Richland County Fair & Rodeo, created by Shyanne Nice, fourth grade, Rau Elementary School

This year marks the 10th edition ofSidney Herald’s Creative Kids sectionwhere the Herald and area businessesbring the talents of area students tolife.

The editorial portion of this sectionwas written by seventh- and eighth-grade students from East Fairview,Fairview and Savage schools on thesubject, “Who is your role model?”Area students share their stories onthat special person in their lives andwhat qualities make them a role mod-el. Each student wrote from theirheart, making it even more difficult tojudge. The time and thought that wentinto each essay made everyone realizehow much these youth care about theirmentors.

Herald editorial staff chose the top10 essays. From those, the first- andsecond-place winners were picked. Nospelling corrections or editing hasbeen done to the stories, so what youread is what the students wrote.

Printed in this section are the top 10,along with many of the other great es-says we received. There was not room

in the special section to print all theessays received, but our plan is to pub-lish them periodically on the Newspa-per In Education page in the weeklypaper in the months ahead.

An important part of the CreativeKids section is theadvertisements, just as it is in thenewspaper. In thiscase, the ads werenot designed on thecomputer by theHerald productionstaff, but insteadwere hand-drawnby fourth- throughsixth-grade stu-dents from allcounty schools.Over 200 studentsshowed their tal-ents by designing a specific business-sponsored ad.

Each participating business was giv-en a number of advertisements, witheach business deciding the best ad rep-resenting its message. The chosen ad

is the one printed in this section.Students were encouraged to do their

homework before drafting the ad. It isimportant to know the ins and outs ofthe business you are helping to pro-mote. The student educated themself

about the busi-ness by doingtheir research. The student mayhave visited thebusiness, askingquestions, viewedtheir ads in thenewspaper, phonebook, spe-cial sections or bychecking out thebusinesses’ web-site, a valuablelesson in market-ing.

The Herald staff then selected thetop 10 advertisements from those selec-tions, with the top two receiving thefirst- and second-place awards.

Spend time and read what our chil-dren say about their role model and

what they have learned about the spon-sored businesses. Through these es-says, our communities can see what in-fluence a role model can have on ourchildren.

First-place advertisement winnerAinhoa Idoate, Sidney school, receiveda $100 savings bond from Wells Fargo;second-place ad winner Abby Reitz,Sidney, received a $50 savings bondfrom Stockman Bank.

For the essay winners, first-placewinner Sierra Tornabeni, Fairview, was awarded a $100 savings bond fromRichland Federal Credit Union; secondplace Kelly Danielson, East Fairview, received a $50 savings bond from 1stBank. All savings bonds were donatedby the financial institutions.

Thank you to all the businesses in-volved and to the many teachers andstudents in Richland County for theircontinued support of this creativeproject. The success of the CreativeKids section each year is only becauseof each of you.

Do you admire someone? I do, hername is Cammie Wold. The reason I ad-mire her is because she’s a very inspir-ing person. She’s responsible, open mind-ed, and smart. How so you ask? When shehas work to do, even around the house, her job, wherever, she’ll get it done. She’sdefinitely straight forward. If I need helpin math or any other subject she’s thereto help with it even if she doesn’t knowwhat to do she’ll try her hardest to helpsolve any problem I have.

Cammie doesn’t give up on anything. She’s the kind of person that starts some-thing and finishes it, for example, ourbasement flooded a while ago and my dadwasn’t there to help, so she did what shecould and didn’t stop trying until my dadgot home to fix it, it doesn’t matter whatshe has to do, and she’ll do it with a smileon her face. She gives a good example onthe right kind of person to be.

She’s like the rainbow in Skittles, she’s

just that important. When I need some-one to talk to she’s always there for me soI can extinguish my inner feelings andnot be judged about them. That’s anotherthing about her, she can be like the momyou’ve never had. She’ll treat you as oneof her own. I know from experience. Al-though she’s fun, nice, and very easy toget along with, she still has rules. They’re not that difficult to follow either. For example, rinsing off your plate afteryou’re done eating, cleaning you room, and dishes once in a while. Not that hardright?

