Education System in US is very flexible. It’s completely different from other systems. It is more of practical work rather than theoretical.

USA universities offer flexibility in choice of courses. Students even have an option to change from one university to another university.

Students are globally exposed in their field of interest. Many opportunities are available for the students who did their higher studies or Masters Degree from a US university.

Generally, research work in US Colleges is very good with experienced faculty and lab facilities. Students who apply for PhD get admission with full fee waivers/assistantships.

Generally, tuition fees, living expenses are affordable. Students manage to get financial help from the colleges, mostly from 2nd semester.

Majorly you have 3 intakes Fall – August / September Spring – December / January Summer – May / June

Fall is the major intake, all colleges have fall intake and all courses are available for this intake.

For fall semester intake of students would be more and funding opportunities and visa rate will also be high.

Spring is also a major intake but not all colleges are open for spring only some will have and funding chances will also be less.

Summer intake, very less number of colleges are available and all courses will not be available for summer intake.

Masters @ USA

Mostly students prefer fall and spring intake only. Masters in USA is normally 2 years. There is no percentage cut-off but it depends on the university which we apply,

most of the universities they ask for good Percentage and based on merit they give funding to international students.

GRE score around 1000-1100 is considered to be a decent score; universities accept scores less than 1000 as well, most of the universities GRE is a must and we even have universities which don’t require GRE at all .

TOEFL / IELTS is mandatory. Students who are planning for MBA - GMAT is mandatory, but if you have good

work experience with less GMAT score also - students still have chances.

Verbal Reasoning Skills. Quantitative Reasoning Skills. Analytical Reasoning Skills.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – TOEFL measures English proficiency of students who wish to enter colleges in United States.

2. How to register for the exams? The test fee is $170. Registration of the test is done in three ways:

6. How do I report my scores to the university?ETS (Education Testing Society) will allow you to report the scores to a maximum of four universities in the exam for free. If you want to report your scores additionally you can also report through telephone (ISD) by calling ETS (NEW JERSEY) and you will be charged.

9. How many days does it take for receiving my GRE / TOEFL score reports?It takes 1 or 2 months to receive your score reports. On an average, it takes 40 days In order to receive your score reports. For GRE you will get to know your score on the same day of your exam (will not get the score card but can just simply note your score)For TOEFL you get to know your scores online within 15 working days after taking the test.

10. What should I do if I don’t receive my score cards or if my score cards are misplaced?Make a mail to ETS providing your details, date on which you have taken the test and ask whether they have sent your score card to the correct address or not. If they have sent the score card then verify it with your nearest post office and if you don’t receive your score cards then ask them to send the duplicate copy of it, specifying the correct postal address.

11. How much does ETS charge to reschedule your exam date?ETS will charge you $50 to reschedule either GRE or TOEFL. You can reschedule before 3 working days prior to the exam date.

12. What if I receive a letter indicating “non – payment of fees from ETS”?The situations in which you can receive such a letter: ETS might send you this kind of letter if you reschedule your exam If you don’t have enough balance in your credit card ,the payment will be declined Sometimes payment will be done but if you call up ETS the payment will be due.

The solution for all these above issues is just one- pay again, even if the problem is not from your side. If you skip the payment and in case if you want to apply to any university in future, then ETS doesn’t provide any services like GRE score reporting, etc.

13. What if the university reports me that they did not receive my score cards?There is a probability that the university might not receive your GRE scores though you have done the score reporting through ETS. In such a case, put a mail to the university indicating your details; the day on which you have sent the scores and assure them that “probably you might be receiving in 2 or 3 weeks”. If it has been a long time since, you have sent the scores and the universities still have not received your scores then you can even call up ETS about the order and can request them to resend the score cards .

1) Give me introduction of IELTS? IELTS – International English language testing system. IELTS is designed to assess the English language ability of the candidates. IELTS uses a unique 9.0 scoring system to measure and report test scores in a consistent manner

wherever and whenever the test is taken. It is jointly managed by university of Cambridge ESOL examinations, the British council and IDP

education Australia and they charge Rs. 7200/- There are two versions of IELTS:

Academic Version General Training Version

Academic version is intended for students who wish to do masters or under graduate course. General training version is intended for those who wish to gain work experience. The cut – off score is 6.0 out of 9.0, but most of the US, UK & AUS universities ask for 6.5+. There are 2 centers in Hyderabad conducting these exams, IDP and British council.

4.1 Greeting, Building Rapport:

As soon as a student walks-in, wish each other and start a general conversation to make them feel at home. You can ask him/her “which college you’re from? Which branch?” Say them, we have lot of students coming from your college” and give them the details of the students coming from their college and give the details of the colleges which they have applied.

