MAKERSPACES AND STEM "Makerspaces are

increasingly being looked to as a method for engaging learners in creative, higher-order problem-solving through hands-on design, construction, and iteration” –New Media Consortium Horizon Report K-12 Edition

Makerspaces build student competencies and interest in STEM skills

USING REAL TOOLS TO MAKE AND EXPLORE REAL QUESTIONS AND THINGS With active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a

deeper knowledge and understanding of the subjects they are studying.

Differentiation is present naturally.

Tinkering, designing, thinking, creating are outcomes of authentic work.

When students are engaged in “actively constructing knowledge from a combination of experience, interpretation and structured interactions with peers and teachers” (Roschelle et al., 2000, p.79), they are more likely to gain an expert understanding of science concepts.
