I first saw these vintage sock forms in the current issue of Country Living, and instantly I fell in LOVE with everything...but I really I knew I had to have some sock forms, somehow...but where?

DIY IT!1. I free-handed one sock form on the basswood and cut it out. Then

used it to make patterns for the other sock forms. I made various sizes...some short, some thicker, some long and skinny.

2. Cut along the lines of the sock form with the Dremel. Even though this was not a jigsaw (and probably not the easiest/intended use) for the Multi Max I was pleasantly surprised how well it handled and cut even the curved lines. {Seriously I am a BIG chicken when it comes to cutting...and I was whipping through these toward the end).

3. Once cut out, I attached the sander to the Dremel and really sanded the edges to a rounded edge and took off any rough spots from the wood (the thin wood splintered a bit when I cut it...but it still worked for me...but that is why I why to try these in a thicker piece of wood). It took a bit of sanding to round off the edges.

4. Drill one hole in each stocking, about 1 " down from the top and cen

tered.5. Wipe clean and prepare to stain and age the forms.6. I beat up each form in particular areas with a screw driver - just

pounded it in to create divots.7. The first layer of color comes from the DecoArt Staining and

Antiquing Medium combined with the Light Cinnamon. I started with a lighter base and built my "stain" and layers of "faux old" up from there. Brush on and wipe off with a rag.

8. The second layer of color comes from the DecoArt Staining and

Antiquing Medium combined with the Asphaltum. Brush on, making it heavier in certain areas and wipe off.

9. The final layer of color comes from the DecoArt Staining and Antiquing Medium combined with the Burnt Umber.

10.Let dry and spray with the Deft Wood Finish to give the form a protective coat and a nice sheen.

11.Add the twine or string. I just used simple dollar store twine, threaded it through the hole form behind and tied 3 knots in it.

Ta-Da! All done. I LOVE them!

I had to take some liberties...These are not exact replicas...I used a very thin Basswood sheet to cut them out. I like the thicker wood, so I think I will be making some more out of a thicker wood - I need a jigsaw badly (do you hear me Santa...or hubby?)! I am adding a mantel to next years Wish List too!