When I hear the bell at the end of lastperiod, I feel the excitement to go hometo sit and talk with her about my day.And when I get home, I see her red andblack curly hair, her small figure, andher gigantic smile she always has. All ofthis makes it so easy for me to talk to her.I feel comfortable talking to her aboutanything. With this in mind, it makes mewant to be like her. Easy to talk to, openminded, and inspiring. When I hear hervoice it gives me joy.

Cammie Noel Wold. An inspiring, pret-ty, cool, fun, responsible, and reliable per-son, that knows she can succeed. Whoknows she can do great things. Further-

more, I look up to her because she’s likean actual mother, she takes care of me,makes sure I have the things I need. Ilove her. Which is why I admire her.

My role model is basketball all-star,volleyball expert, homecoming queen, class “C” state champion, Jordan Gif-ford. From her moves on the court toher grades in school this FairviewHigh School senior is one to look up to.I think Jordan definitely understandsthat her younger peers are idolizingher in many ways.

When I was in about 6th grade, I wentto a basketball game and she was play-ing. I watched her and decided that oneday; I wanted to be just like her. Some-one who has good qualities will make agood role model and Jordan is a verygood example of this.

Unlike your average high schooler,Jordan understands how she was treat-ed when she was young by high school-ers and treats her younger peers theway she wished she was treated. Justnice things like, “Hi Kelly” will make

me so happy. High schoolers are likecelebrities and Jordan is like a pop starto me.

I try so hard to be like Jordan. She isso nice that it makes it that much moredifficult to be like her. You don’t meetmany people like Jordan.

When I was little, I used to take danceat Just for Kix in Fairview and believeit or not, Jordan helped in my group. As I look back it is really neat to dancewith your role model.

This year I went to the Fairview War-rior basketball camp and Jordan was ahelper. It was a lot of fun to learn newthings from her. If you did a good job ata certain drill, you will receive aGatorade from someone and I got onefrom Jordan. I was so happy that I did-n’t know what to do so I just smiled. Myparents were very proud.

I know that Jordan knows other peo-ple are looking up to her and that iswhy she is my role model.

Since day one, my big broth-er, Shad, has always been thereto pick me up when I wasdown. Over the years, he’sbeen my friend and my coach.

Whenever I’m bored andhaven’t hung out with him inawhile, we drive around in hispickup and sing along to all ofthe songs we’re both interestedin.

I have always looked up tohim especially when he playssports. He has helped me withmy basketball skills since theday I could walk. We’ve spentmany hours together practic-ing at the basketball court, and

each time we shoot around hehas good advice to make me abetter player.

Sometimes we play one-on-one, but I have to admit that Iget frustrated because it seemslike every time he shoots itgoes in.

Luckily, we don’t play Make-It-Take-It. Because of his tal-ent in basketball, he tried towork hard to get what he reallywants in basketball.

For instance, last year whenhe discovered that he made thetraveling team for Bozemanand couldn’t go out for trackbecause there were basketballgames the same time as trackmeets, he still went to every

track practice to run so hecould stay in shape.

I think that makes him a per-fect role model and that is why

Shad is not only my big broth-er, but also my hero.

He’s more than just a big brother to her

What do I look for in a rolemodel? These are just some ofthe qualities I think are impor-tant. A rolemodel shouldbe a person whois able to leadand keep every-one’s spirits up.They should benice to the peo-ple aroundthem and neverlook down onanyone, even ifno one elselikes that per-son.

Christopher Reynolds hasthese qualities. He works hard atwhatever is put before him. Heis an all-state football player andone of the best running backs insix-man football. On the field hehas helped lead our football

team to a second finish round intwo state championships.

Off the field he works hard inschool every day and sets an ex-ample by always helping peopleout and extending a hand when

someoneneeds help.He is one ofthe friendliestpeople I knowand is alwayswilling tohelp. Onetime when Iwanted to goto a footballgame, and myparents could-n’t take me,

he offered me a ride, anothertime he let me stay at his housewhen my parents were out oftown. Because he always workshard, he has caught my eye as agreat leader and person. I onlyhope I can become as good aplayer and person as he is one.

When I was about 5-years-old, I hadthe privilege to meet a girl that had bigbrown eyes and beautiful long hair andher perfume that I can still spell todayand her loud voice that I can hear milesaway, this girl that I got to meet I wouldlook up to from that moment on.

