Beginning Freshman Admissions:

Pilot ProgramsDevelopmental Math and English

The Louisiana Board of Regents extended the developmental education co-requisite pilot at regional universities. Students who have an ACT sub-score in Math of 17-18 are allowed to be admitted to Southeastern for the Fall 2014 semester if they agree to participate in the Math Pilot Program. Students who have an ACT sub-score of 16-17 are allowed to be admitted to Southeastern for the Fall 2014 semester if they agree to participate in the English Pilot Program. This program is designed for students to be able to complete both the developmental and college-level course in the same semester. Students will be enrolled in a 6 credit hour course and upon successful completion they will receive a passing score in both courses. Students will take a diagnostic test at the beginning and end of the pilot to assess growth. Students are not allowed to be admitted to both the Math and English Pilot Programs.

Students who do not meet Southeastern’s admissions requirements now have the opportunity to enroll and receive a seamless and supportive transfer to Southeastern. Students who enroll in the “Connect to Success” Program at NTCC will have the opportunity to take courses on Southeastern’s main campus as well as at Southeastern’s St. Tammany Center in Mandeville (on Koop Drive). Students will also receive access to student services at Southeastern such as Textbook Rental, Computer Labs, Health Center, Counseling Center and much more. Once a student has completed the necessary transfer requirements, he/she will have a seamless transfer to Southeastern.

The “Connect to Success” Program has open admissions and offers up to 60 credit hours of transferable college-level coursework in addition to any developmental education courses in Math and English. Students in the “Connect to Success” Program can choose from the following transferable courses:

Beginning Freshman Scholarship:

Any beginning freshman student admitted with a 23 or higher ACT and a minimum 3.0 high school grade point (on a 4.0 scale) average qualifies for a scholarship at Southeastern.

Housing supplement only available to students living on campus.

All scholarships are awarded for eight semesters.

College ofArts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Southeastern’s New Media and Animation program has been recognized by Animation Career Review as one of the top programs in the South. Initiated only a few years ago in the university’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the program was ranked 20th by the web site.

Southeastern now offers a 100% online degree program for those students that qualify in Organizational Leadership. The focus of the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Disaster Relief Management is to train people to recognize existing and potential areas of disaster and to plan and execute relief strategies.

The Southeastern Channel wins a 2013 national Telly Award for “Northshore Gems”. The episode featuring the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum and the Tickfaw State Park was honored with the Telly in the travel show category. This was the 34th Telly Award won by the Southeastern Channel in its 10 years of existence.

Southeastern’s Business Center recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. This center is able to bring together elements of the university, the private sector and government and economic development agencies in a coordination of efforts designed to facilitate economic development in the five-parish region comprised of Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany and Washington parishes. This center has aided 5,793 clients, assisted 256 businesses in their start-ups, helped create more than 2,800 jobs, and worked with clients to secure more than $342 million in capitalization funds.

Most students attending college carry part-time jobs while running to and from class, but few must answer to 6,000 “bosses” while doing so. Michael Wright of LaPlace who, at the age of 22, serves on the St. John the Baptist Parish Council, the youngest person in parish history to serve on the government body. A 2012 Southeastern management graduate, he is preparing to enter the university’s MBA program.

Southeastern’s College of Business created The Latin American Business and Development Initiative (LABDI) to address and support cultural diversity and business relations among Latin American and Caribbean community and the Hispanic population in the United States as a foundation of permanent out-going dialogue and sustainable business development.

Southeastern’s Department of Teaching and Learning hosts an annual STAR (Students Teaching and Researching) Shadow Day. This annual event invites students registered in the STAR education courses at area high schools to experience college as an education major for a day, and earn course credit at the same time.

Southeatern’s James Kirylo, associate professor of teaching and learning, has released a new book profiling prominent educators and other leaders and activists involved in the political nature of education and policies that affect civil society.

Teacher candidates are gaining experience teaching in a virtual classroom before having to experience the real thing, gaining the opportunity to practice what can sometimes be a daunting exercise. Southeastern is one of a handful of institutions nationwide to tout the innovative program designed to help grow our future educators.

A group of senior Southeastern nursing students is launching a community education program on risks associated with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The program is part of a national safe sleep campaign that is promoting the ABC’s of safe sleep.

Southeastern’s consortium master’s degree in nursing, which offered in a consortium, has been recognized as one of the best graduate nursing programs in the United States for 2013-2014. The program offers concentrations leading to a master of science degree in four different areas: family nurse practitioner, family psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner, nurse executive, and nurse educator.

Southeastern student Angelle Burt is making inroads into fashion industry. Angelle took a major step into the business when she participated in New Orleans’ Fashion Week, an event where local designers and boutiques can showcase their work.

Southeastern offers the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic which offers a full range of speech, language, and hearing services. Undergraduate and Graduate students working towards their degree in Speech/Language Pathology and Communication Sciences and Disorders practice hearing and speech screening, evaluation and clinical procedures in working with speech handicaps, administration of diagnostic test, and writing lesson plans for individuals and groups.

The Accelerated Computing Engagement (ACE) Program offers students a pathway to completing their Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree in three years. This degree program usually takes four years to complete and it is ABET accredited.

