty Marching Falcons soared to new heights with numerous awards and a seventh place finish at Grand Championships at the California State Band Championships this season, the highest in CV school history. Festival season will soon be here and our award winning groups – Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band –will all be competing at numerous festivals. We are very proud of our students for all that they have accomplished, and we look forward to the accomplishments that are in store for them in the near future.

THANK YOU MR. SCHICK for all that you do to inspire our students to achieve their greatest potentials. Thank you also to the many parents and music families who have volunteered their time and supported CVIM in so many ways this year. Without all of your steadfast support, our program would not continue to enjoy the tremendous successes that it does.

AFTER MONTHS OF HARD WORK this semester by our Instrumental Music Director, our students, and the many parent volunteers who are CVIM, it’s now time to pause and enjoy the music of the season. All of our performing groups have been working very hard to prepare for this evening, so sit back and enjoy this amazing concert by our talented musicians.

from 5 to 9 pm. "Happy Hour" from 5 to 9 pm is also included in our fundraiser. New Moon will donate 15% of your ENTIRE BILL back to CVIM to directly support CV Instrumental Music. Take the night off from cooking and

Welcome to the 2017 Crescenta Valley Instrumental Winter Concert. Tonight, our goal is to transport everyone to a magical place where tests, angst, stress, college apps,

and anything negative is replaced with a positive, relaxing and magical celebration of the upcoming Holidays.

WHAT A FABULOUS YEAR the music students at CV have enjoyed so far. Our Jazz Band started the year early with a summer session before school started and has already played at numerous gigs. Our Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra have been fi ne tuning their skills as well as learning new ways to be more musical. Our Symphony Orchestra has already had a successful Ensemble Concert and your Marching Falcons / Color Guard and Drum Line had a stellar season earning High Music, High Percussion and High Auxiliary awards which culminated with a 2nd place fi nish at the CSBC 5a Division Finals and 7th place at Finals. With over 100 bands in CSBC, placing 7th is a great accomplishment. Tonight, you will hear their award-winning fi eld show “Scheherazade: The Music of 1001 Stories.”

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR in this community and tonight, I hope that you can sit back, relax and allow our talented musicians to help us all refl ect a few of them as we celebrate the Holiday Season. We are lucky to live in a supportive area which values the arts. Crescenta Valley High School would not have such strong performing arts programs if not for this community. From parents who chaperone, volunteer and donate to community members who attend events, and the students who put in the extra hours to practice, I consider myself fortunate to stand in front of these students every day and make music.

OUR GOAL FOR TONIGHT IS TO TAKE A “TIME-OUT” from the day-to-day minutiae and perform music which speaks to all of us. My hope is for each and everyone in this audience to leave this concert recharged, healed and ready to take on the rest of the Holiday Season with enthusiasm. Enjoy!