She was a girl that didn’t talk on thephone or watch TV while babysittingme, instead she got down on her kneesand played Barbies with me and sang tome and also remember what we bothsay “What do we want for lunch?”Fried egg sandwiches.

I remember feeling like I was impor-tant to her and she made me feel so spe-cial. She is a great and generous per-son. However people should look up toAndrea Lebsock because she’s a verynice, fun, and gorgeous girl. Today, Idon’t get to see Andrea very often be-cause she is out helping kids in othercountries feel the way she made me

feel. She is having her own amazing ad-ventures.

Her awesome adventures are fasci-nating to me! Andrea goes to Thailandand Africa and she helps children andfamilies, but mostly woman. She is amissionary who travels with a group ofmen and women and gets to explore theworld. She’s also been training to helppeople from 11 countries in 11 monthswhich I don’t think I would be able todo. I don’t think I would be able to beaway from family and friends that long,it must take a lot of training, courage, and passion to do.

It would be awesome to see all thethings in the different countries be-cause the USA usually takes advantageof what we have here. It is important toget out and travel around the world andbe very social and that’s how Andrea isand that’s why I look up to her a bunch. She’s like an older sister I never had!Andrea is a strong and very supportiveof what I do! She actually helped me domy student council campaign for secre-

tary this year, all my help goes to her!Winner, winner chicken dinner!

She’s a lot of help to me, she has myback and I have her back. We will al-ways be there for each other. I can al-most feel her every time she’s back in

Fairview, and when she comes to myhouse I just smile and laugh! I love herdearly and always hope she’s safe whenshe travels! She may be older now andwe may be far far apart but I will neverforget her! In the meantime she will al-ways be my babysitter even thoughshe’s not there all the time, I alwaysknow she’s on her on fascinating ad-ventures! Finally I have found my truerole model.

My role model is a sophomore in highschool, he plays football, basketball, and track. My role model is JustinBieber. Nope, not the famous JustinBieber. It’s my brother Justin Bieberwho absolutely loves sports, but his fa-vorite is definitely basketball. Hespends a lot of time working on movesin the gym, hanging out with friends, and doing his homework.

I admire that he acts nicely towardsothers. He always tries to see me com-pete in sports and hang out with me andthe rest of the family. I also admire thatwhen the other Justin Bieber becamefamous he never got mad he just stayedcool. He hoped it would just go away. Healways told people that he thought itwould die down before it ever got big,but that didn’t happen.

On his football team, the coacheswould give all the players a nickname, and Justin’s was One Time. The coach-

es gave him that nickname because ofthe other Justin Bieber’s hit song “OneTime.” You could tell that Justin didn’tlike it, but he went along with it.

Another thing that I really admireabout my brother is that he is a supergood artist. If you have seen any of theprojects that he’s made in art class I betyou would be amazed. I know I was.

I picked Justin Bieber as my rolemode because he is always considerateof others. He always works to makehimself better at the things he does. Hedoesn’t brag, and he cares about thepeople around him. I also like that he is-n’t cocky at all.

Do you see that student walkingdown the hall? What can you say abouthim just by looking athow he acts? Do youever know who that is?It’s Braden Ler, andthat’s my role model.

Why? He knows howto keep them from scor-ing. When he plays thegame, I think he trieshis best every time, andthat’s important to mewhen I’m picking a rolemodel.

Other reasons I chosehim to be my role modelare the fact that he isfunny and a great per-son who doesn’t swear. He isn’t a nega-tive person, and when he talks withhis friends, he doesn’t seem angry or

disappointed. Braden does not letderogatory statements get to him. Heknows how to keep criticism frommaking him angry or sad, and thatshows maturity. He acts mannerly, but

still horses around alittle with theyounger students, and helps when he isasked, He sometimeshas a silly side.

I once saw a pictureof him in a goofy out-fit he was wearing;short shorts, a shirtthat was made for atoddler, and a cowboyhat. I really laughedabout that picture.Because of all theabove qualities I men-tioned: his silly sense

of humor, his persistence in a game, and maturity in and outside sports,Braden Ler is my role model.