Pre-engineering students can participate in a dual degree program; upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering, students will also receive the Bachelor of Science in Physics or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Southeastern.

Southeastern has the largest Computer Science program in the state with most of our undergraduate students developing software.

Southeastern is the only Institution in the state of have and Engineering Technology program. This degree program was driven by industry and most Engineering Technology students can receive paid internships with companies for about $15.00 an hour.

Pre – Med students can become a part of a group called Delta Omega Alpha a mentoring and tutoring group. This organization brings in Deans from Health Science schools in Louisiana, so our students can build relationships and ask questions. We also have a Medical Evaluation Committee that meets regularly with students who are interested in the Medical Field.

Most Chemistry majors can become Doctors, Pharmacist and Lawyers. Most students in the Chemistry field go to graduate school for free, all of them do graduate research and most of them will also receive a stipend.

The Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station collaborates with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.

High School Special Admission Programs:Southeastern Scholars Gifted & Talented Early Admissions

Southeastern Scholars Program • Gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. • Provides tuition assistance for up to 6 hours per semester. • Students can enter the program as early as their freshman year of high school. • Limits students to 19 hour per semester. • Requirements

-3.0 or higher cumulative high school grade point average -24 or higher composite ACT score -Approval of high school principal

Gifted and Talented Program • Gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. • Students are responsible for all tuition and fees associated with enrolled courses. • Students can enter the program as early as their freshman year of high school. • Limits students to 6 hour per semester. • Requirements

-3.0 or higher cumulative high school grade point average -Meet one of the following: 1-22 or 23 composite ACT score 2-Standardized tests showing results in the 95th percentile or higher 3-Standardized tests showing grade placement at the 12th grade level -Approval of high school principal

Important Notes • Students applying for any of these special programs must complete both the application for

admission and the specific program form. In addition, they must turn in the appropriate application fee, immunization records, and ACT scores.

• Students in any of these programs DO NOT have to reapply for admission to become a beginning freshman unless they have not attended classes in one full year.

• Although the Southeastern Scholar Program does provide a tuition waiver, it does not cover the full cost of taking the courses. Students are responsible for paying any fees not covered by the waiver.

Transfer Admission Criteria:

Transfer Students with less than 18 hours of college credit (excluding developmental courses): To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, transfer students with less than 18 hours college credit earned must meet the following criteria:

§ Have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on all college work. AND § Meet the same criteria for beginning freshman as listed above.

Transfer Students with 18 or more hours of college credit (excluding developmental courses): To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, transfer students with more than 18 or more hours of college credit earned must meet the following criteria:

§ Have a transferable Associates degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average

OR § Have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on all college work. AND § Must have completed a college level English and Math.

AND § Be eligible to return to the last college or university attended.

Note: Students who do not meet one or more of these criteria MAY be admissible through an alternative path. Submit application materials and then contact an admissions counselor to discuss other possible options. International Students: To be eligible for admission to Southeastern, international students for whom English is a second language are required to demonstrate English proficiency by submitting a minimum required TOEFL score of 500. Additionally, freshman international students must have completed a recognized secondary program comparable to U.S. high school graduation, and have academic records comparable to those required for the freshman admission criteria. Admission decisions for freshman international students are made in accordance with recommendations in nationally recognizes publications. Transfer international students must have completed a recognized secondary program and meet transfer admissions criteria.

Additional Documentation: Beginning Freshman and Transfer students with fewer than 18 hours earned:

§ For beginning freshman applicants and transfer applicants with fewer than 18 hours earned who graduated from Louisiana high schools in 2004 or later, we will request your seven semester and/or final high school transcripts from the Board of Regents and the Louisiana Department of Education’s Student Transcript System. It will not be necessary to have transcripts sent to Southeastern from your high school unless you graduated before 2004.

§ If you took the G.E.D., a copy of your scores or your diploma must accompany

your application. § Students who graduated from a state-approved home study program should

submit a copy of their home-school transcript if available. § ACT scores are a requirement for admissions and are used for placement in

English and Math. If you have not taken the ACT, you need to register for the next available test date and have your scores sent to Southeastern Louisiana University – college code (1608).

Transfer Applicants:

§ All transfer applicants, including those with fewer than 18 hours earned, must provide official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities.

Southeastern Scholars:

§ Southeastern offers early entry options and scholarship opportunities for high school students with an ACT composite score of 24 or higher. An additional form is required for these programs and may be obtained from the Admissions Office. *Additional minimum criteria may be implemented.

All Applicants: § All applicants must complete and submit the Proof of Immunization form to the

University Health Center before full admission to the University can be granted.

Definitions: Developmental Courses Defined

§ Students earning an ACT Math component score of 18 or below will need Developmental Math.

§ Students earning an ACT English component score of 17 or below will need Developmental English.

Pilot Program

§ Students earning an ACT Math component score of 17 or 18 may participate in Southeastern’s Math Pilot Program. This is a 6 credit hour course consisting of Math 92 and 155 combined (Math 161A). Upon successful completion on Math 161A, students will receive credit for Math 92 and Math 155.