Later on, ask them about their percentage, GRE and TOEFL scores. Then comment on their percentage, GRE & TOEFL scores

Ask the student about their seniors/ relatives studying in US. Ask his preferences like place, funding, on-campus. If he prefers any universities, give some information about those universities and comment on them.

For example, if the student is willing to apply for 3-4 universities, suggest to the student to apply for 5-6 universities based on the profile.

If the student’s GRE is less then ask him/her to retake the test. And if he is willing to retake the exam, then suggest the student about our training. Mention about our BMT (Basic Math’s Training) classes and highlight that these “Classes are Free”.

5.1 Retaking GRE

See if the students profile is very good and GRE score is less, then suggest them some universities list, but ask them to retake GRE if they are willing to or else if they are not willing to retake GRE, try to motivate them to take GRE, with your present GRE you may get into good schools but if you want to get into better universities matching your profile then its better if you retake GRE.

If your GRE score is good visa chances will also be high, mainly visa officers look for good profile with good scores.

Counselor should be very strong in deciding whether to take or not, if the counselor itself is in a dilemma then unnecessarily we are creating a confusing state to student, so counselor has to be very strong.

5.2 Retaking TOEFL

If the students TOEFL score is moderate with 71-79/below 71 then ask them to retake TOEFL or else to take up IELTS exam which is equivalent to this, but the only thing is TOEFL is a little bit tough and IELTS is comparatively easier and both have relatively similar pattern.

If the student still wants to apply with the same score then inform him/her that s/he will have to take up IEP (Intensive English Program, which is very expensive). This course is given, only when the TOEFL score is less than the university cut-off.

You can start masters program only when you clear this IEP exam. Student has only some selected range of schools, which he can apply for, but if the

test is retaken the he can apply for more universities (which they wish to apply for).

Generally for low profiles, just suggest retaking TOEFL for namesake because most of them will not be interested. Most of the students will be in an attitude that, if I get an I20 which has good visa rate is more than enough.

6.1 Process @ i20fever

Once the student is registered @ I20fever, they will get the final list of universities, once they are finalized with the universities list you have to call up the counselor and book slot for online applications. After confirming slot you have to download RTF Form www.i20fever.com/student.rtf and fill in all the details & have to mention the finalized list and forward this form.

After receiving this form, we start filling online applications on student’s name, on the day of applying you have to come to verify all the details and then submit the form by entering credit card details.

On the day of applying you have get credit card details and recommendation letter details.

You can report your GRE & TOEFL scores on the same day/ any day you wish. If you’re ready with all the documents you can post them within 1 week or 15 days

from the day of applications. Further if you have any doubts, you can just call on this number (give counselor’s

number).

6.2 University Selection Factors

First and foremost thing is one must take GRE & TOEFL in order to do masters. Once you’re done with GRE & TOEFL next thing would be university selection.

There are a lot of factors to be considered while selecting universities, Program – Area of Interest Profile match universities Dead lines Tuition fees Financial aid Reputation Assistantships Cost of living

By looking at all these factors you have to finalize the university list.

6.3 Supporting Documents

List of documents to be collected. Once if you’re done with the selection process, then the list of documents needed

for applying are SSC / Inter Xerox copies attested by the principal / gazette officer B.Tech / B.E transcripts 2 sets per university Extracurricular certificates (mini projects, paper presentations, national

level papers published, international level, internships, work experience……etc,) (Xerox copies)

6.4 Uniti Foundation @ Transcripts

UNITI Foundation is affiliated to the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is a Satellite Center of the United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF).

UNITI Foundation is an organization which does the attestation of the transcripts which are accepted by almost all the universities.

But some sciences schools, they won’t accept this attestation, they ask for transcripts from the respective universities.

6.5 Applications

Some universities have supplemental forms, financial forms, recommendation forms, immunization forms & departmental forms; we have to tell the students that we take the prints out of these forms and guide them in filling it without any errors.

Generally, applications are of 2 types: Online and Paper Applications. Most of the universities have online application form with online payment. Some universities have online application but the payment would be through DD

(dollar draft). Some universities they are paper applications with DD, they don’t have online

applications. Generally applications have all the details of the student: education details,

parent’s details and we have to mention the details of recommendation provider and then we have to submit the form. After submitting the form you will get the payment page/confirmation page, you have to include this page in the packet

After filling online applications we have to fill all the supplemental forms, departmental forms, financial forms and recommendation forms and send it along with the packets.