There are lots of students to pick from, but I think I will choose one in particu-lar, Cody Vitt. I like him because hesticks up for me a lot and isn’t mean tome (that much). When I see him in thehallways he always says hi to me andnow that he is selling chocolates I alwaysbuy from him. At lunch whenever I sitdown he talks to me to.

One reason I look up to and respectCody is the way he treats me. When he isat my house hanging out with my broth-er he includes me and doesn’t throw meout (like Jonathan). But he is not onlynice to me, he is nice to others to. Onetime he even drove me to a dance whenJonathon didn’t want to. Sometimes he isjust really nice to me when were in a biggroup with other kids to. In fact I don’tthink I’ve ever seen him be mean.

He is also very good at sports. There’salso never a moment when he is not

humble or a good sport on the field andoff. He is hard working and never givesup whether it’s on an assignment or asport. Like this football season when wewere down on a lot of games we alwayscame back and won the whole footballteam caused that though but still theydon’t give up. He can run as fast as thewind. Sometimes when he runs by Iswear I hear woosh! Cody will probablyget an athletic scholarship. In footballthe popping of their pads are awesome. In football he scores touchdowns in bas-ketball he swishes shots and in track heruns real fast. Furthermore he is hum-ble.

Someday I would like to be like him insome ways. Because he gets very goodgrades and on the other hand he is astud. But he has worked very hard forthis remember. Sweat on you from theweightroom and sweat on your handsfrom assignments. So to everyone thatread this that is why I choose Cody Vittto be my favorite high school student.

My brother Don is a great person to ad-mire. He is a good gracious soldier. Inother words, he is a great helper too. Ithink of my brother as a jelly filleddonut, as you get into it, it’s more sweetand tasty.

Do you ever have trouble choosing agood role model? Well, here is who I lookup to as a good role model……..Chris“Cheeto” Reynolds.

First and foremost, I believe hard workis one of the most important things tolook for, and I think Cheeto shows thiswith his summer attendance in theweight room. Thanks to his determina-tion, he has become a leader for theyounger freshmen and sophomores whojoin him in his workouts. All that hardwork has paid off and he is one of thebest running backs in Class C 6-man foot-ball. He has amassed 46 touchdowns,1550 rushing yards, and 655 receivingyards, and that's just just in the 2011 foot-ball season!!!

I have also noticed that no matter howmany mistakes other players or the ref-erees have made, he keeps it all on thefield. Cheeto is also a talented basketballplayer, because he works hard to im-prove his shot and dribbling skills. Hishumbleness makes him approachableand easy to talk to. When the junior highfootball team practices with the high

school, he is very helpful and under-standing because even though he hashad 4 years of high school football, buthe remembers he was in junior highonce.

Another instance of him rememberingwhen he was little is there’s the little girlnamed Taylor who loves him to death. He always takes time to give her a hug ifshe wants one. He is just an all-aroundnice guy who’s always there with a highfive when someone’s done a good job.

I look up to my sister Desiree’. I choseher because she is honest and she’s notbratty. She is in her first year of highschool right now. One reason why I choseher is because she can tell me what highschool is going to be like and what class-es I can choose to take.

She told me one time that she was go-ing to be a vet when she grew up. I thinkthat job would be very good for her be-cause she loves animals and being a vetcan get you a lot of money. She isn’tmean to animals and she always remem-bers to feed our pets. My sister has a lotof experience with animals and part ofit is because she has a cat living in herroom. She also loves music and shemight become a singer, but she hasn’tsaid anything about it.

She reads a lot and has already readall of the Harry Potter books. Anotherthing about her is that she’s a big Simsfan and she plays it whenever she’s notreading or doing something else.Garfield is also another obsession ofhers. She reads the comics, goes on the

website, and she records all the episodeson our TV. She loves playing basketballand volleyball, and she practices a lot ofsongs on our electric keyboard.

All of those things are something shedoes all the time, but what she doesevery day is mainly texting and Face-book. She can’t ever stop texting and shecan’t put down her phone. I keep hearingher phone vibrate or play a song everyday. Whenever she is on Facebook, shealways needs to show everyone funnythings her friends posted. I’m not sayingthose are bad things, but I really wishthat she would keep her phone on vi-brate. And those are all the reasons whyI look up to my sister.

A High School student I look up towould be my cousin Asha Smith. Ashawas in North Dakota State cross countrythis year and got her best time ever.

