About the CPS
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)wrote this paper.
We work in England and Wales.
We decide if someone should go to courtwhen the police or other organisationsthink they have done a crime.
Sometimes we decide what crime theperson should be charged with.
2
We give information and support tovictims and witnesses.
Some words in this paper are in bold. There is a list of what they mean onthe last page.

About Outcomes
A law called the Equality Act protectspeople from discrimination andharassment and says everyone hasthe same right to use services.
Public organisations like the CPS musthave a plan to treat everyone fairly.
Outcomes say what will happen if wedo the things in our plan.
We are still working on these outcomes.
This paper is about our ideas.

Our outcomes
People will trust us
1. People will trust the CPS and believewe will treat them fairly. EspeciallyBlack Caribbean people and adultswith disabilities who do not trust theCriminal Justice System now.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● find out who lives in different areasand decide the best way to work withcommunities
● use Community Conversations to trynew ways of working with andinvolving people who often get left out
5
● members of the group that checks ourEquality and Diversity Objectives makesure we do what we say we are goingto do.
2. Everyone who works for us will knowthey must think about equality andfairness when they work with staffor the public.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● keep getting better at training staff, changing the way we work andchecking if we treat everyone fairly
● have a way to check whether we areincluding people and using our Equalityand Diversity Objectives
6
● support all our staff to get involved inworking with local communities.
We do really good casework
3. We will speak to people who areaffected by hate crime, women andgirls, people who have mental healthissues, learning disabilities and peoplewho are affected by knife crime andother crimes to make sure we getbetter at helping them.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● make sure the members of LocalScrutiny Involvement Panels comefrom all the communities affected byour casework
7
● involve people affected by crime in ourwork to look at how we treat peoplewith learning disabilities or mentalillness. So we can make it easier forthem as victims, witnesses ordefendants
● make sure we use information fromLocal Scrutiny Involvement Panelsto make our casework better and planour work.
4. We will make sure people can see andunderstand decisions we make aboutprosecutions. We will change things ifwe are not treating some people fairly.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● check our decisions do not treat somepeople less fairly than others
8
● check whether any parts of the CPStreat some people unfairly. Plan howto change things
● Tell people how we decide about prosecutions. Especially people who do not trust the CPS.
People who work for us do really well
5. Lots of different people will work forus. We will have staff from the samegroups as the communities we workwith.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● make sure all parts of the CPS haveplans to have staff from the samegroups as the people in thecommunities where they work
9
● support our staff to tell us things liketheir age, religion, race, disability orgender. This will mean we have betterinformation about the different peoplewho work for us
● keep checking our information aboutpeople who work for us to see if wetreat any groups unfairly.
6. We will support lots of different peopleto work for us, stay in their jobs anddo well.
What we will do in 2019 – 2020 to makethis happen:
● work with other organisations andgroups to understand what can thatstop some people doing well at work.Plan how to change things
10
● keep working with our plan to stopbullying and harassment at work
● check that we are not treating somepeople who work for us worse thanothers
● check how our plans or ways ofworking affect different people whowork for us. Change things if we findwe treat some people less fairly thanothers.
