from Psalm 27 The Lord is our light and our salvation. Whom shall we fear? The Lord is the strength of our life; of whom shall we be afraid? We shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage.
INVOCATION Cara Edstrom Descend upon our hearts, Spirit of God, for our wills are weak, and we need your grace. Our spirits are anxious, and we need your forgiveness. Our minds are confused, and we need your truth. Our emotions are bruised, and we need your comfort. Our very being is broken, and we need your healing. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

1 Why do the nations conspire, and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds asunder, and cast their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision.
5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 “I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill.”
7 I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, with trembling 12 kiss his feet, or he will be angry, and you will perish in the way; for his wrath is quickly kindled.

1 O Lord, God of my salvation, when, at night, I cry out in your presence, 2 let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry.
3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. 4 I am counted among those who go down to the Pit; I am like those who have no help, 5 like those forsaken among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand. 6 You have put me in the depths of the Pit, in the regions dark and deep. 7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves.
8 You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a thing of horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape; 9 my eye grows dim through sorrow.
