Nov 2014 to Present Gibson NDT

I started with Gibson NDT in Aberdeen as an NDT Inspector. I am currently based at Metrol Technology as a 3rd party

inspector. Due to my past experience I did not have to undergo much training. My duties included;

Visual Inspection of premium and API connections

Conduct Magnetic Particle Inspections and Liquid Penetrant Inspections.

Provide customers with a detailed report after item has been fully inspected.

Dec 2013 to Aug 2014 TENARIS Global Services Aberdeen

I started with TENARIS in Aberdeen as a Field Service Specialist. Due to my past experience I did not have to undergo much training. My duties included;

Provide Rig Service Onshore Inspections Witness assembly make-ups Provide customers with a detailed report after casing

or tubing operations where Tenaris connections were used.

Jan 2008 to Aug 2013 VAM® FAR EAST Pte Ltd

I started with VAM® FAR EAST in Singapore as a trainee field service engineer in January 2008. VFE put me through an intensive course in premium connections. This included;

6 months intensive training in Scomi Oilfield Services Singapore machine shop (VAM Licensee) learning how to gauge premium connections.

Learning the aspects of premium connections and what each part does when torqued.

Learning all about the gauges used during machining. Learning all about the measuring equipment used and how to read it.

After 6 months, I was given a course by Scomi QA/QC department and VFE. I passed this test and was found to be proficient in calibration and gauging of premium connections.

6 months intensive training in VFE gauge department. VFE Gauge department rent premium and semi-premium throughout Asia. This is a

very busy service for VFE. My duties included

Checking all outgoing gauges had correct parts, were in calibration and suitable for the connections being cut by licensee.

Checking, Calibrating, repairing/sending for repair and recertifying gauges that had been returned from licensees.

Dealing directly with licensees and shipping companies on a daily basis. Dealing with gauge parts that required repair and calibration at a 3rd Party.

After 1 month I was running the gauge department on my own and continued to work there during my time in Singapore if I was not on a service job.

6 months intensive training at VFE/Woodside Karratha pipe yard. VFE run Woodside Energy’s Karratha pipe yard, I was put there to learn all aspects

of a busy pipe yard. Inspection of pipe, tubing and casing going to the rigs. This included cleaning,

drifting, VTI, Tallying and Re-greasing of all joints. Inspection of returned pipe, tubing and casing back from rigs. This included

cleaning, drifting, VTI, Tallying and Re-greasing of all joints. Pipe was cosmetically prepared as new and returned to stock.

Sending damaged pipe to machine shop for repair. Preparing Tally sheets for pipe that was rig ready when leaving the pipe yard. Keeping pipe yard in a safe and clean state.

After 6 months in Karratha, I was sent back to Singapore. I regularly returned to Karratha pipe yard when required during my time in Singapore.

1 month intensive training in Scomi Oilfield Services working with the bucking machine operator.

VFE witness all make ups done at Scomi for various clients. My duties included Learning all about making up premium connections on accessories. Working with real CRA Materials. Accessing torque figures for use on connections. Learning how to read a torque vs turn graph and accept or reject them.

Assembly make-ups are a big part of VFE’s business and I continued to supervise make-ups during my time in Singapore.

3 months training on the rig site in Cepu for Chevron as a trainee field service engineer

VFE’s main business is running VAM® connections during completion, liner and casing on rigs. Chevron agreed to let me work on their Cepu project as a 3rd man. While there I learnt

Rig safety. All aspects of running premium connections. Torque/Turn graph acceptance. Deck Inspections. Field repair of connections. Interacting with Drilling Supervisors, Tool pushers etc.

After 3 months, Chevron deemed me to be capable of working to the standards they accept. I was then part of the 2 man team and ran tubing unaided when required.

My Field Service career at VFE then took off and I was promoted to a Senior Field Service Engineer. I was sent to jobs worldwide alone and as part of a team. During my time at VFE I received constant good reviews about my attitude and work by customers. I was offered a promotion to supervise Woodside Energy’s Karratha pipe yard permanently in 2013 but I turned it down and resigned due to family issues and returned to UK.