The State Cross Country meet was inFargo, North Dakota, just on this biggrassy area. Asha ran over four milesand finished with a time of 14.54 whichput her in second. She could have gotfirst, and was right on the girl in front’sheels but was too nice to pass her.

My cousin is very caring, nice, and re-ally fast at running long distance. Whenshe was at her State Cross Country Fi-nals, there were over 200 girls runningagainst her. At first all the girls startedsprinting then getting slower and slower, but not Asha she kept up at her ownpaste and finishing with her time of14.54. The girl in front of Asha (RobinEssler) which got first finished with atime of 14.52.

Asha works really hard at what shedoes best and hopes to get first next year.I think she will get first if she workshard enough. She is also thinking about

buying some exercise stuff for when shecan’t go outside in the winter. She will al-so try to go to her local gym “WatfordCity Gym” and run if all else fails.

Have you ever looked up to someone who is probablythe best drawer you know, who can sing even the silliestsong in the most beautiful way, and who can make youlaugh and make a statement while doing it? I’m not sureif you do, but I am sure about one thing. Morgan Tysveris my obvious role model.

She has always been my friend and the person I lookup too since we were little. I enjoy watching her drawanimals such as wolves and hedgehogs in a certain car-toony way that only she is capable of. She can make arandom line on a piece of paper into a beautiful and

majestic creature from some far off land. Every singlepicture she creates is guaranteed to be burned intoyour memory in such a fashion that you’ll be able to re-

call it even when you’re well into your life. Each note that leaves her mouth will be as perfect

pitch and the finished product will be the same, if notbetter, to the original. Not only is she skilled in artistichobbies, but she is also the smartest person I know.

Morgan will continue to outsmart and amaze count-less people with her facts and knowledge about ani-mals. When she is not drawing or building her knowl-edge on animals and their habitats, she spends herhours reading the books she has numerous times be-fore. And even with all the skills, talents, and knowl-edge she has, she is still very humble and silently takespride in how she spends her time.

They first time I ever saw my cousinAustin Jensen race his dirt bike, I wasamazed at how he would fly around thecorners and jump very high into the air. From that point on, I have been interest-ed in dirt bikes and Austin has taught mea lot about riding.

He tries to make it to most of my dirt

bike races and encourages me when he’sthere.

Austin is also a good basketball playerand has helped me with my shooting anddribbling skills. When he comes to mybasketball games, he is the one in thecrowd cheering the loudest for me.

In the summer, when he comes out tothe farm and helps me work, we bothhave a really good time together, maybetoo good, like the time my grandpa told

us to fix fence, but we didn’t. Instead wewere messing around on our four

wheelers. When I was little, I wanted his last

name. I thought that if I had it, I wouldbe just like him in the future. He has nev-er told me to back off or acted like he isbetter than me. I know that if I ever getinto trouble, he will be there for me.

He is the best role model I could ask forin the whole world. He is also the bestcousin I have ever had, and one day Iwish I could be just like him.

Have you ever looked up to anyone? Ilook up to Cody Vitt because he is agood sport when he plays football andbasketball. Cody helps up people afterhe hits them in football, isn’t cocky, heplays legally such as not hitting peopleout abounds grabbing there face mask.He is fast, strong and a good tackler.

He is an amazing ball player becausehe hustles on the field or court, is apowerful runner, and isn’t a ball hog! Itmay seem that he is a ball hog becausein football the coaches like to haveCody run the football quite a bit and inone game it took three players to takehim down, he had multiple touch-downs. When he scores he always doesa celebration with the first guy down inthe end zone with him. If you feel hisjersey after the game it is full of sweat.

But he doesn’t just do sports he helpsout in church events. To clarify, he’s al-so in a local 4-H group that I am in also.I bet if you knew Cody you would likehim too. “When in doubt give it to CodyVitt” is what my teacher always saidbut I can’t agree more. But when I get

older I want people to say that aboutme. Anyway that is why I look up tohim.

He is loved by the team, the coachesand the community. For these reasonshe is a good student, and a better ballplayer. Furthermore he has goodgrades and is on the honor roll.

