• Ronald W. Reagan served as President from 1981-1989. He served two terms as a California congressman and was a successful actor previously.
• There was an unsuccessful assassination attempt on March 30th, 1981.
• 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days ending on January 19, 1981, minutes after Reagan’s swearing in as President.

• One of the largest political scandals in history came to light in November 1986 referred to as the Iran-Contra Affair where weapons had been sold to Iran, and the proceeds used by the CIA to aid Contras in Nicaragua.
• The 2nd largest stock market crash occurred Monday October 19th, 1987 referred to as Black Monday. U.S markets lost 22.61% in one day.
