    Newtown Middle School is proud to celebrate Council Rock Education Week from January 9th - 12th.Because we encourage the relationship between home and school, it is our pleasure to invite you toNewtown Middle School on the days and times listed below. This opportunity is intended to help youbecome more familiar with the teachers and programs of the school.

    Council Rock Education Week serves to more formally involve you in the exciting happenings that takeplace here daily. In addition, this will provide an excellent opportunity to both experience and betterunderstand our middle level program.

    The faculty of Newtown Elementary School would like you to join us in observing COUNCIL ROCK EDUCATION

    WEEK, January 912, 2012. Parents are always welcome visitors to our school, but we especially enjoy having you

    visit during Education Week. This week is set aside as a time to see your child's classroom in operation. There is no

    Council Rock Education Week will be celebrated across our elementary schools from January 9 through 12. We

    at Goodnoe hope you will be able to visit with us. On Monday, January 9th we have planned parent workshops.

    Descriptions of the workshops are included on the second page of this letter.

    Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, January 10-12, from 9:20 AM3:00 PM, are classroom visitation days andtimes. Teachers will be sending home invitations to you, with the classroom schedule of activities, to help you

    plan your visit. Below is the Goodnoe Schedule, at a glance, for Council Rock Education Week.

    Classroom visits to your childs teacher: January 10, 11, 12When you come into our school to join in our celebration of Council Rock Education Week, please comply with

    the following guidelines: Make day care arrangements for your other children who are not enrolled in

    a full day school program.

    Turn off all cell phones and paging devices as a courtesy to our childrenand teachers.

    Sign-in in the lobby and receive a visitor badge before proceeding to your childs classroom. Upon entering the classroom take a seat in the classroom in the designated area and do not disrupt

    instruction by engaging in conversation with students.

    Workshop Descriptions for Monday, January 9th

    HELPING YOUR CHILD COPE WITH BULLYINGMrs. Rothrock, School CounselorRoom B-6 at 9:30 AM

    This workshop will focus on identifying bullying. We will review different strategies that are taught in school,

    and how to support your child if he or she is involved in a bullying situation as a target, a bully, or a bystander.

    HOW TO HELP CHILDREN USE STUDY SKILLS EFFECTIVELY AT HOME AND AT SCHOOLMrs. Perry, Instructional Support Teacher

    This presentation will focus on the following discussion points: What are Study Skills? Why does any child need

    to learn study skills? What is the parents role in studying at home with their child?

    First in Math- Whats It All About?

    Parents will explore the electronic First in Math program to learn about its features in this interactive session.

    Participants will learn how this program is being used. Open to all Goodnoe parents!

    COMPREHENSION: How to Help Your Child Choose Appropriate Books to ReadMrs. Marshall, Literacy Specialist

    In this workshop you will learn why it is important for children to choose appropriately leveled books to readand how to help your children make good choices. You will also learn how to navigate the book leveling site to

    help you in making those choices. Finally, you will receive a list of book suggestions.
