1 WESTERN SYDNEY LIGHT RAIL PROJECT - TRANSPORT NSW ANNOUNCEMENT

The Minister for Transport recently announced 4 Western Sydney Corridors shortlisted for the Western Sydney Light Rail Project.

These are:

Parramatta to Macquarie Park via Carlingford;

Parramatta to Castle Hill via Old Northern Road;

Parramatta to Bankstown; and

Parramatta to Sydney Olympic Park and Strathfield/Burwood

The above 4 corridors will now be subject to detailed engineering, transport planning and customer analysis to establish which represents the best option for light rail in the region.

The City of Ryde has been actively engaged in the process and through its Manager Environment, Health and Building has been receiving briefings from Transport NSW via a technical officers group convened to help guide the process.

A further meeting of this group is scheduled on 13 November 2014 to discuss the announcement, why certain corridors were not shortlisted and to discuss the upcoming Western Sydney Light Rail Conference, Trade Show and Cocktail Function which is being planned by Parramatta City Council to take place on 28 November, 2014 at the Novotel Parramatta from 9.00am to 6.30pm.

The program for the Conference is being finalised and details should be confirmed shortly. A further Councillor Information Bulletin will be submitted once details are finalised.

More information about the study is available on the Transport for NSW website, by emailing

[email protected] or calling 1800 684 490. Map showing shortlisted

routes attached.

3 MEDIA LAUNCH OF PARRAMATTA RIVER SWIMMABLE CAMPAIGN - BY PARRAMATTA RIVER CATCHMENT GROUP

City of Ryde is a member Council of the Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG). A significant part of the river’s catchment area and foreshore is located within the Ryde LGA. The group is launching a new campaign to ‘Make the Parramatta River Swimmable Again by 2025’ with a proposed media launch on or about the 15 December 2014. Details of the launch can be found in the following link.

A PRCG scoping meeting will precede the launch and this is scheduled to take place at Ashfield Council’s Civic Centre on Thursday 20 November 2014 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. A report is also scheduled for Council before the end of the year detailing the work of this Group, its vision for the Parramatta River, further particulars for the upcoming media launch and a proposal seeking that 2 new Councillor delegates be nominated by Council to represent City of Ryde on the Group. Each member Council should be represented by at least 2 Councillor delegates and formerly, Councillors Petch (now suspended) and Yedelian were the elected delegates. The Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Scott Lloyd, is the current chair of the PRCG.

4 LAUNCH OF RYDE REMEMBERS POPPY PROJECT

On Tuesday, 11 November at West Ryde Library, the Mayor ,Councillor Bill Pickering will launch Ryde’s 2000 Poppies Project. The project involves members of the community crafting a red poppy (by knitting, crocheting, sewing, etc), which will then be dedicated to the many service men and women who enlisted in WWI. Locals will be able to come along to the launch between 10.00am and 1.00pm to pick up a poppy pattern, learn to create a poppy and commence crafting their contributions.

The Mayor will launch the project at 10.00am and all Councillors are welcome to attend. Residents will then be able to dedicate a pre-crafted poppy by filling out a card and making a gold coin donation. All proceeds will be donated to Legacy.

The project runs from November 2014 to April 2015 and will culminate in a mass remembrance display at the Ryde Civic Centre in April 2015.

6 LARDELLI PARK - SHADE SAIL CONSTRUCTION BY FRASERS PROPERTY

Frasers Property Australia Pty Ltd will install the shade sail at Lardelli Park. The works will be undertaken during the following period:

24 to 28 November 2014: Steel post install (approx. 3 days of works within this period)

8 to 12 December 2014: Shade installation (approx. 2 days of work within this period)

Whilst works are occurring, there will be no access to the play equipment within the zone of works. This will cause some minor inconvenience to the community with signage being erected at the park to advise users of the proposed works. Council’s Customer Service Centre will also be able to answer any queries on the duration of the works. The extension of the shade sail provides for improved sun protection for park users.