Some students will ask you, whether the recommendation forms of the particular college is to be filled or not, student need not fill the college recommendation forms, we have an option in the online application form stating that “Attached with the packets” we can choose that option”.

We have to fill these forms and post it along the documents. And some universities even have particular financial forms (Affidavit of support &

bank statement) in their own format. We have to fill those forms and send it along with the Documents, if not again they will mail you the particular forms (PDF) and will ask to take print and fill the forms and fax them.

6.6 Score Reporting

After online submission you have to report your scores officially through ETS. ETS will charge you $20 for GRE/ university. You can do it online or can call

automated phone system and do the reporting. You have the numbers in the website.

ETS will charge you $17 for TOEFL score reporting for one university. To do score reporting you have to get the score cards or at least if you have the

registration number that is also fine.

6.7 Mailing Documents & Tracking

You have to post all the supporting documents including cover letter, supplemental forms, and confirmation page.

Once the student is done with the online applications and packets, they start getting mails from the university indicating the status of the students.

University give the user ID and password to login and check the Application status online. Most of the universities have online application status.

Universities which have paper applications do not have any user ID’s and passwords, so, to check the status, we can call up the university and check the status.

If the documents are complete then only they will forward the application to the particular department for review.

If say suppose any of the document is missing then the whole process will be under hold, until you send that missing document. After sending the missing documents, your packet will be forwarded to the particular department for departmental review.

Some universities will again ask for official bank statement and affidavit of support in their particular format. Instead of sending the hard copies, we fill those financial forms and fax/scan them.

7.1 Fall Vs Spring

Students will be confused whether to go for spring or fall, then by looking at their profile you have to decide. Say if % is good and GRE, TOEFL scores are good, if it is a peak time then suggest them to go for next semester or else ask them to go for an average school and after going there can transfer to some other good university which suits there profile.

Say if the student’s % is less and scores are less & if it’s a peak time then also they can try, but it will be little bit risky for VISA, because they will receive your i20 very late and they don’t have time to prepare for visa interview. If you are well prepared with visa interview and if they are very confident enough about their profile then they can make it.

7.2 Job Vs Masters

If the student want to change their branch from ECE / EEE to any other like CS/MIS then work experience will definitely help them, and it will be easy at the time of VISA as well.

If a student is from B.Tech and wants to do MBA in some other branch then for their profile work experience it is a must but a few universities accept them without work experience also.

Suggest student to do masters first and then later on any way they will be working. Students who are ambitious about masters will only get back.

Work experience will help you in getting campus jobs/assistantships but it will not help you in getting an admission and after masters also it will help in getting a job quite easily.

9. General Suggestions

8.1 Comments on students list of universities:

If the student has any idea about universities ask him to mention the list in the profile sheet. Post some comments on the students list and try to see if the universities list matches his profile the lock the universities.

Say if the profile is 65%/2-3 backlogs/1050/85/CS Students list

Oklahoma state university – risky, high B.Tech Wichita state university – exact match University of Houston, clear lake – match California state university, Sacramento – requires 4-1 mark sheets University of New Havens – VS, can try to better universities

One good word will make the student feel good. Oklahoma state university is risky for your profile , University of New Havens is very safe you can try better universities, in the same

way try to give feedback about all the universities. If you think that the particular university doesn’t have the major which the student

has mentioned, tell them this major is not available they will feel good. If the student says “No” I have browsed the website I know that this major is

available. Ask them if they have checked for graduate application/undergraduate application. If they still say “N0” counselor has to recheck.

9.1 Importance Of Student Profile sheet

GRE Split

Counselor has to check whether the student has filled GRE split, because if the student fills the break scores then only based on that, university selection team can help them in guiding in a better way.

Some schools are very specific about quant’s and verbal split scores. Few schools will check the verbal score as (verbal + (AWA * 100)) = 550.

Based on quant’s and verbal scores a few schools provide fee waivers, assistantships. For example: Cleveland state university: requires quant score 740

Lamar University: Quant’s 700 – will get funding. CSU Northridge: requires verbal score 400

University of Missouri Rolla - AWA 4.5 TOEFL splits

Ask the student to fill even TOEFL breakup score, because some universities have specific requirements. For example: St Cloud state university – T17 in each section George mason university – T22 in each section

Some pharmacy colleges they ask T22 in every section.

Number of universities

Mention the number of universities that a student is planning, because if a counselor mentions it, then it will be easy for the university selection team to suggest the universities and also mention the split as (Risky+ Moderate+ Safe)

Even mention the universities which a student is planning to apply.