Support, sportsmanship, and confi-dence are qualities that not every per-son possesses. Well, I believe that theyare in the person I look up to. This per-son is active in sports such as Football,Basketball, and Track and Field. He is agreat person to be around. The person Ilook up to is Kristian Shaide.

I admire Kristian because he nevergives up. During football games he nev-er stops until the whistle blows. Withthis in mind when the whistle blows hestill gives a little extra.

On the other hand whenever the ene-my is up 20 he still never quits. Even ifthe other teams running back is goingto score Kristian still chases him withall his might.

I also look up to him because he has apositive attitude. When the offensivelinemen Kristian is going against onthe other team is cocking off, he doesn’tlet it get too him. However when heknocks that lineman on the ground hegrabs his hand and helps him up, even

if he was being cocky. Last but not leasthe encourages his teammates eventhough they are down by 40.

Kristian is a great person to admireand I believe I shouldn’t be the onlyperson to admire him. Yes, Kristianmay get a little wild at times. But youcan’t judge a book by its cover. I believethat Kristian has a bright future aheadof him and I hope that I could follow inhis footsteps someday.

My cousin Jesse Doud, who started college lastyear, has always been agood role model for mybrothers and me. Whenmy brothers and I used toget into fights, he wouldbreak up the fighting andtell us to be nicer to oneanother. I guess that car-ried over to the footballbecause when he played,he was good at stoppingthe other team from get-ting 1st downs and wasable to hit hard. I admirehim because he neverfights or calls other peoplenames. He’s also nice topeople who aren’t nice tohim. He’s good at gettingthings done that need tobe done, and he puts a lotof effort into what hedoes.

When I was a little kidwe all used to go to grand-pa’s house for Easter, and

he would help me findmore Easter eggs thaneveryone else, whichmade me happy. Last yearat Christmas, we got RockBand 2 for the Wii, and heand I hooked it up. I wasthe drummer, and he wasthe guitarist and mybrother Shannon did thebase guitarist. After thethird song, my cousinJesse came up with theidea to get the adults andhave them play with us.He always knows how tohave fun with the family.

Every year we go to An-gostura in South Dakotaand have fun at the lake.We always go tubing andknee boarding, and mycousin Jesse and I are ableto ride the tube all the wayfrom the other side of thelake to our spot on thebeach. He is my role mod-el because I enjoy spend-ing time with him and heteaches me how to havefun in life.

My role model is Morgan Tysver. Ichose her as my role model becauseshe is smart, funny, and alwaysthere to cheer me up when I amdown.

She makes me laugh when shecracks jokes or draws silly pictures. There is never a dull moment withMorgan. I like Morgan because sheis nice to the younger kids andtreats everyone equally. When weare outside we like telling stories

about our weekend or looking forbugs which is one of her favoritenoon hour activities. She IS a na-ture lover! She is always findingbugs and insects and showing me,even though I am NOT a big insectlover, I am always interested inwhat she is showing me.

Morgan likes to read a lot. Mor-gan is also an excellent drawer. Myfavorite drawings are probablythose with wolves in them. She is al-ways practicing her drawing whilewe where sitting on the bench forlunch hour, she started drawing a

box and we put goof faces in them.Because she had been drawing sillypictures earlier that day, and she be-gan showing me and I got a kick outof them! We began drawing moresilly pictures of faces, Every timeshe starts drawing I can guess be-fore she is even done because herdrawings are so alive and noticableand really catch your eye.

I look up to her for lots of rea-sons, but mostly because she is al-ways there for people if they need totalk and if you need a good laughshe knows right how to do it.

My cousin Chris Kurukowa is agreat baseball player. He has earneda full scholarship to play baseball atJamestown College. He is a pitcherbut can play anywhere else on thefield, which is the best thing youwant in a player.

What I want to do, that he has the

ability to do, is throw a 95 mph ball. That’s good for a pitcher. Chris hasalways loved sports and played foot-ball, basketball, and baseball at WolfPoint High School for four years. Hehas always worked hard at at liftingweights and running every day. I re-spect him for working hard and notgiving up when he had a hurt shoul-der. He has always had good gradesin school and his favorite subject is

math. He always picks on my broth-er and I when we see him in WolfPoint, and says he just does it tomake us stronger, but I know it’sjust because he is way stronger thatboth of us and like to rub it in.

