The Scripture LessonsRomans 8: 18-25 (NIV) I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that

will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of

God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own

choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself

will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory

of the children of God.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth

right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits

of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the

redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is

no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we

do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Genesis 1: 20-31And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the

earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and

every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according

to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was

good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the

water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening,

and there was morning—the fifth day.

And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the

livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each

according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their

kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along

the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they

may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all

the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image,

in the image of God he created them;

male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the

earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over

every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth

and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all

the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move

along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green

plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Living Into God’s Word1. What does it mean to be “blessed”?

2. Did God ever bless animals, or just humans?

3. On what day were the animals created?

4. Do you remember the name of your childhood pet?

What was it?

5. Do you like animals? If so, why? If not, why not?

6. We know that the whole _________ has been _______

as in the pains of ________ right up to the present time.

(Romans)

7. What are some non-animal “sounds” that creation

makes?

8. What is our role in creation?

9. What does it mean that Jesus is the “Savior of all of

Creation”

10. Do something for an animal this week. Volunteer at a

shelter, donate a bag of food, give an extra belly rub to

your favorite animal. Best of all, bring them to the

Blessing of the Animals this afternoon!

HERE’S THE SCOOPBLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - Come on out today from 2:00 - 4:00 PM for our Blessing of the Animals!

Bring your pets, a picture of pets who cannot be with you, or special stuffed animals and invite your

friends, neighbors, and co-workers. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit will be giving a K9

demonstration at 3pm! The Humane Society of Charles County, PETCO, Help for Pets, and local vets

and groomers will also be there! Darby, the therapy dog, will be on hand for puppy kisses! You can

still drop in your donations this Sunday to raise $1000.00 for “Help for Pets.” Look for the hungry little

cow in Fellowship Hall 2 during the Café Service, and later in the lobby after the 11am service.

TRUNK N TREAT - Tonight is the night to circle the lower parking lot with our cars to pop a trunk and

pass out goodies. Please arrive at 5:00 to set up your decorated vehicle and plan for about 150 kids

to come through. Invite neighbors, friends and family to come collect between 5:30 - 7:00 pm. This

is a great community outreach event, thank you for your support.

FAIR TRADE COFFEE NEXT SUNDAY - Fair Trade Coffee Today- The coffee cart now also has chocolate

bars on it! Both the coffee and chocolate are fair trade items so we will still support small farmers and

50% of sales go to support the Edelen family in Papua Indonesia. Stop by after either service to make

purchases.

HOMEMADE PIES - Once again the youth will be busy in the kitchen making homemade pies for the

holidays. Pumpkin ($12) and Lemon Meringue ($14) will be available to order beginning today!

Orders will be taken until November 10 and pies will be ready for pick up November 17. This is a

fundraiser for the youth and the leadership of Terry and Mark Stancliff is greatly appreciated.

ABR CIRCLE SCHEDULE CHANGE - The members of the ABR Circle will meet at 10:00 AM (or earlier)

Thursday morning, October 31 to help prepare dressing for the annual Harvest Dinner on November

1. We will also meet Friday, November 1 to help with set-up, if needed. Therefore, the ABR Circle will

NOT meet on November 7. The December annual Christmas Party will be Wednesday, December 4.

More details will be available in November.

BLESSING BUDDIES - The Prayer Shawl ministry is adding another comfort blessing, but they need

your help. Please donate a new 10-inch Teddy Bear for our new Blessing Buddies ministry. These

bears would spend time in worship and prayer with our congregation and then be taken to bless those

who need some comfort from their church family. There will be a box in the front entrance for your

donations, or you can bring them to the church office any time during the week.

SUNDAY SCHOOL - Sunday School is available for everyone from 9:45 - 10:45 each week! Children

ages 2 - 5th grade begin in Fellowship Hall 1

Middle School meets in room 422

High School meets in room 217

Three adult classes include: "Current Events" led by Jim Risley in the parlor; "Life Application" meets

in Fellowship Hall 2 and is led by Julie Robbins, "History Of" meets downstairs in room 110 and is lead

by Randi McWilliams and Adam Todd.

HARVEST DINNER - Our Annual Harvest Dinner will be held on Friday, November 1, from 4:30 - 7:30

in the Fellowship Hall. We need everyone's help to continue this successful fundraiser, so please invite

your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers. The menu features ham, roast turkey, dressing,

mashed potatoes and gravy, candied sweet potatoes, green beans, kale, cranberries, rolls, drinks, and

dessert. Carry-out meals are available. Adult tickets are $20, children (aged 5 to 10) are $5.

Page 13: Creation Sunday 27 October 2019Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Dedication *Hymn of Preparation See insert “God Of Great And God Of Small” The Hebrew Bible Lesson

Carry-out meals are $20. It takes a lot of hands to make this work, so if you can lend yours, it would

be appreciated. Please contact Bonnie Thompson at 240-298-5389 if you would like to help.