9.2 Low Profile

Check the profile, whether they have completed Both GRE & TOEFL. If they have the GRE score, take the breakup score; ask for the TOEFL expected

score. Look at the profile whether, the percentage is good, and if they have less number of backlogs. If the GRE score is very less ask them to retake the exam or else if the student does not wish to retake GRE then ask them to plan for some safe

schools. In the future if the student is willing to retake GRE then based on it ask him to plan for some more schools.

I. If % is less, GRE & TOEFL are low,Ex: 55% / backlogs, 860 / 69

Look at the profile, ask them to retake both the exams because academic profile is very less, so at least if you can improve your GRE and TOEFL then there will be some better chances of getting into a good schools and better for VISA as well, because if you go with the same profile for VISA, VISA officer will question you why less percentage and more no of backlogs, GRE/ TOEFL less; he will think that you will not be able to complete technical subjects.

At least if your GRE / TOEFL score’s are good you can say something during the VISA interview.

Ask the student whether he’s planning to retake TOEFL, suggest him to retake because all most all colleges will accept 79+ TOEFL score, only some schools accept 65 score and they give you conditional I20 i.e. IEP. Going to visa with conditional I20 will be a problem.

Already if the student has retaken TOEFL and the second score is also the same then ask him to take IELTS exam, then the student will ask you, will all schools accept IELTS score, say yes all most all schools will accept but most of them they ask for 6.5 score.

Pattern of both will be the same; the only difference is levels of TOEFL are high when compared to IELTS.

Give university list based on %, Backlogs, TOEFL, GRE scores.

III. If % less, GRE & TOEFL scores are good.Ex: 60% / 5 backlogs, 1120 / 85 / 6.5

Give the university list based on %, GRE and TOEFL scores, Backlogs. Take the break up score, if they have 750 + in quant’s; look for schools which give

funding based on quant’s score Some students may ask you about funding, so for this profile, we can look out for

schools based on quant’s scores, but for above mentioned profiles (i) , (ii) chances of funding will be very less.

IV. If % is less, TOEFL is goodEx: 60 – 62% / 2/3 backlogs, 95 TOEFL

Some students want to go only on TOEFL based schools, mostly say that you can go with TOEFL based university, but at the time of VISA it will be problem, whether the college requires GRE score or not it does not matter for visa officer without GRE.

They want GRE score if you haven’t taken it, the VISA officer will think that this guy is not very serious about masters. Probably sometimes if the profile is good he may give the VISA, but most of the times he asks for GRE score, so its better if you take GRE at least before attending VISA.

Give them TOEFL Based Universities. Explain all the documents, the packages, kits and tools to be collected.

9.3 Moderate Profile

If their academic profile is good Ex: 65% - 70% backlogs 2-4

GRE, TOEFL scores are good Ex: 1050 – 1150, 80 – 90+

i. If % is good , GRE is Good, TOEFL yet to take Ex: 65% / 1080 / 80+ Ask the TOEFL expected score, and give the university list based on funding, major

and if he stands any chance of getting funds, suggest some universities on that. Give some university’s based on percentage and some on GRE & TOEFL. Funding depends on the time you apply as well because it is based on “First Come

First Serve” basis say if for fall semester you have to start the process somewhere around November / December and for spring semester July / August.

ii. If % is good, GRE is low, TOEFL is good Ex: 68% / 960 / 101 Look at the profile and ask if whether they are planning to retake GRE if so, get the

expected score and suggest when to take the exam and when to start the process. Ask how many schools they are planning, say if 6 universities ask them to apply for 2

schools now with present GRE and if they’re expecting good score, they can apply for 4 schools with the new GRE score.

Some of them will be working, so for them it is impossible to retake GRE, so for them give university list based on percentage, TOEFL, GRE, and work experience.

Some students may want to change their major from one to another. It is mostly risky for low profile and moderate profile students, if they want to do so, for example if the student is from EEE ask him to apply to the same major EE which will be easy for VISA and later on after going there you can slide your branch.

If the student is confident about his profile and can manage at visa interview then ask him to apply.

But, say, if you have work experience, it will help you a lot. You can change your branch if you have related work exp.

At the same time, try to lock/Eliminate 2/3 universities from the Students List.

Students with good Profile know everything like, process flow; required documents etc still ask them if they require any Counseling regarding the same.

Generally Students with Moderate profiles have half-knowledge. So Counsel them about everything.

After, all the Counseling session ask the student when they are Planning to Start the Process and within how many days and if they are very serious and want to know some technical information about deadlines, final list, and then make them to speak with lead Counselor.

Give information / comments about the universities which they have already applied for and then suggest universities which are better for their profile, if they are ready to apply. Then, suggest them to apply for 2/3 not more than that.