I would like to be as big as he iswhen I am his age. I have fun whenI’m with him, and he has a greatpersonality. That’s why I chose himas my role model.

My role model is my brother GregHardy. He is a junior in college at theUniversity of Montana and he plays foot-ball for the Griz. He is going to school tobe a History teacher. He is my role modelbecause he has things in common withme.

One thing we have in common is bas-ketball. We both like baseball too, but thething we have the most in common isfootball. We both love football and weboth play the same position, tight end.The difference is that I am a seventhgrader and Greg is a junior in college.Greg had a very good high school foot-ball career; he also played in the Trea-sure State game and the Badlands Bowlafter graduation.

I think Greg hopes to go to the NFL andso do I. Greg tells me it doesn’t matter ifyou have talent if you don’t keep yourgrades up. I agree with Greg because ifyou go to college to play sports and hopeto go pro you should have a back-up planin case you don’t make it. The one thingGreg told me is in sports and in school

that you should go 100 percent all thetime. Even if you don’t like school nowit will pay off in the future.

I look up to Cody Vitt because he is agood guy on and off the field. He is a real-ly talented football player but he is notcocky. I find it weird because Cody lookedup to my brother Greg Hardy, who is thestarting tight end for the Montana Griz-zlies, and now I look up to Cody. Anotherthing about Cody and, pretty much allthe Fairview basketball boys, is that theycome in and help us with basketball atour practices. He is not selfish, he will

help you and I think one reason he is agood guy is his grandma Bonnie Iverson.Cody also plays basketball and is intrack. He gives 110 percent in all sports. For example, he helped the Warriors goto state track last year, the state class Cchampionship this year, and divisionalbasketball last year. In my eyes he is oneof the best team players around. He is notafraid to pass the ball in basketball if it istwo on one and he is dribbling the ball. Iwish him the best of luck in your lastyears and I hope you get to play collegesports.

I look up to my cousin Timothy Hurley;he is a senior at Fairview High School. I’veknown him since I was little, I enjoywatching him play in sports. He is a veryskilled on basketball court; he has seenvarsity playing time since he was a fresh-man. He is a threat offensively and defen-sively. I hope I can learn a few things fromhim in basketball.

This was his first year of football, heworked really hard and ended up getting tostart at wide receiver, he got to play a littlebit of defense. I wish he would have start-ed earlier because he has natural talent atfootball. But he was still a threat on thefield with as little experience he had. Outof sports he’s a really nice guy to hang outwith and a funny guy to talk to. Good jobat state, Tim. Good luck in basketball. I’mpretty sad we won’t get to go to high schooltogether.

Who do you look up to as a role model? Well, Ilook up to Ashley Morast. To me she’s mycousin, kind person and volunteers to a lot ofstuff for example sports such as volleyball andbasketball and helps teach the kids at herchurch for Sunday school. She’s the oldestchild on my dad’s side. Once this year is overshe will be going to college. She’s really similarto Alyssa my other cousin. So I think that shewould be a good role model to look up to. Also,to include is that she is in 4-H.

Why I chose Ashley is because she’s a goodrole model. For an example she volunteers toteach the younger kids in church in fact shetells them what to do on the worksheet. Anoth-er reason is that Ashley is in all sports so farlike volleyball and basketball. So that tells youthat she is active and likes to participant inother things like sports such as volleyball andbasketball, chores around the house like feed-ing all their 4-H pets, and help teach people inchurch on Sundays for bible school. Anothergood reason why is that she wants to go to col-lege. Going to college is a lot of school years al-so, got to keep your grades up and get a goodjob.

Ashley is really kind to a lot of people that’s

she meets. She’s always helping others to getbetter and inspiring them. She volunteers tostuff such as helping doing chores and evenhomework with her brother and sister. For thisreason she’s very polite for an example sheholds the door open for the people that havecrutches or a wheel chair. She lets that’s oldestperson gets the passenger seat. So with all thisreasons I think that she is a very good rolemodel and a good person to look up to.

When Ashley laughs it’s really loud but, youcan hear all the way from the other side of theroom. She usually smells like apple cinnamonbecause that’s what her house smells like. When I see her, she’s very tall. She loves thetaste of chocolate chip cookie when they comeout of the oven. When she does her chore shesays, “Stop complaining and get the job done.”Because Aaron doesn’t like to do his chores.

