    Thank yo to everyone who attended a Regional

    Consltation or made a Sbmission and contribted to or

    discssion o how to bild a more Modern Labor Party.

    Ten Regional Consltations have been held arond NSW,

    with ve in Contry NSW Wagga Wagga, Batemans Bay,

    Tamworth, Orange and Cos Harbor.The Committee will now meet to consider the Sbmissions,

    eedback rom the Consltations and condct rther

    research.

    The Committee will then present their ndings in Jne, with any

    Rles changes to be adopted at the 2009 Annal Conerence.

    The good news is that the overall aected area

    has redced rom arond 800 kilometres to 500

    kilometres, Phil Costa said.

    The stretch o Mrray River rom the Hme Dam at

    Albry to Echca/Moama remains on Red Alert.

    A new section o river rther downstream at Eston

    has also been placed on red alert and Glpa Creekat Mathora also remains on red alert.

    The NSW Government will now

    co-nd workshops with localbsinesses to rther encorage

    economic development in Lithgow.

    An economic development strategy

    will help the Concil, bsiness

    commnity and other commnity

    grops decide how best to

    encorage new bsiness and plan

    or Lithgows tre prosperity,

    Minister or Agricltre, Fisheries and

    Forestry Tony Brke has visited both

    regions to talk to aected armers.

    Prime Minister Kevin Rdd and

    Victorian Premier John Brmby

    annonced a $51 million assistance

    package or bshre-aected armers

    and small bsinesses, inclding p

    ront payments and low interest loans.Tony Brke and the Minister or the

    Environment Peter Garrett have also

    annonced nding or Landcare-style

    work to protect sensitive waterways

    and control weeds.

    The Victorian res destroyed nearly

    300 hectares o orchards, nearly

    280 hectares o vines and more than

    1,000 hectares o olives, nearly 7000

    hectares o sotwood and

    hardwood plantations.

    More than 1500 sheep,

    more than 980 bee cattle

    and more than 650,000

    sh were killed.

    In addition, there was

    signicant inrastrctre

    damage, inclding more

    than 7000km o encing,

    17 dairies, more than 350

    hay sheds and more than

    780 machinery sheds.

    In Northern Astralia,

    armers will not know the ll etento the losses cased by foods,

    inclding calves ntil arond Jne,

    when mstering is nderway.

    The Astralian and Qeensland

    Governments made $3 million

    available or odder drops and more

    than 400 bales o hay were delivered.

    This is in addition to measres nder

    the Astralian Government Disaster

    Plan or Qeensland, provisions

    nder the Natral Disaster Relie and

    Recovery Arrangements, and low

    interest loans and reight sbsidies

    or aected primary prodcers.

    Tony Brke has also rged consmers

    to spport or armers by being more

    tolerant o rit and vegetables that

    may be blemished de to the etreme

    weather events.
