CREATING CUSTOMIZED ENVIRONMENT

Generally in Service Industries one has to work on projects of different companies. It is obvious that different companies have different standards and templates for them which are the result of years of Standardization. In those cases it is generally required and advised to create separate environment for different companies. While working with the projects of various OEM’s one is expected to get the following Input as far as CATIA V5 is concerned. CATCollectionStandards, Standards, CATUserSettingpath, CATReferenceSettingsPath This article aims at explaining how to create company specific environment on CATIA V5 windows platform. On next pages you will see step by step procedure to do the same:

Step 1: Go to Start > All Programs > CATIA > Tools > Environment Editor V5R16 to invoke the Environment Editor dialog box. Refer Fig A01.

Step 2: The Environment Editor dialog box is now invoked. CATIA will give Environment Editor Message stating that “As administrator you can create, modify and delete global environments”. Choose the OK button to confirm the modification of the environment. Refer Fig A02.

Step 3: To create new environment choose the New option from the Environment pull down menu of the Environment Editor dialog box. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + N keys from the keyboard. Refer Fig A03.

Step 4: The New Environment dialog box is now invoked. Refer Fig A04. Write the name of new environment “EDS” in the Name edit area. Also, choose the Global option from the Mode pull down menu. Choose the OK button to confirm the environment creation.

Step 5: You can now see that the EDS is added as a separate environment in the User Environments area. Refer Fig A05

Step 6: In Fig A06 you can see that a new icon is added in the name of EDS which can be used to launch the customized environment for EDS. Now create a folder in the name of EDS on the desktop.

Step 7: Create four folders inside the folder EDS that you have just now created and name them as follows: CATCollectionStandards CATReferenceSettingsPath Standards CATUserSettingPath Please refer Fig A07 for the same.

Step 8: Go inside the first folder namely CATReferenceSettingsPath and copy the complete path from the Address bar. Refer highlighted area in Fig A08

Step 9: Now, right click on the CATReferenceSettingsPath variable from the Name area of the Environments Editor dialog box to invoke the shortcut menu and choose the Edit Variable option from the shortcut menu. Refer Fig 09.

Step 10: The Variable Editor dialog box is now invoked. Paste the copied path in the Value edit box of the Variable Editor dialog box. Choose the OK button to confirm the assigned value for the variable. Refer Fig A10

Step 11: Repeat the above mentioned step for other variables and give the paths of other folders that have been created. Please refer Fig A11 detailed explanation.

Step 12: Close the Environment Editor dialog box. You will be prompted to save the modifications. To do so choose the Yes button from the Environment Editor Message dialog box. Refer Fig A12.

Step 13: As discussed in the beginning the inputs provided for customized environment are in the form of standard files, cat settings files etc. i.e CATCollectionStandards, Standards, CATUserSettingpath, CATReferenceSettingsPath Since you have linked the new environment with the folder that you have created earlier so all you have to do is copy the files given by the OEM from their folder to the respective folders that you have created. i.e: From, CATCollectionStandards provided to CATCollectionStandards created From, Standards provided to Standards created From, CATUserSettingpath provided to CATUserSettingpath created From, CATReferenceSettingsPath provided to CATReferenceSettingsPath created Step 14: To launch customized environment right click on the EDS icon on the desktop and choose the Open option from the shortcut. Please refer Fig A13