BOX TOPS FOR MATULA - As you may know, for several years, there has been a plastic box in the

lobby available for those of you who are clipping and saving Box Tops for Matula Elementary School.

Well, now, NO MORE CLIPPING. No more bringing your Box Tops in. You can download the All-New

Box Tops App - designate Matula as your school of choice - shop as you normally would - then simply

scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit Matula with

your Box Top earnings. There are so many items on your store list these days that are qualifying for

credit. If you have any questions, contact Jean Sigmon at [email protected]. And, if you would

rather continue to clip your Box Tops, the box in the lobby will still be available.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS - Have you ever wondered about Spiritual gifts? Do you know what spiritual gifts

you possess? Perhaps, you wonder if your spiritual gifts have changed over the years, because as

Ecclesiastics 3 reminds us, everything has a season, and therefore we grow and change over time. In

the coming weeks we are going to ask everyone to complete a Spiritual Gifts Inventory. These will

be kept confidential and only you will see your own unique results. Remember, 1 Corinthians 12:7

(NLV) says…"The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all." We look

forward to having you all participate in this venture.

HOLIDAY SHOPPE AND BAKE SALE - Are you a crafter? Do you own your own business? Call the

church office, 301-934-2288 to get your application to rent space at our Holiday Craft Fair and Bake

Sale scheduled for Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 AM. We are asking for donations of your gently

used Christmas decorations for our "Recycled Christmas", and books of all kinds for our used book sale.

Please call the church office to schedule a time to deliver your items.

WORSHIPWORSHIP SCHEDULE - The Sunday morning worship schedule is: Café Worship at 8:30 AM in

Fellowship Hall 2, and Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary at 11:00 AM.

NURSERY IS AVAILABLE - Nursery care for little ones (ages 0-4 yrs) is available during the 11:00

Sunday morning service. If your little one becomes unsettled and is in need of more care, please

contact an usher who can direct you to the nursery or to the rocking chairs in the back. We are grateful

to the staff and volunteers that help us provide a nursery each week.

If you are a parent or a grandparent of young children, or you just want to spend some time with

the youngest in our congregation, consider signing up to volunteer in the Nursery. To volunteer, or for

information, contact Alyssa Wheeler at [email protected].

HEARING ASSIST DEVICES - are available, please see an usher to obtain one.

SERVICE & CARINGFOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP - The Food Pantry is requesting your donations of the following

items, grape jelly, canned peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, applesauce, (no peel off cups please),

pasta meal bags, baked beans, soups, children's juice boxes, snack items for kids (individual wrapped

cookies, cheese crackers etc.). You may place your donated items in the Food Donation Box in the front

entrance. Pet food donations are always appreciated. You can also make monetary donations, just

write "Food Pantry" in the memo line of your check, or give online.

FAITH SHARINGMEET A NEW FRIEND TODAY - As you enter Church today to worship, look around and see if you can

find someone you don't know. During Passing of the Peace, make a point to introduce yourself to them

Page 14: Creation Sunday 27 October 2019Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Dedication *Hymn of Preparation See insert “God Of Great And God Of Small” The Hebrew Bible Lesson

and invite them to join you in an activity of the Church. If you can't get to them during the Passing

of the Peace, hang around for a bit after worship and strike up a conversation with them. In time

you'll discover if they are long lost members, or here for the first time. Either way, you get to make

a new friend. Thank you for being one of the friendliest and most caring congregations around.

HAS GOD BLESSED YOU? - When God answers our prayers, or provides healing, or helps us find a job

or get a promotion; when God has touched our lives – we have a responsibility to tell others what God

has done. This is a great way to start a conversation about our faith with those who know us. Tell

them how you feel about being touched by God, or how God has answered your prayers.

PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way to share Christ with others:

just invite your friends to church with you. Most people who grew up as Christians and who aren't in

a church say they just haven't found a church they like, and because no one has invited them. Most

people if you ask, will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come to church for a special event, or

special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will help them.

ADMINISTRATIONCHURCH CONFERENCE - Our Church Conference will be held on Sunday, November 3 at 4:00 PM.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE - The Mission committee is looking for someone to serve as a coordinator

for the Red Cross Blood Drives. The coordinator would need to be present to organize the volunteers

from the church, receive the truck and the staff, be around to trouble shoot and close up after the

drive. Joyce Dean has been serving in this capacity for many years, but is unable to continue due to

her illness. Please call the church office if you are interested in volunteering or would simply like some

additional information.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS....1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to bepainful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. Youhave your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand yourvoice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you,and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself ifsomething might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, Ihave been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can'tbear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me ifyou are there, because I love you so.
