“I have just visited some of the FARM’s spaces, in particular the pavilion dedicated to the cities of New York and Chica-go; I am very impressed both by the content and the context of these installations.I am thus glad that the Cultural Office of the United States’ Embassy, that today I represent, contributed to fund this event. Cities are the places where the present and the future of humanity are being played out.Day after day, in any part of the world, they manifest increasing complexity and inequality. They have a continuous and urgent need to be reinvented.There are no miracle cures, no manuals to be meticulously followed, and everyone realizes that the top-down approach has been a failure. More often than not, public authorities fail or struggle to find solutions to these challenges. At the same time, a global movement of active citizens is researching, experimenting and testing new behaviors, activities and services for their own communities of reference.Design plays a crucial role in this new round. How do you involve the largest number of citizens and public authorities in the process of enhancing your neighborhood over the long-term?
How can the emergence of new forms of civic leadership in service of the community be facilitated?What are the tools that can facilitate experimentation to enhance under-utilized spaces or improve the quality of public spaces that already exist?

The analysed case study is the favela Guapira II, Jardim Filhos da Terra neighbourhood, located in the northern area of Sao Paulo, Brazil.This was documented through an integrated survey to represent its social, morphological and typological residential features.The documentation is aimed at the representation of the local culture of living for an awareness-raising process to give value to the local cultural landscape and to lay the foundations for more site-specific design approaches.The survey is concluded by suggesting a project of two public open spaces, that, to be fully respected by the community, function as ecumenical churches.

The density in Hong Kong becomes volume, colour, sound but between the spaces of this density we can read life (photography, urban spaces, life inside domestic spaces, protest, rural area) where everything perhaps changes or is changing. The Pavilion of Hong Kong as a «Cave» (upside down Hong Kong) that stimulates the 5 senses of the Future between technology, sounds, smells, allowing visitors to have a tactile and visual experiences.Here, through holes in the fabrics, there are new design clothes made recycled fabrics, photographic images, writing stories, sounds, smells and fabrics to touch and also to create.

Il Padiglione propone l’esplorazione di Tanger\Maroc, Redeyef\Tunisie e Irbid\Jordanie attraverso tre piattaforme culturali che sono attive in queste città. Mette in rete queste piattaforme culturali e gli spazi a cui hanno dato forma. Dal Marocco alla Tunisia sino alla Giordania queste tre piattaforme dise-gnano una traiettoria che attraversa una delle regioni meno integrate del mondo.

Il padiglione napoli e’ stato pensato nell’ottica dell’inclusione, condivisione e collaborazione, per questo ci teniamo a sottolineare che alla base del progetto vi e’ un grande lavoro di interazione tra gruppi e una forte ricerca dedicata alle tematiche proposte.i temi di sostenibilita’ ed innovazione tecnologica sono visibili in tutto il percorso dal carattere interattivo, e risponde anche alle nuove temati-che del green, della rivalutazione dell’artigianato e dell’adattabilita’ abitativa.Il percorso si alterna in luci ed ombre per evidenziare gli aspetti steriotipati della citta’ (il culto, la superstizione, simboli iconici, ecc), piuttosto quelli meno conosciuti ma comunque presenti (sostenibilita’ ambientale, economica e sociale).

Eppure la città nordica è anche caratterizzata da un notevo-le fermento culturale, che si declina in numerosi progetti bottom-up, nati cioè dall’iniziativa e dalla partecipazione degli abitanti. ‘Brussels: the com-munity-driven city’ nasce dalla volontà di raccontare un aspetto meno noto della metropoli belga, svelandone un volto inconsueto ed a tratti strabilian-te.Cittadini che si uniscono per resistere ad un pressante mercato immobiliare, associazioni culturali che formano artigiani nel centro cittadino, centri arti-stici che rinnovano giganteschi edifici abbandonati sono alcune delle realtà che vengono presentate in questo inedito ritratto di Bruxelles vista dal basso.

Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second-most populous city of the UAE – after Dubai.Covering an area of approximately 67 000 sq km, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest emirate in the UAE – accounting for around 87% of the total land area of the federation. Abu Dhabi has around 200 islands lying along its 700 km long coastline.Just east of the city lies the Mangrove National Park, The protected area is around 20 sq km and includes mangrove forests, salt marshes, mudflats and is home to more than 60 bird species. This is a Mangrove sanctuary. The view is astonishing. You could walk and relax and also go kayaking.

Queste aree urbane ad alta densità abitativa ed edilizia saranno riprogettate in chiave green attraverso la capacità naturale delle piante di abbattere le sostanze inquinanti, ripristinare il suolo e lo spazio alla fruizione della comunità, e trasformare le aree marginali in veri e propri hub verdi all'interno della città.

Documentario sul Villaggio Eni di Borca di Cadore (BL), realizzato negli anni '50 dall'architetto Edoardo Gellner perl'Eni di Enrico Matt.Il documentario ricostruisce un’avventura nata da due uomini straordinari, uniti nel realizzare un esperimento architettonico e sociale unico nel suo genere: il Villaggio ENI “Corte di Cadore”, un centro turistico concepito e progettato per le vacanze montane dei dipendenti del gruppo petrolifero e delle loro famiglie.

La città di Santiago del Cile ha una dimensione sociale e urbana molto particolare e quasi unica tra le varie capitali del mondo. È noto che la città, così come tutto il Cile, a causa della sua sfavorevole condizione tettonica, ha sofferto di disastri che hanno da un lato creato problemi alla popolazione, a livel-lo di minaccia, ma d’altra parte hanno accresciuto il suo spirito di resistenza, e la sua resilienza.
