WELCOME TO THE COWRA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB

We hope you will become involved in many of our activities and enjoy the swimming season. This booklet aims to give you a summary of club rules, organization and activities so you can be familiar with what is happening in your club. Swimming Club commences at 6.00pm each Tuesday night with the last event in the water by 8.45pm. People on timekeeping duty need to be at the pool by 5.45pm to set up ropes and timing equipment as well as to pack away this equipment at the conclusion of the night.

CODE OF CONDUCT In accordance with the guidelines set down by Swimming Australia, the Cowra Amateur Swimming Club has adopted the following Code of Conduct.

• Abide by the rules of swimming. • Never argue with an official. • Verbal abuse and sledging of officials, coaches and swimmers is

not acceptable behaviour. • Be a good sport! Applaud all good performances. • Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor. • Cooperate with your coach, team mates and opponents. • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless

of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. • Refer to Swimming Australia Code of Conduct 2010.

SWIMMING CLUB SEASON Swimming Club operates every Tuesday from October to March throughout the 2017-2018 pool season, with the first club night to be held on 10th October 2017. There are no club nights on 26th December 2017,2nd January 2018 and 9th

January 2018 due to the Christmas break. Swimming club nights resume on Tuesday, 16th January 2018. The annual Christmas party will be held on 19th December 2017 in conjunction with the usual program of club night events. If it is raining heavily at 6.00pm and there is no sign of the rain easing, Club racing will be called off for that night. Entries will have to be re-entered and WILL NOT BE CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT WEEK.

MEETINGS Committee meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.00pm at the Cowra Aquatic Centre during summer. Input from Club members and parents is always appreciated. The Annual General Meeting will be advised. Notice will be given in the Club Members and on the website three weeks prior to the set date of the AGM.

FUNDRAISING Throughout the year the Club conducts fund raising activities to supply equipment and facilities to enable YOUR swimming club to function. The Club executive raises thousands of dollars during the year through events such as BBQ’s, swimathon. Your participation in future fundraising events would be greatly appreciated. Please support your club and children.

MEMBERSHIP Membership fees for the 2017/2018 season are $140.00 for the first family member and $105.00 for each additional family member. For insurance purposes ALL swimmers MUST by registered as a swimmer before taking part in any Swimming Club races, carnivals or any training sessions in Cowra Swimming Club allocated lanes. If a swimmer decides they do not wish to continue with Swimming Club after 2 weeks, registration fees will be refunded. This offer is only available to new members. The membership fee of $20.50 is for non-swimming members for parents/caregivers to vote at meetings and covers public liability insurance. All Committee members MUST be registered with the Club, either as a swimmer or non-swimmer.

The membership fee includes a family levy of $35.00 per family. This levy can be recouped by selling of raffle tickets. These must be returned before the raffle is drawn at Presentation Night 2018.

• Online entries will open at 10am Wednesday morning and will be closed off

on the following Monday at midday. • ENTRIES CLOSE AT MIDDAY ON THE SUNDAY BEFORE CLUB. NO

LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Please do not ask for late entries to be considered.

• Time sheets will be kept by the race secretary and posted on the Club notice

board.

ORDER OF EVENTS

Beginner events for 12.5m Freestyle and 12.5m BBB (Backstroke, Breaststroke or Butterfly) are conducted at each club night. For this event only, swimmers may use back bubbles and have a competent swimmer in the water with them.

Order of Events Special Event (100m Events) 12.5 Freestyle and BBB 25m events 50m events Distance (200m/400m Events)

Each week the special event rotates and the strokes for the 50m events also rotate. 50m and 25m events are swum for 4 out of the 4 strokes each week.

Freestyle is defined by Swimming NSW rules as being any stroke. Strokes are defined as Butterfly, Backstroke and Breaststroke. Events will be called by the Marshall over the loud speaker. Once called for an event, swimmers are to remain quietly in the marshalling area whilst other events are in progress.

POINTSCORE Competition points are awarded for club night events as follows:

7 points – 2 seconds or more faster than best time 6 points – 1.0-1.9 seconds faster than best time 5 points – 0.1-0.9 seconds faster than best time 4 points – first swim at distance or equal to best time 3 points – 0.1-0.9 seconds slower than best time 2 points – 1.0-1.9 seconds slower than best time 1 point – 2 seconds or more slower than best time

For the purpose of calculating points, best times are updated weekly. Swimmers who stroke incorrectly on Swimming Club nights MAY be informed of such verbally by a judge of stroke. This allows the swimmer opportunity to work on changing these flaws before championship and school events where they may be disqualified.

ROSTERS

Each family involved with the Swimming Club is required to help with rosters for timekeeping. A roster of Swimming Club families will be available on our first club night. It is estimated that a family will have rostered duties for three in the season. On behalf of the club, we request that a representative attends or organises a suitable replacement for the days they are rostered. The roster will be available for viewing on the swimming club website.

Duties of families rostered for timekeeping include helping with lane ropes before and after Swimming Club and putting out and taking in the timing equipment at the end of the night. Please ensure that a representative is available to help from 5.45pm on the nights nominated to time keep. The Chief Timekeeper is available to assist anyone who is unsure of what to do.

COACHING/TRAINING Swimming Coaches for this season are Di Browne, Pat Charnock & Kerry Lewis and Bree Smith.

All coaches have read the Child Protection and Intervention Policy, signed the Declaration form and have had the mandatory child protection checks carried out as legally required by Swimming NSW. All people using allocated training lanes under the guidance of club coaches must be registered with Cowra Swimming Club. Squads are open to all members of the club who are 18 years or under. Squad training is offered at various levels to suit the developmental swimming level of a range of swimmers, with sessions structured to accommodate all swimmers, dependent upon their ability. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Club Championships will be held on three consecutive Tuesday evenings during February and March 2018 (dates to be advised). Swimmers’ ages are taken as of the first date of the championships and appropriate swimwear which abides by the rules of Swimming NSW should be worn. To be eligible for club championships, swimmers must have competed six times in each stroke entered. To enter a medley event, swimmers must have swum at least six times in each stroke. 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m are classified as one swim each towards qualification. Eight year olds and under need only swim two

Swimmers are expected to perform strokes in accordance with FINA rules and will be disqualified under the same rules should there be technical flaws in the championship race. Programs for upcoming carnivals will be displayed in the foyer of the Aquatic Centre as well as on the website. These include qualifying times to representative carnivals.
