INTRODUCTION

City Power utilises hardware and associated miscellaneous items during the installation of cables, switchgear and associated equipment. The implication to suppliers is that City Power will only purchase hardware, nuts and bolts that comply with the compulsory specification.

1 SCOPE

This specification covers City Power’s requirements for hardware. The items will be utilized primarily on the distribution networks.

2 REQUIREMENTS

2.1 General

All hardware shall be of an acceptable quality. Suppliers and manufacturers shall be held responsible by City Power for failures in the field.

2.2 Cable Support Equipment

The equipment is utilized to support cable trays where the mass of the cables is such that conventional tray systems would be inadequate. It is also used to mount compact switchgear in load centres.

2.2.1 Cable Support Equipment Dimensions

Cable support sections shall have a minimum wall thickness of 3mm. They shall not be capable of undue flexing throughout its length. This product is not to be confused with cable trunking of similar dimension, which lacks the necessary mechanical strength.

The pillar box spanner socket section shall be made of hardened metal at least 2 mm thick.

2.4 Wall and Floor Fixing Devices The equipment shall be supplied in robust containers. Instructions for use of the product shall be included in all containers. The instructions shall clearly state the safe loading that may be placed on the fixing device. Note: Only bolt type rawl bolts shall be utilized. The threaded rod and nut type devices are not suitable for use on the City Power network.

3 Labeling and packaging

3.1 Packaging shall prevent damage or deterioration of the product during transport, handling and storage.

3.2 The container shall be labelled with the contract number, City Power SAP number, supplier name, and basic product details.

4 Documentation

4.1 Full technical and descriptive details, relating to all the items offered in this enquiry, shall be submitted so the offer can be fully evaluated.

4.2 The information shall include:

a) Company history

b) Business address

c) Contact person and details

d) Product catalogue

4.3 City Power reserves the right to request samples of items for evaluation purposes.

5 Quality Assurance

A quality management system shall be set up in order to assure the quality of the hardware during design, development, production, installation and maintenance. Guidance on the requirements for a quality management system may be found in the following standards: SANS (or SABS ISO) 9000, 9001 and 9004. The details shall be subject to agreement between the purchaser and supplier.
