Credit Transfer Application Procedure

1. A student who applies for credit transfer of courses must fill up an

application form obtainable from the Southern University College Students

Recruitment Office or the Faculties, or the Academic Affairs and

Registration Office.

2. An application for credit transfer must be accompanied by an official

academic record.

3. The application is to be submitted directly to the Faculties for course

evaluation by the Faculty members.

4. Applicants from other institutions must provide their previous academic

transcripts, course descriptions (syllabuses) and MQA approved documents

on the programs of studies.

5. The Deans and Heads of Academic Department have the discretion to grant

credit transfer based on the guidelines stipulated in the MQA credit transfer

policy.

6. All applications must be received within two weeks of the commencement

of the new semester.

Processing Fee

1. All applicants from other institutions of learning granted credit transfer to

the courses in the Southern University program will have to pay the

administrative charges of RM80.00 per subject

Appeal Procedure

1. If a student questions a decision concerning some courses that are not

granted transfer, he or she may appeal to the Deans or Heads of Academic

Departments for further reviews.

2. All cases of appeal shall be referred to the Senior Vice President cum

Director of the Academic Affairs and Registration Office for final decision

and approval.

The credit transfer policy is based on the guidelines and the policy of the Ministry

of Higher Education, Malaysia.

Credit Transfer (Vertical) – Bachelor’s Degree

1. The maximum credit hours of 30% can be transferred for all Diploma

programs to the total Bachelor’s degree program credits. (Approximately

one year of Bachelor’s degree course of study)

2. The grade of the subject offered for credit transfer shall be equivalent to at

least a pass (Grade C) of Southern University College.

3. The syllabus contents of the subject offered for credit transfer must cover at

least 80% of those of the corresponding subject at Southern University

College.

4. The credit value of the subject to be transferred must be the same or more

than the credit value of the subject offered by Southern University College.

5. Only subjects from an accredited program recognized by the awarding

country and Malaysia’s MQA can be considered for credit transfer.

6. Credit transfer for advanced diplomas is limited to a maximum of two years

of the Bachelor’s degree duration of studies.

7. Credit transfer is not allowed from a higher level program to a lower level

program.

Credit Transfer (Horizontal)

1. Credit transfer is allowed for the change of one program of studies to

another at the same level. (Grade transfer is allowed with no limit to the

amount of credits for Southern University students)

2. Consideration for credit transfer of a program from another institution to the

program of the same level in Southern University College is subject to the

residential requirement of Southern University College (1 year for

Bachelor’s degree and 1 semester for Diploma programs)

eg.

A student pursuing a degree in Information Technology from another

institution applies for his/her continuation of studies in the Bachelor of

Software Engineering at Southern University College may be eligible for

credit transfer. However, the student has to pursue his/her studies for a

minimum of one year at the University College before he/she is awarded

the degree.

3. No credit and grade transfer are allowed for SUC students who have failed

/been terminated and wish to pursue another program of the same level.

4. Credit and grade transfer may be considered for a SUC student who has

withdrawn from a program and wishes to continue another program at the

same level. The subjects taken by the student must not be more than FIVE

years prior to the registration date of the new program.

Subject Exemption

1. A student who is granted an exemption from taking a subject will not earn

any credit. He or she is, therefore, required to take a replacement subject to

fulfill the graduation credits requirement of the program.
