FROM OUR PASTORSTo Our Church Members, Past and Present, as well as Friends of CFC:

Over 29 years ago, God planted Covenant Fellowship Church on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. One morning as Pastor Min was praying, God etched onto his heart the desire to produce workers for the kingdom of God (Matthew 9:37-38). It is with this vision that God has been working in the members of CFC but also through the members of CFC to become workers for God.

As we reflect back on 2018, we can see how God has been working faithfully in the members of CFC. Although the church has been in the same location since 1990, the demographics of CFC membership have changed since it first began. Many more out-of-state and international students can be found attending small groups and other church events as the admission of these students has increased at the University of Illinois. The number of non-university students also continues to grow as post-graduates settle down in the community to work and build their families. With the increase of post-graduates living in the community, the number of children attending our church also continues to increase. In addition to being a church with

many different age groups, we also have a diversity of ethnicities, with over twenty different ethno-linguistic groups represented at CFC. Although the demographics of the church have changed, through the preaching of God's Word and prayer, God continues to minister to the members of CFC.

God has also been working through the members of CFC to share His love with the world. Whether it has been through events such as the New Student Week Picnic or the Summer Festival, programs such as the Summer Missions Programs, or ministries such as International Student Connection, we are doing our best to share God's love with the world.

It is our hope and prayer that CFC will be a church that will serve and love the Lord maximally, so that God will be maximally glorified in and through our lives. We desire for every day we live to be the day that we love Jesus the most. Difficulties may come along the way, but through the Word and prayer, we will fix our eyes on the One who is and always be faithful. May God be praised!

Raising workers for His kingdom!

The Sunday School ministry is a partnership with families in planting seeds of the gospel into young hearts and minds. Our hope and prayer is that God will raise up seedings that will sprout up through laying building blocks of faith through the Word and encouraging a heart of worship and relationship with Christ at an early age (Isaiah 61:11). The weekly schedule includes Worship, a Bible Story and small group discussion for ages PreK-5th grade each Sunday during the 12:30PM service. We are currently using Lifeway's Gospel Project curriculum.

The Nursery ministry provides care for one- to two-year-old children during the 12:30PM service on Sundays when there are 2 services. During this time, the children eat lunch and have play time. The two-year-old children also have “Story Time,” which is a short worship time with a Bible lesson, prayer, songs, and an activity.

MISSIONS SUPPORTED BY CFC

The vision of CFC is Matthew 9:37-38, to produce Kingdom workers. To this end, we partner with a number of workers by supporting them through prayer and finances. Listed below are various seminarians, ministries, and missionaries CFC supports.

-11-

JAPANTeam Leader: Rev. Tony Thomas & Rev. David KangMay 29 - June 1912 participants

The purpose of this trip was to enable college students and working professionals of our church to serve in a cross-cultural ministry context in Osaka, Japan alongside J-House Church, whom we've partnered with since 2004. Part of our time was spent visiting a local college campus and sharing the Gospel with different students, and connecting them to the local church. The other part of our trip was spent focusing on building up and strengthening J-House by doing inductive Bible studies, leading prayer groups, and training at the leadership level.

SUMMER MISSIONS PROGRAM

In addition to supporting people serving as full-time workers overseas, CFC also participates in the Great Commission by sending out short-term teams in the summer. Participants began preparing for SMP in February 2018, learning about the culture, raising support, and most importantly, laying a foundation of prayer.

SHORT-TERM MISSIONS

KENYATeam Leader: Rev. Sean LeeMay 30 - June 2811 participants

We partnered with Missionary Lee, a missionary we have been working for over 25 years. In our time there, we supported local churches and a local school. Our ministry consisted of Vacation Bible School for children, revival meetings and house to house evangelism. One of the weeks, we helped disciple about 150 teenagers by studying the Bible together and sharing testimonies.

MIDDLE EASTMEDICAL TEAMTeam Leader: Harold Yoon & Danny LeeMarch 16 - March 255 participants

CFC followed up on the previous year's English teaching team with a medical team that partnered with Joe and Joyce Lee, full time missionaries sent by our church. We provided primary health care to refugees in the capital city and also an outlying city. We saw Syrian, Yemeni, and Sudanese refugees, who are mostly without status and therefore lack access to doctors. We saw 400 patients in 4 clinic days, giving medicine, injections, and spine manipulations. We were able to pray with them in the name of Jesus. We learned that many are open to knowing more about Jesus, yet the stigma and strong Muslim culture fight against a more effective witness. Pray that Joe and Joyce will follow up with many of these contacts, through their local church, and that one day Jesus' name would be freely proclaimed.

SUMMER SCHOOLOverseeing Administration: Paul Han, Sarah Choi, Mike Park, Chris Joung (Volunteer Coordinator), Paul Chae (Finances) [Rev. KJ Kim, Education Pastor] June 18 - July 20 (Teacher Training Week: June 11-15)

21 teachers52 volunteers123 children

From our humble beginnings with a small group of Sunday School students, CFC Summer School has become a five-week program, which includes many children from the community as well. We continue to strive for a quality program (four week academic and one week VBS curriculum) through which we actively participate in domestic missions. Our purpose is teach and train all attending children the Gospel to ultimately impact generations to come.

WE BELIEVE...... the Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original manuscripts, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

... in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

... that Jesus Christ is the true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, arose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of God the Father; He is our High Priest and Advocate.

... that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore totally lost, unable to save himself, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can he obtain salvation and eternal life.

... that only those whom God calls in His grace, through no choice of their own, will express faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

... that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ through faith and repentance become children of God.

... that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church during that present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.

... that the true Church is composed of all regenerated believers who are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the Head.

... in the personal and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this hope has a vital bearing on the present personal life and service of the believer.

... in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