Give some information about i20fever, how are we different, how the process goes on over here and about the “Transparent Process” most importantly.

d. Generally counseling, have not taken GRE/ TOEFL

If they are not done with the exams then most importantly talk about training @ i20fever and free BMT classes which are going on.

Some student don’t know anything regarding GRE & TOEFL, then in that case explain the pattern of exam, fees structure and how to block dates etc. and then talk about training, BMT (non math’s students especially will learn a lot) classes.

If they are done at least with one exam, ask when they are planning to take other exam and based on the expected score suggest some university list. Explain tools and kits and the process flow @ I20fever.

e. Moderate profiles with half knowledge.

Profile evaluation (ask if the student has some idea about universities – if the students suggested list is ok, give some comments on the universities). And if the students suggested list is ok then suggest some universities from the same or else if the universities are way out from the list, then counselor should give some suitable universities for his profile.

Generally, for students who can’t come personally to do the processing then we can be regularly in touch with the students and get the process done (i.e. E-Services) or else for some students their parents will come on their behalf and do the process.

i. Reference of senior/our alumni, decent profile

if the profile is good then talk less about the profile and university, talk about services and tools of i20fever, because some students will do the research work about the university from the information given by seniors / friends they know everything so better talk less, if the counselor says something wrong then the student might think that she/he does not know (information) what I (student) know.

If it is a good profile, the counselor should take the student to speak with the Lead counselor.

j. Non local, visiting exclusively for processing

If the profile is very good, then if possible allow him to talk to Naveen sir so that he can get a lot of information or focus group meeting if they are 3 – 4 members.

Anyway for these kinds of profiles you need not talk much about university .you can however concentrate on explaining services, process etc.

If the student is ready with all the documents and finalized list, make him to apply on the same day.

14. Counseling Majors

13.1 15 Year Profile

B.Com, B.Sc, B.A etc these are 15 year profiles Most of the schools ask for 16 years of education, some schools even accept

15years +1 year bridge course. It’s better if you take bridge course in India so that you need not take any pre –

requisites, bridge course is nothing but taking 1 year diploma course/ any certified course related to your branch.

If you want to do Pre - MS or Pre - MBA there, it will be very expensive Most of the colleges ask for 1 - 2 years of work experience. All top colleges ask for GMAT score + 2 - 3 years of work experience, only some

schools accept without work experience, But your GMAT score, recommendation letters, SOP’s should be very good.

Only some schools accept 15years + GRE score, we have to verify whether they accept 15 years before applying to the university.

13.2 M.sc/MBA Profile

For Ex: GRE - 950 / TOEFL - 80 Academics -80%, Then if the student is planning PhD suggest him to go for masters rather than PhD. Because PhD requires good GRE/TOEFL scores and work experience in that

particular field, publications and research work. Proofing is to be done before applying to the universities for PhD.

They require very good SOP and essay.

13.3 MBA Without Experience

If you prefer MBA in particular then one must have GMAT score, only some Colleges accept students without experience, but they need to have good GMAT

score. If you prefer any program related to management then you can even opt for

MIS/EM/ International Business, they accept GRE score as well and you can apply without work experience also.

MBA is very expensive.

13.4 Engineering Management

Engineering Management is a course which can be given as a backup major and is well suited for students who have more number of backlogs.

This course is suited for students who want to take up some core and some management subjects.

13.5 Master of Technology / Master of Engineering

This is a generic course, which has combinational subjects. This course does not have in depth technical subjects. This course is suited for students who want to take up some easy subjects.

13.6 MIS For Fresher’s With GRE

MIS is very expensive & requires good GRE, TOEFL & percentage. MIS is a program for people who wish to do masters in management along with

computers/ Information systems. MIS is mostly available in top universities. If you have good projects, paper publications and statement of purpose there will

be more weight age. A few schools accept fresher students, but they require good profile. MIS is very competitive.

13.7 PhD

If you’re applying to PhD program, firstly, you need to do proofing to the chair person / DEAN of the department.

Proofing is nothing but mailing students complete profile including work experience, research work, any publications and curriculum to the dean of the department of that college. And he will do the proofing of your profile and then if

he likes your profile, he recommends you to the admission department. Once you get reply from the dean saying you can apply then you can start off the application process. (I.e. online application, mailing documents, & GRE & TOEFL score reporting).

For PhD’s generally there will not be any deadline, until you have vacancies for PhD positions you can apply.

Generally only limited number of positions will be available in the department and there will be lot of competition.

They need to have good GRE, TOEFL and Academics if not you will not be having chance to apply.

Some universities they not require proofing for PhD, you can directly to PhD without proofing.

