A Step-by-Step Demo
• How we can create our own web pages, and publish them to the University web server
• We can use any tool we like to create and publish the web pages. In the following steps I will use Word and WebDisk

Web Pages
• We’d better put all the pages and images in a folder
• Make the first page and save it– You’d better name it “index.html” (refer to the
last lab)– Images, links to other sites, link to my e-mail
address, …
• Create the second page, the third, …, all in a similar way– Use bookmarks for a long page
• Make links between each other

Check Locally
• Use a web browser to open the first page, navigate to other pages by the links, and check if the links and images are good.
• Try to move the folder to a new place and see if the images and links are still good.

Publish (1)• Login to WebDisk• If there is not “publish_html” folder, create
one• Put the web pages and images in the folder
“publish_html”• Try to visit the web pages by the address
“http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~username/...”– DO NOT double click the files in your webdisk
directly. This is not visiting the pages by an internet address

• If you are prompted to input password, you need to set permissions. The WebDisk disconnect window has a button for it.
• You will find it’s a good thing to name the first page as “index.html”
• Test again if everything works

Finally Hand in
• If everything is OK, you can hand in the assignment by e-mailing the web address to me.– The web address should be like
“http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~username/...”