Ashley loves to play volleyball and basket-ball and other sports. She always keeps hergrades up so; she can go to college and a goodreport on her report card. So I think that withall her good grades and helping others that shewould be a good role model. When we playboard games she gets mad because I alwayswin. When you let her win she rubs it in yourface. This is why I chose Ashley Morast for myrole model. So who would you want to be yourrole model?

Role model always willing to help outBY PARKER JENSENFAIRVIEW

Have you ever had a friend? Afriend that would protect you fromthe most dangerous and outrageousadventures, a friend that calls youever day to see if you would like todo something together, a friend thatnever forgets about you even whenyou’re miles and miles away. Nowthat’s a true friend.

To clarify, the person that couldn’tbe any more perfect to look up to isMonte Cayko. Monte Cayko is a boythat gives his absolute hardest ateverything he does in life. Tries toimprove in everything he does untilhe meets the highest rank, any goalthat he tries to accomplish he goesafter it at 200 percent. And neverbacks down.

For example, the day that Montebroke his collarbone was a scaryday for everyone, but I know Montewas not crying because of the pain,he was crying because he wanted tobe there for his team. This is the daythat Monte and I became very goodfriends. Monte has taught me lots ofthings such as, tennis, the rubics

cube and most of all, how to be kindperson. Monte is not alone in show-ing kindness, his whole family isone of the nicest people that I haveever met and I will never forget that. All of them show kindness like it’s apiece of cake and that’s what I loveabout every single person inMonte’s family and I also know thatthey would never give up in anytough situations.

The reason that I picked MonteCayko is not because he is a super-star athlete. It is because Monteworks as hard as he can on anythinghe does in life, never backs down, and most of all he is one of thenicest people I have ever met.

Wow! Look at him go! That bolt oflightning’s Christopher Reynolds, one ofthe best running backs in Six-Man ClassC Football. Even though he is an amaz-ing football player, who has win many

awards, he still stays humble on and offthe field. I think he is humble because hehas scored countless times and has neversaid to anyone, “Look at me! I can runfast!”

Moreover, He is an even better rolemodel. Ever since I became friends withhim, he has always been someone I could

look up to. He gives me good advice whenI need it most. He does not like to “beataround the bush” when he talks to me.He is honest and good person who is alsoa good listener who is always there whenI need him. I say this because, wheneverI need somewhere to stay, he lets me stayat his home. I also look up to him for his

morals. He has always been cautious ofcurfew and has never violated trainingrules. I respect Christopher for his Chris-tian values. I am glad we go to the sameyouth group, where we study the Bibleand have fun with friends. I am so happythat I have chosen Chris as my role mod-el and friends.

BY CLAY SHEEHANSAVAGE

What is NOT to like about my role model. I like every-thing about the person I have chosen as my role model.Braden Ler is one of the best defensive players in 6-man, Class C, high school football. He is not afraid tomake a hit, and when he tackles the opponent, they cansee the look of determination in his eyes..

When Braden walks out of the locker room, I can tellhe is always ready to play the game. That does not meanthat he doesn’t have good sportsmanship. During agame, he is willing to help people off the ground whenthey are hurt.

In school, Braden treats me like a friend. We are

around each other a lot more now that he is the aid inscience. He also encourages me to do my best in juniorhigh football. When I was practicing running the ball,Braden walked up to me and told me that I needed to

keep my legs pumping and to keep them spread. Andthat’s what encouraged me to play the game in Wibauxlike I wanted to. When I get older I would like to play thesport of football just like Braden, and I would reallylike to make a hit like he makes.

That is why I chose Braden Ler as my role model. Un-fortunately, this year was the last year I will be able tosee him play football for the Savage Warriors. Whoknows, maybe Braden will make it to be a pro footballplayer some day and I’ll be able to go and watch himplay and cheer him on. But who knows after highschool we may not be able to see each other but I surewish we could. Because Braden has probably one of thebest sense of humors that I have ever seen.

What’s not to like about this role model?‘When I get older I would like to play the

sport of football just like Braden, and I wouldreally like to make a hit like he makes.’

Clay SheehanSavage

Wow! Look at him go – this Savage role model can really run