For some top university’s they even ask for subject GRE, work experience and research work.

For some top schools they even ask for essays apart from the SOP’s Usually, they get admit with assistance ships like RA, GA, & TA -if you have work

experience and research work additionally it will be easier to get assistantship.

13.8 Integrated PhD(IPHD)

I PhD is a course for people who are planning to do MS+PHD at the same time and this program is available only in some top colleges.

It is very expensive and it is not that easy to get into I PhD. They require good Bachelor’s Percentage, GRE, TOEFL scores & Projects. Proofing is to be done before applying online to the universities. Some universities they do not require proofing.

13.9 Doctors

Generally MBBS students apply for MPH (masters in public health), Allied health, Toxicology, masters in health care administration, sports medicine, Hospital Administration, molecular biology, physical biology etc .

Bachelor’s percentage & work internship is a major factor for admission into universities.

They require good GRE score and most of the students manage to get funding/financial aid.

13.10 B-Pharmacy

They have Different majors like pharmacology, pharmaceutics, general chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry.

Pharmacology, pharmaceutics – these branches require more GRE & TOEFL scores apart from that some top colleges even look for work experience, publications and research work.

Getting admission in General chemistry, Analytical Chemistry is little bit easy when compared to other majors.

A few universities accept less GRE & TOEFL scores. If the GRE score is very less and the student does not want to retake GRE then ask

to him to do WES / Credential Evaluation, so that they can try some good universities which concentrate more on courses rather than GRE score.

Having good projects, paper publications will help you in getting into better universities and the chances of funding are good.

Having a better % in pharmacy will also help you in the long run.

13.11 Bio-Tech

Bio – Tech is a major which is a combination of both sciences & Engineering. Can do master’s in Bio – Tech, Bio – informatics, Bio – medical engineering, cell &

molecular biology Environmental sciences, micro biology and genetics. Getting admission in Biotech is little bit tuff and that requires good Scores and

Percentage. If the student wants to apply only biotech then tell them to apply 1-2universities

for biotech and then remaining some other majors and can try some universities in PSM in Biotech or Biology with Emphasis in Bio tech.

We can try for combination with biotech or else its better ask them to do WES / Credentials Evaluated.

If the student is from 15 years of education, for them Masters in biotech is very tuff, because only some universities accept 15 years. So for them there will not be any option in selection of universities, they have to apply to universities which are available.

If they have already done PG Diploma in any of the related courses they can try some universities.

It takes lot of processing time for sciences students so if they want to try better universities and if they are planning for early visa then ask them to apply at least 6-8 months before.

13.12 Secret Recipe

Generally Majors like EE and CS are very Competitive, so instead of that if you apply for these majors admission will be easy.

15. Handling Student issues

14.1 Head Ache Students

Give information about whatever they ask for, the documents required and if they have any queries, clarify them, and further if they ask for university deadlines fees structure and the other things then ask them to join as student number, in order to get the whole information.

Be patience with these kind of students because they try to grab the whole information, if you think that the student is positive and willing to join then it’s ok, or else straight away ask them to join as a student member we will be happy to help you.

14.2 Handling Second Time Walk –in!

If the student is coming for second time that means he was not satisfied with the Initial counseling/he wants some more technical information. See if the student is a deserving candidate/ if you (counselor) think that, if given this (particular) information, student will join definitely, you can give the information or else hold. If he wants more information beyond that, ask him to register first, then you will get the final list of universities and whatever information he wants.

14.3 Assured Admission!!

14.4 Same Day Application

If a student came for initial counseling and joined immediately and says, that I want to complete my applications on the same day, then tell him/her that we follow a system called application slots. We have 10-15 slots a day and it is pre-booked (2-3days before). So see if the student is a located in and around Hyderabad, then ask him/her to apply next day to 2-3 universities.

If the student is a deserving candidate with good profile and if the university deadlines are approaching/nearby, then try to make him/her apply to the universities.

If the student is a Non-local and want to apply on the same day, then ask him to get the credit card details and recommendations details to start the online applications.

If the student is a Non-local and want the final list of Universities, suggest them the final list of universities, some of them want to work out about the universities and then want to apply. So once they are finalized about the universities ask them to call and book the slot for online applications and then you can come down for one day and complete the whole process.

13.5 Credit Card Factor

After registering, mention clearly that at the time of online applications, you have to get credit card details and Recommendation Letter details for sure.

If the student says that I don’t have credit card! Can you provide that facility? Say diplomatically “No”- in the sense that we use our credit card daily so the amount will always be full, so you have to get credit card details.

