Herbicide treatments at Cranberry Bog began in 1998 - 1999

Reed canary grass, bull thistle, Canada thistle, herb Robert and other weeds dominated the south end of Cranberry Bog in 2009.

Since two sensitive species have been documented at Cranberry Bog, funding was received from the Forest Service and BLM Interagency Special Status / Sensitive Species Program (ISSSSP) to support weed

treatments and an active restoration project at the Bog.

Additional funding and support also came from the Wildlife, Natives, and Fire Programs on the Olympic National Forest….

And of course we couldn’t have done it without our fabulous partners!

Accomplishments at Cranberry Bog 2010 - 2013 Two or three separate herbicide treatments have been completed every year for the last four years by Clallam County NWCB and FS staff.

Contractor planted 13,500 Carex obnupta plugs over two years.

We built a small nursery at the Quilcene Ranger Station to grow larger sedge plugs to supplement the small seedling plugs grown and planted by the contractors. Over

1000 of these large plugs have been planted so far by the WCC and FS staff, with another 1000 ready for planting this Spring.

WCC crew and Forest Service staff collected and planted 1500 live willow stakes, and 500 snowberry cuttings.

Seed collected from a variety of different species to supplement sedges.
