The keiller family built the estate as a private weekend retreat in 1891. During World War II, child evacuees and Army officers found shelter within its stone walls. When it was converted to a hotel in 1952, visitors found the Royal Deeside retreat of their dreams.

Today, that hotel has been completely transformed into thirty-two luxurious studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. The property shares thirty-three acres of lush woodlands with the Craigendarroch Lodges, which offer 99 additional accommodations in the heart of the hillside.