If the student has tried and still unable to get credit card details and if he is a deserving candidate then think and give, credit card details.

If the student is using our credit card details, then the student has to prepay the amount 2-3days before online applications. Take the Round off amount and after the online applications, if the amount used is less than the amount paid then return the balance amount.

Note: Inform Students, In future if there is any problem with credit card like payment declined or any issues, i20fever will not be responsible.

13.6 Cancellation policies / Refund

Amount will not be refunded, once the Student is registered with i20fever. If there is any genuine reason then you can take permission and then refund the amount.

If the student is registered for a semester and want to apply to the next semester you can transfer them to the next semester, which is not a problem.

13.7 Differing i20

Say if the Student has applied to a University for Fall/Spring Semester and gone for Visa and his Visa has been rejected. If the student is serious about Masters and wants Visa for the same University for the Next semester he/she has to defer the I20.

In order to defer I20, You have to mail to the University Admissions Department Saying, My Full name is so and so and my application Id number is so and so and have applied for Fall/Spring Semester and want to defer my I20, due to some financial problem/my Visa has been rejected. So, I am unable to attend the Orientation class, So I request you to defer my I20 for the next Semester.

If they don’t respond to the mail, you can call up the university and give the whole information, they will defer the I20.

Some Universities charge to defer the I20. To defer the I20, some universities ask to send the I20 back along with the latest bank statement to send the new I20 and some universities don’t ask the old I20, they will directly send the New I20.

16. WES Evaluation

15.1 World Education Service

WES evaluation converts percentage in to GPA (grand point average) which is on a scale of 4.0

It has a fee of $160, additionally $20 for each university. We have different types of evaluation services WES, CED (Centre for Education

Documentation). Have to send 1 set of transcripts to WES along with the signature page. If you don’t

send the signature page. They won’t do the evaluation. After evaluation, WES will send 1 copy (GPA Statement), to us and others to the

reported universities. Wes evaluation will help a lot for pharmacy students, most of the pharmacy

colleges ask for WES, because they want to know how strong are they with there course work because the course curriculum will be different all over the country, so it helps them in a better way.

They will do the evaluation course by course and give the grades individually for each subject, so that it will be easy for the university.

By looking at the evaluation report they give some pre-requisites or waive them Only some colleges ask WES evaluation.

Generally most of the parents they come for the financial counseling, tell them all the expenses starting from applications until i20, if parents ask for VISA also then give even those details.

18. VISA Processing

17.1 VISA

Visa is a document issued by a country, giving an individual permission to formally request entrance in to the country during a given period of time and it is usually stamped or glued inside a passport.

Student visa (F-1) is a non immigrant visa. Every non immigrant visa applicant has to appear for a visa in review at the nearest United States consulate office.

17.2 Eligibility Criteria for VISA

Every F-1 visa applicant must complete his/her previous academic course before applying for a visa.

Every applicant should have the admission letter and form I-20 from a US University.

Applicant can apply for a slot for the Visa interview with in “120” days before the day of class commencement.

After getting a visa, the applicant can enter USA within 30 days before the day of class commencement.

17.3 Visa Life Cycle

Visa applicant has to start the process at least one month before. Firstly, applicants have to pay VFS Fee at HDFC Bank which is for $131+381/- service charge.

Barcode is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. And can be used only once. If you want to post-pone or pre-pone your date you can do it once. We have 6 designated HDFC Branches in Hyderabad; we have to pay VFS fees only

in these five branches. Lakdikapool, Chaitanyapuri Kukatpally Begumpet and Jublihills Gachibowli

Applicant must carry passport Xerox copy to pay VFS fees. After paying VFS Fees you will be given a barcode that will be activated after 48 hrs or 2 working days and that barcode must be used to schedule an appointment with in one year from the date of issue.

17.4 DS Forms & VISA Slots

Once if the barcode is activated, you can start-off filling the DS forms 156, 157,158. These forms are filled to book a slot for visa interview.

While filling the forms you need i20, passport and vfs fees receipt. You can always make changes in the DS forms, be it the university details or any

other information till 3 working days prior to your scheduled appointment. Carry the hard copies of DS Forms to the visa consulate. In DS 156 form first 13 blanks are to be filled carefully because once if you fill &

block date you can’t make Changes. If any mistake has been made in the DS forms and we cannot change the details

in the forms but at the visa consulate, we have a counter called correction counter; we can go there and make changes.

DS 156 form is to be printed back to back.

17.5 VISA Slot

Documents needed to book a slot are I-20 (Admission letter) from US University. HDFC Bank Receipts with barcode Pass port.

