The Internet
‘The Internet’ refers to thephysical network that linkscomputers across the globe. Itconsists of the infrastructure ofnetwork servers andcommunication links betweenthem that are used to hold andtransport information between theclient PCs and web servers
World Wide Web (WWW)
The most common technique forpublishing information on theInternet. It is accessed throughweb browsers which display webpages of embedded graphics and
HTML/XML-encoded text.

All electronically mediatedinformation exchanges, bothwithin an organization and withexternal stakeholders supportingthe range of business processes.

Kalakota and Whinston (1997) refer to a range of different perspectivesfor e-commerce:
1. A communications perspective– the delivery of information,products or services or payment by electronic means.
2. A business process perspective– the application of technologytowards the automation of business transactions and workflows.
3. A service perspective– enabling cost cutting at the same time asincreasing the speed and quality of service delivery.
4. An online perspective– the buying and selling of products andinformation online.

Mougayer (1998) noted that the difference is not in the terms, butwithin services that can be offered to customers and the businessbenefits that are obtainable through e-business

Pure vs. Partial EC depends upon the degree of digitization
(the transformation from physical to digital) of:
• the product (service) sold;
• the process; and for
• the delivery agent (or digital intermediary)

Brick-and-Mortar organizations are old-economy organizations (corporations) that perform most of their business off-line, selling physical products by means of physical agents
Virtual (pure-play) organizations conduct their business activities solely online
Click-and-mortar organizations conduct some EC activities, but do their primary business in the physical world
