MINUTES Monday, 9 February 2004
I. The meeting was called to order at 1802 hours.

II. Updates Calendar of Events • Please notify Jason of any winter and/or spring events, functions, meetings, and/or fundraisers at
your station for the Calendar of Events. • Jason distributed updated calendars. • The most updated version of the calendar can be found on the website.
Sirens • A copy of the Winter Sirens was included in the packet of information that was given out. • Sirens was on the website a week before it was printed. • Sirens was downloaded over 700 times from the time it was put on the site until last week. • Please post the flyer for Spring 2004 Sirens submissions needed. Training • Albemarle County Fire Rescue Regional School – 27-28 March at Monticello High School. • The Spring Volunteer Training Academy Graduation is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 22 June
2004, 1900 Hours at the County Office Building in Lane Auditorium. Radio Advertising • No update.
Newspaper/Print Advertising • No update.

Photo ID Program • No update. Preferred Pricing Program • Carmike Cinemas is no longer offering the price of 0.50 cents for a movie. Laurie Byers is checking
with Carmike about this. So far all other businesses are still participating. If anyone knows of any other businesses that would like to participate, please contact Jason or Laurie with their information so they can be contacted.
CATEC Emergency Services Program • No update.
Open Forums • The next Open Forum will be on the northside of the County. It has been tentatively scheduled to be
at Earlysville Volunteer Fire Company on 7 April at 1900 hours. Due to the budget hearing this forum was moved from the original date. Please post the new flyer in your stations.
• The last open forum was at East Rivanna. There were about 15 to 16 people at this forum from East Rivanna. Pam said that this meeting went very well and she encourages everyone to attend one.
Website • The Albemarle County Fire Rescue web site was the third most visited webpage on the County’s
website. • Sirens was the seventh most downloaded document on the site. • The Volunteer Service Application is now online. Once an application is submitted a copy will be
forwarded out to the R&R or membership representative for the requested station. Jason thanked Elaine Pack in Information Technology and Christina, for working so diligently to help make this happen.
III. Unfinished Business
Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Plan • Jason proposed for the annual review of the Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Plan to be
conducted at the April meeting. The biggest review will be that everything may have to be pushed back a year.
Volunteer Tax Voucher • No report.
FY 2004-05 Strategic Initiatives Budget Requests • The public hearing on the FY 2004-05 Budget is on Wednesday, 14 April at 1800 hours at the
County Office Building in Room 241. • The Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Plan was ranked sixth by the Fire Rescue Advisory Board.
Discussion followed. Volunteer Health/Dental/Vision Benefits • No report.
IV. New Business
National Child Passenger Safety Week • Two posters were in everyone’s packet of information. Please post these. The Child Passenger
Safety Week is 8-14 February. There will be a Child Safety Fest held at Monticello Fire & Rescue on Sunday, 15 February from 1200 to 1600 hours.
National EMS Week
• National EMS Week is 16-22 May. The reception is tentatively scheduled for 18 May at 1800 hours in the Lobby area of the County Office Building. More information will be forthcoming.

County Government Day • County Government day is scheduled for Wednesday, 5 May. Please place this date on your
calendars. More information will be forthcoming.
Albemarle County Fair • Albemarle County Fair will be 24-29 August 2004. Please place this date on your calendars. More
information will be forthcoming.