We have 2 types of visa slots Normal slots: One can attend visa interview any number of times using

normal slots. Emergency slot: One can attend visa interview only twice in 6 months and

to book an emergency slot for the visa interview, a student can apply within 120days before the day of class commencement.

17.6 SEVIS Fee

SEVIS – Student & Exchange Visitor Information System. The SEVIS -901 fees or FMJ fee is used to support the program office and the

automated system that keeps track of students and exchange visitors and ensures that they maintain their status while in the United States.

Each student or exchange visitors issue an initial from of i20 or DS -2019 is responsible for paying this fee to SEVP: student exchange visitors program.

This fee can be paid before attending VISA interviews at US consulate. If applicant wishes to change the university after paying the SEVIS fees, then you

can transfer the SEVIS fees with in 24 hrs to some other university which he wishes for.

SEVIS fee is $200; this fee can be paid using website www. Fmifee.com This fee is paid in order to maintain and track the student status.

After paying the fees you have to take the print out and carry to visa interview. This fee can be paid using credit card.

17.7 Financial Documents

A. Annual Income

We can show different types of incomes, Employee Business Agriculture Rental income Fixed Deposits Income Additional sponsor

Employee and Business incomes are the primary income sources. Agriculture, Rental Income and Fixed deposit Income are Supporting income

sources. If the applicants’ parents are employees then they have to get employment

letters from their respective companies, factories, organizations, explaining Role/ designation – salary certificate Form(Saral) 16 – IT statement Salary slip – latest month In the case rental income, you can show rental agreement deed. If you’re showing business then you should provide supporting

documents IT returns – form 2D and if you have balance sheets and business license then you have show the required documents.

If you’re showing agriculture income then you should show the income depending on the college fees and they have to produce agriculture income certificate given by a local MRO, and if possible try to get the sale receipts/ lease agreement if, they have been given for lease.

If incase primary income is less, then we can go for an additional sponsor, show all the necessary documents and apart from that you have to take an affidavit of sponsors on 20/- bond paper.

Additional sponsor can be anyone; it need not be your blood relations.

If you’re showing fixed deposit income then you can show your pass book or can get one statement from the bank.

B. Savings

These are the different types of savings. Savings from multiple sources is always a plus. Bank Balance, Fixed Deposits, Provident Funds and Postal Fixed Deposits are the

primary savings. Should maintain at least 10-11 lakhs from primary savings. And the remaining savings are supporting savings.

Mutual funds, can show bond papers Shares have to get DMAT account summary through online. LIC, have to get surrender value certificate from LIC. Gold, visa officers won’t consider it to be as liquid cash, so if you want to show

gold then show around 2 lakhs not more than that. If your gold is in bank locker then you can get gold evaluation certificate from

bank or else can get from registered gold shops. If you want to show chit funds, you can but it should be a registered chit fund.

C. Education Loan

Loan can be sanctioned (provisionally) up to the requirement of the college Fees. Without i20 loan process cannot be started. Maximum loan amount is 20 lakhs; they will sanction up to 85% i.e. 17-18 lakhs. If you want 20 lakhs to be sanctioned then you have to mortgage your property,

income documents, i20 and B.Tech mark sheets. With out property mortgage, if you want to get loan on income then the bank

people will sanction 7.5 lakhs.

Generally students think that loan is not necessary, but would always help. Loan could always be a plus.

D. Property /Fixed Assets

Photo copies of property registration papers will be sufficient. You can any property like residential house, flat, apartment, plots, agriculture. You can show 1 house and 1 plot, worth of 70-80 lakhs that would be fine. Property documents are rarely checked, if you don’t have any properties then you

can go with fake documents also. If you’re showing Agriculture land as property then that property can be

evaluated by local MRO, he will give you a land evaluation certificate.

17.8 CA Statement

CA is a charted accountant; all the documents are evaluated and certified by CA CA gives a summary of all the financial documents VISA officer checks only CA statement. CA statement is provided by a registered CA after verifying all the supporting

documents like University I20/funding support letters parents employment documents Bank statement & other savings CE report

17.9 CE Statement

Charted engineer is a person who evaluates all the property documents and estimates the existing price of the property, which can be land, open plots, flats, apartments & residential house.

17.12 Blue and Pink Forms

Blue slip is nothing but if the student’s visa is rejected then the visa officer will give a blue slip specifying the reason for rejection.

Pink slip is nothing but, further if the visa office requires more information about the student and the documents then pink slip will be issued. Generally it takes one month to one and a half month to issue visa after pink slip is given. We have to send specified documents which they ask for.

For these files you should maintain a proper record and store them with a proper file name which should be understandable.
